eBay refund buyers before the item has even had chance to be delivered.

This is not just to sellers. End of.

Refunding buyers is clearly needed to avoid sellers taking advantage of the system and simply not dispatching items.

What is not on is refunding a buyer before the 15 day delivery period is even up. I'm not sure how you could claim otherwise.

So if it's the end of, vote with your feet, and they won't be making a profit from you.

I will be sending all items recorded delivery from now on, punishing all buyers for the actions of a minority.

There are no other viable options to selling on eBay due to network effect.

So long as you are unique, or at least still competitive with normal sellers offering free delivery, you'll be fine punishing anyone you want to.

Seriously , if this happens a lot to you then you need to stop selling and work out what is going wrong and why you attract these people. I lose very few parcels in the post and I believe that most of the lost parcels are just that, lost. I do not recall the last time I had a claim opened quickly on me.

I would not want to go back to a time where a seller could neg a buyer whose item was lost in the post.

It happens to me because i charge such a low amount for postage they know it won't be recorded. As for feedback - these are scammers - which part of that don't you get. If ebay states an estimated delivery date of 14-16 april and they put in a claim the day after posting on th 5th april - what do YOU think the real problem is? Some people live of freebies off ebay - and even gloat that they really have the item and theres nothing you can do.

If you sent a buyer an email today saying you have just posted the item, and you received an email tonight saying it as not arrived and they are putting in a claim - are you saying thats genuine?

And why don't ebay wait for the outcome of the royal mail enquiry before ordering a refund? I refunded one buyer £30 for an item sent standard parcels - and when i submitted a claim to royal mail - it was denied - as he said he had the item and was happy with it!!!!!!

TBH ebay/paypal seem to have improved lately. They used to just refund the scammers and steal the money from your paypal account. Now they seem to refund most out of their own money once you have proved you did everything right. About time aswell.

I advertise 2nd class postage NOT recorded and don't have these issues, which is why I said in my post that you need to work out what you are doing that attracts poor bidders.

I don't see how you make th elink between ebay/paypal and the Royal Mail, what has a Royal Mail claim got to do with ebay?

I think you might be in for a shock. Whilst there have been a few strange ebay refunds, paypal stillr equire sellers to prove a buyer has an item otherwise the seller has to refund. It is a very simple requirement and again I would suggest that you need to look at your selling model to see why you attract difficult buyers.

If you choose to use recorded then that is up to you, most of the rest of us should be encouraging you to do so as it makes our postage 77p dearer than ours and puts us higher in Best Match and gives us better end prices. I'm currently only sending about 100 parcels a month, so recorded would cost me £77, and I'd rather keep that £77 in my pocket than give it to RM who rarely bother to get a signature in many instances anyway.

Even thats not a 100% guarantee. Recorded delivery items can still go missing, just like standard post and you will still be repsonsible if this happens and you will have to claim from RM - the advantage being that the tracking should back you up that its gone missing.

Also... quite a few recorded delivery items never track with a signature, even when they have been delivered!

So don't expect all the potential problems to dissappear just because you start sending everything recorded!!

I find it very strange that you, as a seller, are essentially advocating this type of fraud from buyers soolin.

As long as it happens to other people and not you, it's fine?

Your comments are essentially tantamount to the "she was asking for it" defence.

I think Soolin is asking why it happens, as like a lot of sellers, they don't have the problem.

I would agree with Soolin, most things I buy don't come tracked, so obviously other sellers can maintain their relationship with buyers as well.

"Why" it happens is irrelevant. I don't exactly post in my listings "please scam me, PayPal will be on your side".

I'd find it more likely that business sellers can simply take the loss. If I were a merchant I'd take it on the chin as a cost of doing business. Rather more annoying when I choose to sell one of my possessions and have it effectively stolen.
