Consider the amount of celebraties in the past 20 yrs then consider out of that huge number the ones who's been diagnosed !? I think you'll find it's a minute figure in comparison. The fact that it makes the news - would surely indicate it's worthy of news... Because it's a figure in the limelight who's been struck by a horrible condition.
I still find your comments extremley naive, Ill thought and insensitive - it is your posts, that should be reported.
Id imagine it would be less than 0.5% and therefore statistically insignificant. Id say the amount diagnosed probably reflects regular life.
A few years back id have thought Charlie Sheen was just a toss pot, but I nowadays see a fella in crisis. My friend was on a massive high like that when I met them, what i didnt realise at the time is that this spells inevitable gloom when it ends. He claims not to be ill tho.0 -
Looking at some of the attitudes on here Im expecting some folk to get the ducking stools out, followed by a course of blood letting. If that doesnt work maybe they can do labotomy?0

Yes anyone who dosnt agree with you wants people with MH problems locked up and the key throne away :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
But you missed the point because the blind will not see what they dont want to, I have GAD and depression0 -
Don't think it's got anything to do with whether people are agreeing or not, it's the insensitive attitude that isn't needed.
I think this thread would be better closed since it isn't offering anything productive.0 -

Are you sure that you aint got any attention seeking tendancies? This thread isnt about you, while I wish you no harm I dont care about you in the slightest. You disagree with me, I've disregarded your opinion fair play. But you insist on babbling on. It wasnt solely directed at you in any case.
TDMMDI: can i close this thread down? Im quite willing too. Ive got some great advice. So at this stage of the game the thread has served its purpose, but its in petty mode now.0 -

Yes, its been re-branded !
- for a specific focus on your question see #41 in relation to current diagnosis claims by the media
- evidence based opinion forming, as a SUDS / alcohol issue is here there is of course much more research available unfortunately it pay~for~view.
If you put Bi Polar [ space ] manic depression in a search engine you will find enough infoDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Yes and hmmmm I suppose we all get like that sometimes, maybe not as bad for as long, but still.......0 -
It hasn't been re-branded at all. Due to further research into the illness, it has been discovered that suffers encounter many different issues & the term manic depression wasn't able to cover the complexity of the illness.
As I understand it BP I covers those individuals who experience manic highs more often than depressive cycles. Whereas BPII individuals tend to experience more depressive episodes & do not necessarily experience such high manic episodes. This is the basic way of understanding the illness, it is far more complex than this and new diagnostic tools are soon to be introduced.0 -

Bipolar is not just "ups and downs"'its extremely serious ..... Do you have auditory halluncations When your up ? Do you suffer with severe paranoia so much so you become agoraphobic ? Do you have suicidal tendencies- one week after feeling on top of the world.... Do you adamantly believe something one week only to question it the next - leaving a trail of confusion as to what is the illness and what is you.
Like I said it's not just ups and downs - I personally believe that the medical world should not class it as a "mood disorder" as again it's not just ones moods that change frequently it's their whole outlook.0
