Oh you poor things, what a dreadful thing to happen. Thank goodness they didn't get in.

Can you talk to the people in the overlooking properties - also dropping in the 'fact' that you often work from home during the day, just in case any there are colluders.

But your defences are obviously good so feel good about that and don't let it colour your birthday - hope you have a lovely day.

We think they got in over a tiny bit of fence under a big tree which isn't trellised (but it will be very soon!!) because we didn't think anyone would try and fight their way through the tree.

Trees aren't bad to get through really, though nature has certain plants which would stop anything. This thread has a discussion on some of them.

I favour things like brambles because you can arrange the branches in loops which will trap and retain legs that get in there. Since it is a living thing, there is no proving that it didn't grow like that. Certain roses are also good for that.
Hate to say it but I think we've been targeted by someone who knows someone close to home and was involved in the last burglary too....which is so gutting because if we're right and they know we work full time, it doesn't matter what security measures we put up, they're always going to be trying until (IF) we catch them.

Well, since you're not allowed to use claymores any more, you best bet is probably going to be cameras. They aren't all that cheap (depends on how you want to do it) but if you know your french doors are your weak spot, then that's probably going to be all you will need to cover.

Sorry to hear about the b*ggers who tried to get in - perhaps they were after a piece of birthday cake???

Have a fab day, enjoy the sunshine and have fun!

BTW - re The Jam - two thirds may be appearing but the mighty Weller isn't! That is what really swayed it for me.

Plus, (and I may be ashamed to say this, but I may just be reliving my very younger days.....) I have tickets to see Madness in the summer, so have spent out on that :D

Have a fab day hun x

    Thanks all.

I'm trying to forget it is my birthday to be honest.

The boiler has now packed up - though luckily we have British Gas boiler cover. Thank the Lord. But they can't get anyone here till tomorrow but I am sure we can manage till then, we'll we'll have to really!

Got to wait in today for man to come and advise about bolts for the door and police who say they will be here sometime before 6pm.

Am supposed to be going out for a curry tonight but really not sure if I want to now, I am in a terrible mood.

    We'll see.

Thanks for all the advice and good wishes, I appreciate it and love you all. :)

Be warned....this is a ramble and a half!

    Well it's been a while.

Feeling the need to get some thoughts/confessions/concerns/achievements (maybe!) down on e-paper so here we go.

Well check out the overdraft. Awseome huh? My authorised limit is £1500 and I reckon if I try really hard I should be able to hit that target by the weekend. :rotfl:

No joking matter really but if I didn't laugh I'd cry.

Something has happened to me of late and it doesn't matter how much I update my spreadsheet or how often I look at the bank balance online where the full horror of the overdraft is there to see in black & white, if I think of something I want/need, that's it, I'm going to get it.

After the latest incident (the attempted break in) something just snapped. This isn't a justification, this is simply how I feel by the way. We've had to shell out about £170 on a few extra security bits and it made me feel really sick and angry.

Being overdrawn is bad enough but you can kind of cope with it a bit better and you'll even go into your overdraft further for things that make you happy, improve your quality of life etc but having to find extra cash because of some little scrote just p***** you off. Well it has me anyway.

Something snapped and I just thought "I can't win financially, I just can't do it - life is always throwing a load of sh*t at you so why bother trying?"

Now it's not true to say I have given up completely because if I had I would be pennies away from my overdraft limit now an I would have applied for a credit card to go and spend tonnes of cash to make myself feel better. I would have gone with the BF tonight to the supermarket and thought nothing of buying a bottle of Chablis and drinking the lot.

I'm still conscious of the fact that I can't return to the place I was in November 2005 (light bulb moment!). No no no.

But, I just feel like the fight has gone out of me.

I can't see the point of scrimping every penny and having a boring life for months on end to make a bit of headway just for something sh1te to come along and screw it all up and set me back months.

I know I'm whining and I know there are people with worse debts than me - people with worse lives than me. And believe me I feel for them and I *still* have to thank my lucky stars. Right now though, to be honest, I just feel like moaning about my life! If that's OK!

I saw a post by Minnie Spender earlier, she said she missed the old stalwarts - myself, Moozie & Freebird were named. It made me feel a bit sad :( because I really want to be part of this community - but I can't offer anything at the moment. Or at least that is how it feels. I do pop on and contribute a little bit but my heart isn't in it because I'm doing really really badly.

I work with someone who has so much luck with money. I mean we're talking grants, finding money hidden away (purple notes here not just a few quid!) winning stuff...I'm really really jealous! When God was handing out the financial luck/savvy I tell you , I was off at the short legs and big ar5e queue. Some deal that was. A *bum* deal. Ho ho.

Well it's not true to say I don't get any luck......I found £1 in a trolley the other day, someone hadn't got their pound coin back when they deposited their trolley - I was ecstatic! :rotfl:

I'm probably glossing over any good things that have happened to me of late - cos I feel so down. There are people out there no doubt reading this with so much on their plates who might want to slap me, people with real issues to deal with. They would tell me that this is a temporary blip and that if I just get a hold of things, it'll be OK. I guess they would anyway.

But I've had so many "temporary blips" that you could string them together like a paper chain! I just have to face up to the fact I think, that I'm cr ap with money and probably always will be!

God I wish I'd gone & got that Chablis!!
