Whilst I don't think legally one is doing anything wrong when going right the way round the roundabout to turn left, it certainly does mess up the traffic flow.

Near us there is a roundabout where people drive up the outside to queue jump, then do a full circuit of the roundabout. The problem is so many do it, then the cars coming the other way are stopped, and the traffic soon backs up to the next roundabout which is on the bypass - this results in horrendous queues both ways on the bypass - then everyone cuts through town to avoid the queues on the bypass.

Occasionally the plod put a police car on the roundabout, no-one goes right round it, and the traffic flows freely - probably as the planners designed it to do.

I'd love to see what the police could stop someone for, if they did stop you more than once you could probably have them for harrassment.

It's interesting that people have different views on whether it's cheeky or not. I suppose we are all different and we need people who are happy to wait and we need people who have no time to sit and wait.

When I was at the supermarket again I took more notice this time and I saw a sign on the road (never noticed it before as I know the area well) and it does say which lane you need to be in (left lane for turning left, right lane for turing right). It doesn't say you can't go all the way round though.

the person using the right hand lane is sometimes helping the left, as they are going right around the roundabout, the traffic joining from the right (3 oclock) are prevented from coming across thus letting some cars out of the left lane.

It is not smart, clever or illegal. However it gives neanderthal man making those driving moves a feeling of superior intelligence for few minutes.

The reason the queue to turn left is so big is because of the people abusing the system, (albeit legally). They are making the problem that they are avoiding much worse. They are not clever, beating the system or thinking outside the box.

    They are simply ar*eholes.

As said it can actually aid traffic flow by preventing oncoming traffic stopping the left lane from progressing ;)

This thread might as well be asking if it's "cheeky" to drive upto the vacant left hand petrol pump in a car with a right hand filler cap and reel out all the hose to go around your car.

Or if it's "cheeky" to use leave a queue and jump to the newly opened til at the supermarket.

    Get over yourselves people!!!!
