  • What I would like to know is How can a company set a self employed person a 'SALES TARGET'? surely being self employed means you work for yourselves when YOU want to work or work (not provident) dictates? Also stated in another post that it may be illegal to be self employed for more than 13 weeks while only doing work for one company. Surely Inland revenue should be able to look into this for you. Is there anyone from HMRC who could maybe give advice or possibly even investigate providents work practices. I'm sure you may get some joy on this subject if you dig a little deeper. Also was the chief exec of this company not in charge of barclaycard for a while and am almost sure he almost tipped them over the edge, something else that could be looked into. If some of you are serious about attending the shareholders agm next week then this maybe able to be raised with them once you confirm the answers first of course. hope this may help a little.

We're self-employed so they dont have to pay for sick leave, holidays, pensions or any of the other advantages of being employed. Even an accountant I know has said he's amazed they have got away with it for so long, its such a grey area and they tread a very fine line between the two. They shouldnt tell us what sales to do, but they do. They shouldnt do alot of things but they still do them. Anyway my gripe isnt with them about whether we should be self-employed or not or whether they should give us sales targets, because without sales there would be no collections and no commission. But they shouldnt push for more and more and then hold us accountable when they go bad. Afterall we're not the ones who say go and issue again to a previous write off for example. It is high risk and this risk is reflected in the charges. That should be enough, doesnt 145million in profit say it all.
  • Has any other agents been told by customers they received texts saying "Over the bank holiday why not pay by debit card,
Very clever Provident, customers paying by card = no commission for the agents, even less wages.

Not true if they pay by card you still get the commission. I had 2 customers settle by card the other week and earned 80 quid doing absolutely nothing! :j

as for sales targets, we have to have them even though i agree with what you saying but like in any business, if its not seen as profitable its not worth keeping so is then closed down, like if you worked on a site, building! if your target is half a house a day and you only build a quarter of one, your not making money for the company so the get rid of you, but because your self employed its easier because there is no come backs the can get rid same day, no redundancy to pay out even after 30 years or work you get nothing but a pat on the back and the doors closed behind you, this is why provident think they can get away with what there doing, the think we have no common sense they think we will take this crap but after all one person can only take so much, but alot of us can make things difficult, oh and yes a quote from a manager cant mention no names but, the reason for this, the new pay thing is' WELL WE PAY THEM (us, the agents)ENOUGH SO WE MIGHT AS WELL MAKE THEM WORK FOR IT!, and if you have asked questions like what about transfers utr's customers in hospital, they mite have been sympathetic, or come across like they were, and said we will deal with that, the managers answer to this, to AM 's and DM's was, TOUGH, THEY WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT,,, cant say it to our faces though can they?
  • well this weeks gonna be another crap one for me i think i may even end up with more fines than wages what happens then? will i be paying them for me going to work? got an interveiw on thursday fingers crossed i get it cos ill go collect my clip and bag and then ring my dm on balancing night saying ive not been out collecting and i quit

I have a family friend who works for Provident Personal Credit, they are now being penalised for fines on accounts that were created and loans given out BEFORE they started work for Provident, they are also being penalised for loans arranged behind thier back by thier DM that they never authorised or approved of while the managers were doing theyre big sales push a few months back in order to make the managers sales figures look better, they are also being penalised and told to go to peoples doors for money when the customers themselves have informed them that they are now on a debt management plan and have been told by the debt management company that they are not to pay anyone, I have told them I feel these fines are nothing short of fraud & theft on a corporate basis & to contact the fsa, the police, and to take legal advice in regard of fraud & theft (aka fines) being taken from them as they seem to keep changing the conditions of working for them under the self employed rules that they imposed without giving clear & precise details of any commisions and/or fines, and I myself have made a complaint to the bbc's watchdog, so hopefully everyone else on here will do the same & out the shameful, dastardly & despicable business ethics of this so called loan shark business

A truly disgusted member of the public

The job at morrisons mentioned in an earlier post suddenly seems appealing. I wonder if they get deductions if someone does a runner with a leg of lamb!

Crazyguy you say your self employed with your own buisness , surely you can see were us agents are coming from not as provident but as been self employed people .You go out ther do the work to your best ability and get ripped off by someone weekly , big loss to your buisness as a self employed person , how long do you think you would last if someone was ripping you off by 70% each week not much of a profit margin there for a buisness is there.
And before you start spouting off get a proper job or find something else some of these agents have given 20 years service for what ??? they not gonna get a company pension like the fat cats they will be lucky if they get a thank you kiss my a**e , so a little respect not for provident but for human beings that are trying to make ends meet .
Its not everyones cup of tea and you are entitled to dislike provident for your own reasons , and your friend was very unlucky but dont tie every agent with the same brush.

    Sash,

Ok fair enough I have re read the posts and see where you are coming from, I still say that if you do dislike it that much and as stated are being crucified out of money what options are there other than to leave.

If you kick up a fuss you may face the risk of being told to leave anyway so I would say bite your tounge and look at other employment.

Your only other option is to look out for the anual share holders meeting and then go and have your say about the issues !
