OP has no right to a refund (or an exchange) since the dress is not faulty, if she is that tight on funds she should be more circumspect about spending £50 on a dress, maybe save for it like the rest of us have to.
Erm, I have also worked in retail, and if it's within a certain space of time, returns do not have to be on the grounds of it being faulty.0 -

Show me the law that states that - Distance selling regs give you 7 days to reject an item, a shops own policy may give you an exchange policy but as far as I'm aware there is nothing in the Sale of Goods Act that states you must.0 -

Yeah like the above poster what law is that then, the law of Valerie84?
Also with you working in retail it amazes me how you've basically written a post of exactly how not to complain!0 -

They do have to be faulty if there is no receipt. Most retail stores with a return policy for change of mind will only honour it with the original receipt, they are already doing more than they have to by law.0 -

OP - read the main site for full a spelt out guide of what you can expect and what you can't. just because some shops would refund doesn't mean that they have to. next time, try before you buy.
you can shout at customer services all you like, but you have no right here.:happyhear0 -
Once again, people not focussing on the main issue here.
As someone that actually shops in River Island regularly... i can give you my point of view.
I would suggesting e-mailing River Island on this address: customer.services@river-island.com and explaining to them what has happened and asking them if they will accept a bank statement as proof of purchase.
If i ever have any problems with River Island, i always go through e-mail and never in store as sometimes the staff like to act up and make things difficult.
Having said that, when e-mailing River Island, i never write e-mails demanding for anything to be done; i always ask politely and have been very successful.
In the meantime, try and find your receipt!0 -

Even if you've never worked with the public and just read things on here you'll find the reaction of the staff largely seems to be down to customer behaviour.0 -
Valerie, I have never worked in retail.
I am however willing to learn.
Please can you enlighten us on the details of this.
I really do sometimes wonder if people just say this to give an impression they know what they're talking about?
If not and they have actually worked in retail it's just an embarrassment to whoever employed them that they go on a forum and start posting like they have. Valerie for the sake of whoever employed you in retail, don't tell us who they were!0 -

Well said! There are enough rules, regulations and more importantly laws that retail staff have to abide to without people making up rights and passing them on as 'advice'.0
