    You mean like Ebid?

Even as a long term seller (or rather someone who lists stuff) on ebid this is the best response ever :T

I was in Halfords last week with money to burn to buy a Sat nav but needed an assistant for advice.

Couldn't find one to help and eventually interrupted someone tidying shelves who sent me back to the cash desk as 'it wasn't his section'. As I left I heard him complain to a different member of staff 'how was he supposed to keep the shelves stocked nicely when the stuff kept being sold and then he got interrupted by stupid customers when he tried to restock'.

I thought how odd, and left without my sat nav.

Serves you right. You are on a money saving forum and go to the dearest retailer in the high street? If you don't want to buy from ebay, there are loads of reputable sites for this sort of purchase.
  • I think the "estimated delivery date" eBay puts on listings now is an improvement: when customers were left to work this out for themselves from stated dispatch times and postal services, I got the odd one with unrealistic expectations. I had one who bought an eBay item from the charity shop where I work then sent several e-mails starting the day after they paid saying the item had not arrived and asking when to expect it. After receiving the item, the customer then left neutral feedback whinging about a minor fault which did not exist when the item was sent. It could have occurred in transit, but the customer didn't tell us about the problem before leaving feedback so we had no idea.

eBay is just far too biased in favour of the buyer (probably as buyers outnumber sellers).

I gave a customer an option between uninsured and insured post, Royal Mail. Of course, they choose the uninsured option, and then claim against me when it doesn't arrive (if indeed it didn't arrive). eBay instantly refunded them the full value of the item + postage, and now I have to deal with Royal Mail. If RM tell me the item was delivered, I'll probably be screwed.

Essentially I'm being punished for offering a choice. From now on, anything of value goes recorded.

We are doing business at the end of the day. Making money is our goal. I personally do not care about DSR too much

insurance has nothing to do with the buyer, it's a seller's responsibility to ensure the item arrives, and to claim from RM if it doesn't. Why would they choose to spend more money for no benefit to them?

I don't think you understand mail order.
I don't need to pay for insured delivery, as you are delivering it to me. If you don't get it to me, it's your responsibility, and you need to replace it or refund. Anywhere, there is nothing special about ebay, (apart from the fact they make it easier for buyers who get stuck with sellers that don't understand/want to understand their obligations)
If you ask me would I like it cheaper, with no risk to me, or would I like to pay more to cover insurance for you, what do you think I'll say?

I'm not saying buyers should just pucker up and take the loss - the problem is, RM require me to wait 15 days + however long they process the claim for.

By that time, eBay have already refunded the buyer.

So if RM don't find in my favour, what then? The buyer is long gone.

So essentially, I am punishing myself by offering the buyer a cheaper option.

As I said, from now on I'll only offer insured. Everyone gets to pay more, because of the few that abuse the system by asking for refunds after 5 days.

Essentially, as it stands, I can go around and buy items and as long as they're not recorded delivery, claim back the full cost from eBay.

Only if you are a liar and a thief. It would not occur to most of us to even consider it.

If that's your view, maybe you're more suited to car booting, than a postal service.
