This is nothing to do with tidying but I have to get it out there. I HATE gift vouchers.
Back on topic I haven't done a tap today but DH has done lots so that's a good thing. Hope everyone else has a nice sunny day like we have here.0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Sashanut, I do so empathise with you - went through so much of that with DD2 although, with her mental health problems, it wasn't entirely her fault. Does put you very much on edge, though, doesn't it? Hugs to you!
Alec e, the gift vouchers weren't HMV ones, were they?
Have to say that chez bear isn't too bad atm, apart from the cats' boxes that I keep falling over. I'm managing to keep the washing under control, and have found that it all dries much more quickly if I don't load up the drier. It's obvious really, as the air can circulate much better. So less is more, in this case. House has been vacuumed, dusted, and bathroom and kitchen floors washed in the last couple of days. I'm gradually sorting out really tatty clothes into a rags bag for the local animal charity. They have a large sign in their shop window declaring "We want your pants"! Sorry to disappoint them, but old t-shirts and suchlike will have to do. :rotfl:0 -
Hello Messies,

However I did make the effort to clear up the kitchen las night surfaces etc and load the dishwasher. Was VERY nice to walk in there this morning!

No they're not for HMV or anything like that, they're just more trouble than they're worth imo.
Why wouldn't you donate old underwear?0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Sorry to hear you've not been well, Buffy, but I hope you're picking up now.
Alec e, I don't actually have any old underwear to donate, but there's a reason why I wouldn't. I have a friend who used to work part-time as a manager of a charity shop. She was once going through a pile of bags and boxes of donated stuff, and amongst them was a small tatty suitcase She opened it and ..... well, let's just say the contents weren't very clean. Of course, I wouldn't send anything that hadn't been washed, but my friend's experience and reaction have stuck in mind for a long time.
Re the gift vouchers, I'm pretty sure I've never had any problems. I have to say, though, that M&S is by far the best.0 -
Ha! Nothing good ever comes out of suitcases! I worked in charity shops for years as a manager and a vol and mainly in the processing room, you see all kinds. Most of it you don't really look at in detail and there are some bags you know are going to go straight into the rag bin.
My issue with gift vouchers is that the person couldn't be bothered to buy a proper gift yet they still want to dictate what the gift is. Buy a gift or give cash not this nonsense half way house. I know few people agree and everyone has their rationale for why they do it but I don't like them.0 -

I can understand your feelings - what an odd idea! I've not given gift vouchers for years, and I think the last time I did so was for my niece and two nephews. It was so long since I'd seen them (their mum, my sister, never talked to me much then, not at all now), that there was no chance of me choosing something that they liked.
Today, I've sorted and put away dried washing, and done another WM load. Haven't made the bed yet- not because of idleness, but both cats are stretched out on the bed. Once OH comes home, and G and S wake up wanting food, the bed will get made.

Hello,
May I join in?
I am slowing beginning to get on top of things. My life was a bit of a mess until recently and that was reflected badly in the house.
Until a couple of months ago I had a stressful job working for a pharmaceutical company. As a full time working mum I found it too much and the house really went to pot!!
Well I was made redundant at the end of last year and I have spent the last couple of months getting on top of the house and garden. It feels GREAT!!!!! I have taken bags of unwanted clutter to the local animal sanctuary and there is still much more to do. I have dusted, hoovered, washed and cleaned. I have also created a monthly household chore list which I am determined to stick to.
I will soon be starting work again as a freelancer, so I NEED to be able to keep the house in a good state for my own peace of mind.0 -
Hello and welcome, Lavender Rose. Sounds like you've had a huge change of lifestyle, and are all the better for it, so good for you! I've never worked from home, so can't really give any advice, but I reckon that your chore list is great preparation. Maybe, like writers do, you could set aside particular times for work, or particular times for chores?0

Hi all:j
Popping in to report on progress - or not - of demessying.....mmm
Big plans for getting things done on Fri didn't happen as on phone to various people re my elderly dad - still hopefully I now can fill in the forms they need me to, mega complicated.
Well not a lot done yesterday either as we were out most of it, today, made a bit of a start in the garden (did I mention the garden??) eek there is so much to do & I know if I don't do something it will get away from me as it did last year!!! I hacked down a load of brambles & dragged them into a pile, also tried to chop down some stuff around the green house with limited success. I used to have a bit of help from my friend's nephew but he now has a proper job:T & has moved to London. He did do a lot in the front garden but got the job before he could do much in the back, sadly. I would happily be out there all of the time, more so than doing housework TBH. In reality neither the house nor the garden get done:mad:
However, I am going to work on DH - he doesn't do 'man work' so not the garden but he has 'cleared the office'. In reality this means there are umpteen full binbags on upstairs landing & bizarrely in downstairs loo - I do think he's getting more helpful, ever hopeful I am:rotfl:
YorkshireLass - don't worry too much about your DD - she may not turn out like mine:eek: It's different nowadays as they can communicate with you very easily - sometimes I think it means they just ring you rather than tackle the problem themsleves, meaning that they don't grow up & become independent - but in my dds case become an adult baby:rotfl:
Bearcub - sounds like you had problems with your DD as well - I am so looking forward to her being on holiday & out of the country for 2 weeks:T:T:TNew start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0
