Yes I dont think they should move to a flat. The suffer does not want to move to a flat regardless of my opinion, they suffer with a mood effective disorder not a learning difficulty. They need help and care not a decision maker.
I've been caring for this person for around 10years. However they/we did not know we were dealing with bipolar until January 11. They had a mixed anxiety depression diagnosis prior to this, and therefore were recieve wrong treatment (which aggrivates the condition). So anything regarding medication and housing prior to this was incorrect/illadvised. The person with Bipolar has a mental health social worker (it was meant to be a CPN, but the CPN cancelled the original appointment and the social worker was available to get the ball rolling with treatment).
For further clarification, the Social Worker agrees a house is a need and the Psychiatric Doctor does also. But the LA clearly dont respect thier proffesional judgement.
FAO sunnyone: you are not a CPN of PDOC so by your own definition you opinion is invalid, you invalidated it yourelf.
Thanks to those whom have made helpfull coments, ill add my thoughts to them in a lil while.;)
The only helpful comments** have come from people with similar MH problems and so they arnt valid either, you discount the the replies that have nothing to gain/garner because they are not what you want to hear.
10 years is nothing, especially when the DX that you feel helps you came only 3 months ago so well after nine years of initial illness, my mother had so many in the 60 years that she was alive and MH DX's follow fashion and BP is a fashionable DX, look at CZJ coming out last week.
LD and MH are very similar for some people, when you are beaten down by the system, family and life you just want out and making your own descions are part of wanting out, you just want it all to be done for you so you just retreat and listen to what people are telling you and that applies to all disabilities, not just MH.
If this person has the support of his treatment team they would already have a suitable home as I have said before, three years later and clutching at straws wont work, if you truely believe that they should now be looked at again do that but by posting here you are showing that that has already failed.
** by helpfull I mean what you want and not the truth, they are very diffrent things and if you just want the views of other people with bipolar you should go to a support group type site and they will offer you what you want, their, their we all agree and you are right.
Where as a site like this you will get posts from other people who wont just agree with you and will give their own views and experiances.0 -

As a side not: What I found odd is the flats are are £4 per week more expensive than a 2 bedroom house in the same estate. The town/LA seem to just be odd all round:rotfl:I found that quite amusing, I dont understand the ins and outs of benifits, but i find it bizarre that the HB people would rather pay more for less.
This poster has the same LD as I do lol, she has ASD (and has also posted she is aspie when I was struggeling to "out" myself) Im aspie :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Can't believe this thread is still being infiltrated by a certain individual who appears to have no understanding of anything.
As the OP said, his friend has been diagnosed by a Professor. Not sure how this makes the diagnosis rubbish or fashionable.
This is the problem with taking too much notice of the lives of celebrities. Maybe people should put down "OK" magazine & start researching the facts.0 -

Would help if you could spell & not talk in abbreviations.
Can't understand what you are on about.
Maybe you should spend more time on the Discussion part of the forum & leave people asking for advice alone. There you can spout rubbish to your hearts content.0 -

I never rubbished the OP's persons DX but I told the truth that MH DXs are as fashionable as any other conditions DX and I have total understanding unlike you who just wants to say "there, there" and offer unquestionable support which helps nobody.
I have more experiance that anyone else that I know, I even spent a year doing WE at Winterton.
I mentioned celebraty because over the last five years every person in the public eye with any problem has bipolar and real life follows, if you think otherwise you dont understand thae way life works with trends.0 -

Hi again. Basically you have told me your percieved truth. I understand your concept and I disagree (fair enough eh?). So now that you've expressed what you need to get off your we'll move on. You defined that your opinion was invalid by your own defination then claim to be valid. Im basically just going to blank the coments after we sort out one issue.
What do you mean in post 23? I dont have a clue what you mean?0 -
You know what sunnyone I agree with the celebrity diagnosis thing. It is very fashionable and undermines genuine sufferers such as my friend.0

I think it is insulting to suggest the OPs friend has been given a Bipolar diagnosis on the grounds that it is fashionable.
BP is a horrible illness that noone would want, however, a true diagnosis can mean the difference between suffering & getting the help needed ( support, therapy & meds) to make a big difference to an individual's life.
Just because you have experience of Winterton, dosen't give you the power to judge those with MH issues. I watched a factual documentry on Psychiatry & asylums & I was shocked and disgusted by the treatment of the paitents unfortunate to spend their time in such hovels. I don't think it's something to boast about working in one of the countries asylums.
Also, I'm not saying "there there", I'm trying to show some empathy.
I think this thread has in some respects been destroyed by people completely missing the point of the OPs posts.0 -

Many of the Winterton staff were removed from working in mental health alltogether after its closure. Claims of brutality and such? Im sure a that there was stories in the local paper. That was a long long time ago. Wasnt it early 90's when that went.
I think that to deny Bipolar existance is absurd. It used to be called manic depression as far as I know.0 -

Thanks for that TDMMDI, I cant find anywhere in the thread where the word Professor was used by any poster other than yourself, can you tell me which of the 24 hash numbers its in please ?
LD = Learning Disability
ASD = Autism and Asperger's Syndrome
aspie = Ditto = Autism and Asperger's Syndrome
Winterton = an asylum in Sedgefield built 1856 to 1996 [ known as the big chimney ] Co Durham about 10 minutes from my home
Bipolar / Manic Depression = used to be 3 varieties = unipolar / unipolar & depressive / bipolar & depressive & mania. Now its bipolar 1 and bipolar 2
