My home is a mess

I have an excuse for a messy house it is being done up.
I am stripping all the wall paper and having the walls plastered. So plaster dust everywhere LOL!!!!
But once it is all done. I promise to get it tidy!!!!
I've been making that promise for years. Good thing OH is stretching out the job of doing the house up so I don't have to get it tidy :rotfl:He's only dragging it out because he promised to marry me once the house was finishedBuffythedebtslayer wrote: »have hoovered All over the show.
You haven't hoovered everywhere - my house still needs a bit of looking at. What time are you coming over?
Cat - nice to hear from you again. Glad you've had such a good excuse for being M.I.A. :T I fully agree with Buffy's inner 9 year old!
After starting the year with so much motivation and organisation and efficiency, dealing with a load of carp at work has pretty much knocked it all out of me. That and the false start on the heating. House is finally warm again but it is most definitely a sh!thole of dirt and mess once again. I'm managing to keep on top of cooking healthily and doing laundry but haven't cleaned for weeks. We've had to move stuff around for plasterers and heating engineers and to get the new boiler installed and stuff so the store room is utterly chaotic now. Haven't done any ironing for a while but keep thinking I'm going to so clothes aren't being put away.
So basically, normal service has resumed :rotfl:
We should be in the new living room in the next few weeks so I'm going to try and get the place a bit more sorted before then. Emphasis on try!0 -
Hi Folks,
I have the afternoon off work and am having a late lunch at home. I am determined to make use of the extra hours to do some demessifying. Specifically my bedroom floor is going to be cleared, the discarded mail which is starting to collect in the hall again will be chucked out or filed and the bathroom cleaned. I had a minor disaster over the weekend when, after feeling rather pleased with myself for finally sorting out my music and putting it all on a neglected bookcase, said bookcase collapsed. Considering whether to buy another one (it's only a bit over waist height) or dispose of some of the books that are on the large bookcase in the living room and use that instead. Some of the books must be charity shop material and they're shoved in any old way so it looks a mess even though it's not in the way. Lunch first anyway.0 -
Hi Messies!
Cat - surprising how much carp can build up in a small bathroom, isn`t it? I de-carped mine last week, was shocked how much there was.
Welcome Calleyw - getting re-plastered sounds a pretty good excuse!
Donnajt - hope the meds change helps, but well done, sounds like you`re keeping on top of things. Sometimes just `ticking-over` has to do, and it`s a victory when the mess doesn`t get any worse!!
Sonastin - see? you CAN live without ironing! Don`t feel discouraged now, at least you have got the house warm again and a new LR to look forward to.
Messy Status report -
I`ve not done much today, mostly gentle pottering. ?mentally conserving energy for back-to-work tomorrow?
It`s very windy, so I`ve not got further outside than the bin & the birdfeeders, and watching Daftie-dog getting blown around the garden!
I`ve done a bit of freezer tetris, and making a pork casserole from some ice-age pork steaks (had to trim them a fair bit first, should be ok)
Aiming to leave downstairs tidy so it might possibly stay that way...0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Cat :j, how lovely to see you in here again, and SO good to hear about the new man! I'm so pleased for you.
Buffy, how awful about the fleas, but I hope you're now on the way to beating them. Our previous cat had a really bad batch of fleas a couple of years ago, but we never worked out how she got them. She hardly ever went outside, and certainly wouldn't have gone near another cat, so it was a real mystery.
Hi and welcome to TripleJ.
Sorry to hear the depression is taking some beating, donna, and I hope the new meds kick in soon.
I'm glad to hear your heating's sorted, sonastin, but such a shame the de-messying has come to a standstill atm. I don't know how anyone copes with full restoration of a house. It was bad enough when we had the bathroom done.
Jps, sorry things aren't too good with you. Are you still able to work?
Emms, as busy as ever. How do you do it? I suppose it's that old saying, "If you want something done, ask a busy person". Well done, anyway, for all the clearing and sorting.
Not sure that I have an excuse for being MIA although, in the last week, after discussing things with a friend, I've decided to cut down just a little on my commitments. The above saying was becoming very true for me, and I started to object to people assuming I was going to do certain things - things in which I've very little interest, and no talent/gift at all. I'd also started to have minor panic attacks, which is when I started reviewing what I was doing and why. Anyway, all that should bear no relevance to de-messying but I've found that, instead of getting on with housework, I've just been sitting at the computer because I just can't be bothered to think! I made a start by emailing someone to say that I wouldn't be going to a meeting tonight, and hopefully, she'll understand. We take de-messying as referring to our homes but, maybe it sometimes needs to be our minds and lives, too.0 -

oohh what a dilemna...on one hand it could be fate playing its hand but can you live without the bookcase? definitely charity shop the books you no longer want/need - once the books have gone do you still need a bookcase? if you buy another one and its only half used, you will end up filling it up again very quickly!
Hope lunch was good x0 -

I desperately need to play freezer tetris - I am too afraid to open the door at the mo - last time a gammon joint fell out and badly bruised my foot :mad:0 -

Well done on saying no to the meeting, enjoy the time you have taken back, hope you do something nice for yourself with it x0 -
Thank you, donna. I have quite a few hobbies, but just sitting doing not very much seems fairly appealing atm. I have three evening meetings to go to next week, one of which is absolutely essential. I may well back out of one of the others because although all important, when I've been to an evening meeting, I often find I don't sleep particularly well afterwards, because my mind's still working overtime.0

Your collapsed book case is presenting you with an opportunity! If you feel you have clutter trouble, and you have noted that some of the books are CS-able, and if (like me!) you are a great procrastinator DON`T replace the book case!
I`ve recently been quite ruthless & motivated (unfinished yet) and have now got rid of one wobbly book case & contents, and have another bookcase that is empty. I also have a waist-high pile of books in a corner of spare room of Doom. It`s SO tempting just to fill up the shelves and call the job done, but I`ve started so I`ll finish...sometime!

Well done on reviewing your commitments and taking control of your time!
I hate having to note dates on my calendar - I expect to, of course, with my work rota, but beyond that I love to see clear spaces! I also feel that seeing a spate of appointments and events there is a kind of mental clutter. As for Meetings..in my experience - years back animal rescue, PTA & village fete committees, Fostering meetings, and more recently just staff meetings (which usually get re-scheduled or postponed indefinitely, Hell they can`t even decide WHEN to have them!) it always takes folk a lot longer to say what they have to say, and however well they all get along there`s nearly always someone attending who DOESN`T say their bit and then goes and has a moan about it afterwards!! I saw a lovely poster once, it said "God so loved the World that He didn`t send a committee."
Donna-
My neighbour used to do Avon and she felt like that when she gave it up. I hope your walk did you good, very brave of you in this wind, though it`s eased off a lot now.
I just checked my new rota and discovered I finish at 2pm tomorrow! Actually looking forward to it now!0 -

:rotfl: More appropriate than you could imagine, Emms, since all of the meetings are church-related in some way, although more for the combined churches in the area, rather than the church which I attend. One of the meetings next week is a leadership meeting for 'my' church and, being on the leadership (there are only three of us, only 17 in the church), it's rather essential I'm there!0
