  • GASA is being marketed the wrong way, as is the incentive for sales and pur's. It is total ignorance for a DM to say you will be ahead of the game if you get the above targets. If you work hard to achieve these targets then you are entitled to the rewards just the same as the management pushing you. To say you can offset them against fines is totally wrong as the fines should not be there in the first instance. If we were to fine management for every telesales call or head office for every letter that pushed a customer one step over the edge to financial ruin then I'm sure we would be very rich agents indeed.
16 years I've been in this game and I can assure you that the deals done by management are some of the worst ever, all to achieve a bonus and not have their as- kicked by Am's and ROM'S. This company has some of the country's worst lending habits ever and it's abouttime some of these deals were looked at by the CCA. The only reason this does not happen is that provident fund most of the CCA and also most of the lenders compared website! Thats why there was such a rush a couple of years ago to put stickers on customers books to promote it, anything to help keep provident at No1 in the marketplace. They don't tell you that though do they?

To all of the general public who have read the posts on this forum, welcome to the world of Provident.

As an Agent be prepared to work all hours in all weather. No holidays, no sick pay, no maternity leave, you must agree to cover your Agency 52 weeks of the year ( or arrange for someone else to cover you ).

You will be set targets to achieve each and every week.

Non performing Agents will be shown the door ( read the posts).

Be expected to work each and every day if your customer wants a loan, be available 7 days a week to answer your mobile phone to customers.

You are the lowest of the low.

As I was told, if you don't like the job.. there's the door.

    I chose the door.

This will be my last post because i feel that the bulk of people are just not getting it and we continue to go around in circles,

The new commission scheme was brought in because agents have had it easy for years and were in the comfort zone, established agents have to adapt a new approach to the job and they cant do it and dont like it, The new scheme pulls together what the company need to achieve and its not all about agents.
New agents have adopted the new scheme and doing well, the company results in my region are good, Agents and DM's that cant do it need to adapt or move on the industry has changed and we need to change with it.

£400 plus agencies are a thing of the past if you dont do call backs or recruit customers, agents on here that put on crap during promotions and reaped thousands have now become accountable and again they dont like it, you can go to a top legal team and they will tell you that you are SELF- EMPLOYED ,AND PROVIDENT HAVE THE RIGHT UNDER YOUR CONTRACT TO MAKE DEDUCTIONS & PAYING YOU G.A.S.A IS ALSO LEGAL , ( GET AHEAD STAY AHEAD ) for all the agents that have no understanding of the concept.

Six weeks in and its not going to change so please move on for the good of PROVIDENT who by the way have been around over 125 years, vote with your feet not your keyboard.

    Taxi for Bash.
I agree with your comments re customer promotions, and that I doubt things will change, but you are very wrong on the other counts.I was told by someone from head office that fines were brought in as provident were getting flack from CAB etc. over customers who's credit rating was being effected due to agents not calling, and this information being passed to credit reference agencies causing them problems with other credit.Long term agents continue to call,we were trained better and consider it our duty to collect out anything we have issued[over 20 years is not unusual].newer agents give up quicker, and yes they may put on more customers[which keeps shareholders happy, and what this is really about] but the quality is not always good, and they have more write offs as a result.Don't take a sledgehammer to crack a nut provi, instead retrain under performing agents, stop silly promotions which encourage rubbish to be put on, make managers more accountable for issue done via office. All areas are not the same, if you work in a deprived area your problems as an agent will be greater, plus your workload,so don't penalise them further. You already have fines in place i.e. a drop in commision from 9.5% to 6%, which can make difference of up to £30 less commision on an average £500 loan over 50 weeks, so instead of more fines how about repaying lost commision up to 9.5% if loan is collected fully out ,after all we signed a contract with the customer to call at their house for 50 weeks, and if we continue to call way after that [at our own expence] there should be the chance for us to recoup lost commision, not be fined again for the pleasure. This would give agents a reason to continue calling, and would cost the company no more than they orginally expected to pay in commision when the loan was taken out.Get rid of this fines culture, and use encouragement, not a big stick, and you will have a happy more motivated workforce. Then we can really make this company fly.
  • Can anyone send me a copy of the contract given to us Agents when we started as i have lost mine,
I have been told we cannot take a payment within 7 days of issuing a loan as this is the cooling off period.
Please please Mr Security all agents take a payment in less than 7 days if the customer got a loan on Monday and is a Friday collect then thats less than 7 days as this is how Providents weeks fall i.e finish week on Monday and start new week on Thursday. If agents left the payment for more than 7 days then the customer would automatically go into arrears.
What the heck are Provident going to come up with next, deducting monies etc from us all,in silly fines and target hits.
Please tell me if im going mad or am i correct in this 7 day thing.

Technically security are correct, however I can see what you are saying, plus it is a grey area because that payment is not logged against that customer untill you pay in on either the monday or tuesday. We have 2 choices, either we only issue before or on normal collecting day,or we call that first time on the monday if issue done friday, then again we could all just say enough is enough goodbye.

I wonder if there are any "undercover" Agents or DM's just starting with Provident ?
  • You are wrong bash. The agents do understand the scheme,( Sorry I meant SCAM). This is why they are leaving and will continue to leave. Regardless, If for now, a few agents are making money from it. We know this will not last long, as the summer holidays are soon approaching, The figures you rave on about will speak for themselves then. Of course we will all expect you to further delude yourself and stay in denial. Are you the creator of this SCAM? I am sure it must be your baby. Your total Disregard and Disrespect to agent’s postings on here would strongly suggest so. Your username and Attitude in addition to this contrived SCAM must make you feel very proud that you have succeeded in the goal you set out for yourself. To BASH THE AGENTS. Where did it all go wrong? Were you bullied at school? Not enough attention or love in your life? I am glad this is your last post but I am sure you will be reinventing yourself as someone else very soon. Anything for recognition. That’s is what it is ultimately about for you and your kind. Living in your materialistic outer shell. Then you and your brainwashed colleagues can look forward to a larger salary from the next company and fly just in time before the crash comes. What a sallow existence you all lead. To have and see people’s livelihood taken away, Their moral crushed and to get so much obvious enjoyment from it is deeply disturbing. Unfortunately, This attitude towards agents over the last few years appears to be quite fashionable. Long are the days when management and agents were part of a team. Now it has all become about Programming, Mind Control and Bullying. Personally, I was happy working my round and involving myself with some very dear customers but chose to resigned when the SCAM started, Although, For me, It was not just about this. If they reversed their decision on this today it would make no difference to me. The deterioration in attitude and disrespect towards agents from management level.(bash and co on this site amplifies what has been occurring at branch level to a lesser degree for sometime now, this will continue to increase with time if left unchecked and with these people as role models.) Does anyone remember the last world cup and the new door campaign? If you do, then you will remember at the end of the very last day of promotion a text message was sent out to agents stating that any ND, PUR, NB, Signed up that had not made a payment to date would not be counted in the campaign. This would have been acceptable had it been highlighted at the start of the promotion, but to change the goal post at the very end was a desperate, underhanded tactic and without class. Another classless and desperate measure occurred when the company sent out random letters in streets and areas offering householder’s loans. They wanted us, As agents, to call on these householders in the pretence of offering them vouchers to worm their way around the illegal act they were inciting us to do. I point blank refused to take part in this, as I am sure many agents did. I still have the brainwashing literature and speech they had worked out for us to rehearse. I keep it as a reminder of how low they could stoop and will use it as a role play party piece at ChristmasJ .
I am pleased I have left all this nonsense behind me. I think with head offices stance here agents have two choices to leave and free their minds of all this rubbish, or to stay and have the life slowly sucked out of them. The job will never be the same because the people you are working with are different. Do not expect compassion, reason or appealing to their sense of decency because they are devoid of all three. Nearly 74, 000 views on this subject, How many do you think are from head office monitoring it? Maybe at least a third? What does this tell you about their callousness? And what does this tell you about yourselves if knowing this you still choose to work for them? Yes it is a hard decision if to stay or go, Ultimately there are losses and gains with everything in life. If you were in a abusive relationship how many of you would you stay and be abused? Why is this any different? It can not be purely because money is at sake? No one can afford to leave his or her jobs in the current climate but neither can you let your self worth be destroyed. The postings from agents and agents I have known over the years have all unique qualities and are strong individualities. The diversity of the job and all the skills involved in running your agency demands this. Do not under value yourselves or let what’s happening around you undermine you or forget this. There are many roles you can apply yourselves to. For agents who are choosing to stay and collecting on former agents books I would ask you to reflect on your actions and loyalty here. If it is just a case of capitalizing on any opportunity available then perhaps you should reconsider this approach. It is not helping anyone accept yourself short term and of course the company.
Provident may have had part of the title to this thread removed (well done stormchild for initiating it. You should be proud) but regardless it is still there when you use the search engines and will be what many people remember them for. There 15minutes of high fiveing, back slaps could turn into a lives time of malefic, detrimental achievement. PROVIDENT AGENTS RIPPED OFF, if anyone wants to google it as a reminderJ

As for the brain storming abbreviation of GASA, Really impressed but I think you have it wrong. Should read, GREAT AGENTS SHAME ABOUT…. Well, we could be here forever finishing this one, But I think you all know what is going on.

  • I'll tell you Bash what an Ex Agent would know. I've had Security round my house and phoning me, trying to get me to dish the dirt on a manager so they can sack him !!!! This is at an office with 2 managers off sick so I would think the last thing they would need is another manager down if they didnt need that amount !!!!
I think you maybe right about this Andrew. I too had head office phone me wanting to know information about my DM when I resigned.
