Cheeky Driver's or Not?!

I've just been to the supermarket to do my weekly shop when I noticed some cheeky driver's, though they weren't doing anything wrong!

The road I was on gets very busy with traffic and has 2 lanes, with a roundabout at the end. You would get in the left lane for turning left at the roundabout and the right lane to go right (no straight across junction).

There I was sat in the left lane when I noticed a flash car zoom by, I then watched this car enter the roundabout and go all the way round! He obviously wanted the left hand turn, but didn't want to sit and wait. I then noticed nearly every car in the right hand lane that passed me doing the same thing.

I wouldn't never have thought to do that!

What are your thoughts, cheeky or smart way to miss traffic?!

When I think about it though, the reason it takes ages to turn left and the traffic starts building up is due to people going all the way round the roundabout and then going left where I wanted to go!!

Cheeky, and gets other drivers' back up which isn't really a good thing. It's also a bit risky, as the people turning left at the roundabout may not expect the car that was on their right to suddenly re-appear in front of them

Used to be very common on a roundabout near here. There are now signs up saying right hand lane is for traffic turning right only, and the Police stick a car there every so often just to catch a few people doing it.

There is a roundabout near our home and my Husband always uses the roundabout in this same manner OP.

He takes the right hand lane then goes right round the roundabout and off to the left exit.

I had never thought of it myself lol :rotfl:

Cant see that there is anything "illegal" in it though (refering to the poster who mentioned putting a police car at the roundabout to catch people doing it)

Its not something that I would do myself as Im never in that much of a hurry .
The loopy one has gone :j

Maybe a transgession of the HW code took place, but no laws were broken.

  • I'd imagine that this behaviour is certainly frowned upon by the police and certainly isn't good road manners, but I can't see anything inherently illegal about it.

I could be wrong though. :)

I regularly do it on one particular large roundabout, 3 lanes into it with the right hand lane nearly almost empty.I need the 2nd exit which on that particular roundabout is served by the 1st lane but also has the heaviest traffic. It makes sense to go all the way around and then take my exit and helps keep the roundabout flowing more efficiently than choking it up with too many people in the same lane.
I wouldn't do it on mini roundabouts though, too small and most people wouldn't be expecting it.

Hmmm it might not be illegal and perfectly acceptable but its still not something I would do! I'll carrying on sitting in the correct lane for my turn off with the more patient drivers! I believe in karma!!
