    I don't see any signs telling me to form an orderly queue.

    "You should follow the road signs and get in lane as directed"

    What signs?

    There's a sign saying "queues likely", it doesn't say "please join the queue".

    It's a dual carriageway for f*ck sake.

    Stider, read post #111 again

    It ceases to be a dual carrigeway way when you are TOLD to get out of that lane and form 1 line of traffic.

    Why did you ignore that????? and thank the caravan tower who probably couldn't move quick enough to keep you out????

    To clarify this;

    Did you merge, or even Zip before or after the dual carriageway ended??
    I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

    Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

    No you didn't, you had to rely on a camper leting you in after you left it too late and ran out of 2 lane road. Or am I wrong? Didn't you say thanks dude for leting me in?, (or words to that effect)

    You quoted the highway code, now go back and see how you failed to comply with it.

    Magic mouse???
    Got me there, nothing magic about normally worjing to the same rules as everyone else, that move should be reserved for the odd occasion when you've got it wrong.;)

    Your wrong, your just wrong...... I followed the lines and didn't cross the chevrons, I don't call that "too late" and neither does the HWC. I picked a gap (the only gap) and I went for it.
    Your sore because you'd have joined the queue 2 miles back and waited pointlessly.

    if people used the road properly and used both lanes until they ran out of road then there would be no need for whingers, the signs say lane blocked in 200yards, not lane blocked now so merge now and leave loads of empty road. the drivers who sit like sheep in a queue moaning because cars are useing an empty lane to get further up the road should just use their heads and do likewise.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

    I'm not sore at all and I actually thought we were having a polite discussion on a topic that some will meet every single day, and there lies the problem, it is dam annoying when you queue in anticipation of the outside lane being blocked and traffic in that lane having to merge with your lane. You passed the sign that gave warning of that remember, it didn't indicate the road narrowed on the near side but the far side.
    And no you didn't cross any chevrons but neither did you complete your manouever untill the 2 lanes had become one. I for one see this every day and it does cause friction whether you accept it or not.
    Untill the rules of the road change and we adopt an official Zip system and sign it accordingly as road narrows on BOTH sides and the lane markings changed to suit ie alternate right and left painted arrows then the situation will continue.
    You may just have gathered that I agree with you that the zip system could work, I'm in favour of it but untill it is adopted officially we have to drive to the present guidlines.
    Would I have done the same as you?, No I wouldn't I wouldn't if I knew the road, which from your video captions you did.
    If I was in a desperate hurry, or had made a mistake, yes, I'd do it, but it comes under the heading of cheeky driving which is where we came in and I butt out;);)

    That's the point - the 2 lanes didn't become one, Strider merged where the lane merged, not 2 miles early like you do!
    Highway code rule 134

    "You should follow the road signs and get in lane as directed",
    I wonder if that's why all the traffic was on the left??
    As strider says, where's the sign that says 'sit in the left hand lane'? The signs tell you in good time when the merge is. This is for your information. You may be in the middle of an overtake, and you may be sitting in a queue - you'll take different actions depending on the situation. This is the point I'm trying to get across.
    Strider did zip btw - he was part of a very tiny zipper system!
    I agree that people like you might acknowledge this very good system better if the left physically moved towards the right, but that's an awful lot of roadworks to carry out - how's about you just try using the system I've told you about, that you fully understand, and that I think you might actually realise in your heart of hearts, works better - go on, give it a go!

    :silenced::silenced::silenced::silenced::silenced::silenced::silenced:, but I can't resist;

    You mentioned the Americans use this system, and I think you said the Germans do too???
    The 2 most arogant and impolite nations on earth, and then you think you think it would suit us?.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    The fact is I'm not decrying the zip system, I don't know how many times I have to state that, but untill it is adopted totally, not just by a handfull of what are seen to be "cheeky" and impatient drivers it is a recipe for road rage. Thats my point, not whether the zip is a better system. You can't get away from the fact that when a driver see's a sign telling him the lanes to the right are blocked or narrowed off he should position himself to the left in good time for the hazard, not try to cut in at the last minute. Heart on heart Strider knew he'd left it late, what would have happened if the caravan tower had taken exception and not let him in?

    If you feel strongly enough about it go and harangue the highways people for a change in the guidlines. It wouldn't need a change in road layouts as you suggest, just replacement of signs and alternate R and L arrows on the cariageway.

    And don't for a minute think I don't do this on occaission, but I do know I run the risk of not being let in and may have to cut in sharply, plus there's always someone, often a wagon, that pulls to the left to stop the queue jumpers. Yes there's probably a better system but at present it isn't adopted on British roads, matbe we are just too polite:T:T:T

    Bri-it sounds as if you have been up the massive hill into Alfreton from Shirland(I think), I've seen a trucker get out and threaten to smack a driver that dared to pass him where it starts to merge at the top.Seen plenty trying to block both lanes too.
