Ahhh some buyers just make me cry!

I find it very strange that you, as a seller, are essentially advocating this type of fraud from buyers soolin.
As long as it happens to other people and not you, it's fine?
Your comments are essentially tantamount to the "she was asking for it" defence.
I am aware that my style of posting is not always clear cut, but I am not really sure how else to phrase it so you can understand it.
From reading these boards it appears that most people Do NOT use recorded but do NOT have problems with buyers. Reading your posts suggests that you have quite a few problems with buyers, therefore I still suggest that you need to work out why you are affected when most of us are not.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I don't have 'quite a few' problems, I've had two in fifty items.
My problem is with the fact eBay support the buyer through hell and high water. There isn't even a pretense that the seller is supported. We should be dealing as equals.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”

I don't see how you make th elink between ebay/paypal and the Royal Mail, what has a Royal Mail claim got to do with ebay?
If Ebay & Paypal FORCE you to refund for an item lost in the post and its not really lost and Royal Mail refuse to cover it - hows that nothing to do with them? If thats the case, they should not get involved in the 1st place.
Why do ebay allow sellers to input a dispatch time - but refund the buyer before the dispatch and delivery time is even up?
Does Martin really ask you to enforce your doesn't happen to me so i don't care attitude on here - or is this just an hobby?0 -

Spot on - its well documented that Ebay constantly kick sellers in the teeth when dealing with them - and don't care that its sellers that pay the fees. The removal of seller feedback just added to the fake bidders and paypal fraudsters.
soolin lives in a different world where royal mail never lose post and buyers don't try it on.
And what happens when you get a fake bid - they return the final value fees but NOT the listing fee.
The sooner their is a rival that cares about ALL users - the better.0 -
Even thats not a 100% guarantee. Recorded delivery items can still go missing, just like standard post and you will still be repsonsible if this happens and you will have to claim from RM - the advantage being that the tracking should back you up that its gone missing.
Also... quite a few recorded delivery items never track with a signature, even when they have been delivered!
So don't expect all the potential problems to dissappear just because you start sending everything recorded!!
Exactly - more and more recorded items are failing to show as delivered. If the buyer knows the tracking number and see this online - they can say it never arrived. Signed for/recorded is of no extra value than proof of postage as far as Royal mail go - but it makes life easier with PAYPAL.
I was refused another refund from Royal mail for a recorded item , as the buyer failed to respond (probably cos they had the item). Many months later, it was still winding me up - so i demanded a copy of the signature that i paid extra for - or i would start court action. A cheque for £30 arrived the week after.0 -
Coolmumh sorry we've hihacked your thread. So much for Soolin helping the furums run smoother.
Most of us have been in your shoes. I'm glad to say, despite Soolins wrong assumption that i am targeted - about 95% of ebayers are genuine and honest. Its just annoying when it does happen - and ebay/paypal don't care.0 -

It isn't ebay/paypal that force a seller to refund if an item gets lost, it is a little known thing called 'law'. Are you really suggesting that whilst buyers have rights when buying elsewhere that ebay and paypal should refuse to adhere to that law? Any buyer has a right to receive th eitem they pay for, ebay and paypal just have a chargeback scheme that makes it simpler.
As a buyer would you be happy then if Amazon turned round and said 'oh hard luck your item must have got lost?'
You can continue your argument that I don't care, but I can only respond by saying that I am a seller as well, I understand the rules and work out my own risks and run my business according to my own strategy. If you are uncomfortable with buyers have these odd things called 'rights' then maybe you need to consider finding a different venue when postage does not come into it? Run a bricks and mortar shop, or even have a small piece of someone elses (as I also do) and have a strict policy that they see, they pay and they remove. Just remember though that even then buyers have rights and that includes a right to return for refund or replacement if goods are faulty.
As a seller we can cover ourselves against loss by using tracked post, that is up to the individual but again it goes back to risk analysis.
As for my own stats, in 2010 I sent approx 1400 items and had no losses or claims. I have already had three in 2011, one of which was to Italy and I should have known better than to attempt their postal service. All my items go 2nd class or standard airmail unless they are over the 'insurance against loss' limit in which case they go special.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I feel for the benefit of others that I should draw your attention to my signature, the last bit of which explains what a Board Guide is.

"Why" it happens is irrelevant. I don't exactly post in my listings "please scam me, PayPal will be on your side".
I'd find it more likely that business sellers can simply take the loss. If I were a merchant I'd take it on the chin as a cost of doing business. Rather more annoying when I choose to sell one of my possessions and have it effectively stolen. If Ebay & Paypal FORCE you to refund for an item lost in the post and its not really lost and Royal Mail refuse to cover it - hows that nothing to do with them? Ebays not the place for sellers like you then.
As you don't appear to care beyond getting paid, ebay choose to protect buyers from sellers like you.
Because buyers are protected, they can still buy from you, and if you don't deliver the goods, you can't throw a strop, blame everyone else, and try to keep the money.0 -
You continue to misinterpret my stance.
I do not believe sellers should get away with not sending items.
I believe eBay should have a balanced viewpoint -
a) waiting the required amount of delivery time - not simply until the buyer gets angsty
b) cooperating more with Royal Mail and couriers.
We are NOT asking to be able to defraud buyers. We are asking for eBay to consider that "item not recieved" means "buyer claims item not recieved". There is a subtle difference.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
