My home is a mess

Hi all. Too tired to stay long. I have read and digested your posts.
For Cat and others with messy bathrooms - I have a small box in the gap between the sink and the bath filled with plastic bath toys. My kids are 12 and 14. I think my 4 yo niece used them once about 6 months ago when she stayed over.
Question is - why dont I just bin them???? Oh and the bathroom cabinet is full of stuff no-one uses. The stuff we do use is cluttering up the window ledge.
Sigh - I am off to bed. Night all!0 -

Your collapsed book case is presenting you with an opportunity! If you feel you have clutter trouble, and you have noted that some of the books are CS-able, and if (like me!) you are a great procrastinator DON`T replace the book case!
I`ve recently been quite ruthless & motivated (unfinished yet) and have now got rid of one wobbly book case & contents, and have another bookcase that is empty. I also have a waist-high pile of books in a corner of spare room of Doom. It`s SO tempting just to fill up the shelves and call the job done, but I`ve started so I`ll finish...sometime!
I'm afraid I didn't get all I intended to today and you are right, I am a world class procrastinator which doesn't help. It was a bigger and more depressing job than I expected. The stuff I found on my bedroom floor - Christmas card saying "All the best for 2009", wall calendar for 2008, magazines from 2 years ago still in their wrapping. Most bizarrely four pairs of smart shoes, all of which are about half a size too small and look barely worn. I don't even like buying shoes - I've been re-ordering the same sort for the past 5 years! Definitely for CS-ing. The stuff I threw out filled half my wheelie bin!
I've swept up the dust and fluff that was lying under all that 'carp' so it does look a lot better but some stuff has gone back on the bookcase. It's only the top shelf that's come really loose so I put some books and papers back on the lower shelves just so I'm not tripping over them. The bookcase is getting chucked though because it looks like it may collapse again.
Tomorrow evening I will prune the contents of the living room bookcase and hopefully provide enough space there so I won't need to buy another and end up filling it up with more junk again.
I think the bathroom can wait till tomorrow too. I'm still finishing off my dinner so it's as well I had a late lunch I suppose.0 -

Hi all :j
Just checking in so you don't think I've disappeared under piles of carp.......have been doing some de-messying but not loads:( DH has 'caught the bug' and has been locked in the office upstairs, filling bin bags with goodness knows what. They are now cluttering up the upstairs landing and the downstairs WC - with a massive pile of books in the front hall...... will have to go through the bags to see what he is throwing though, don't worry about his stuff but he doesn't always see what is important IYWIM:D
Anyhow, though he works from home, he's got a meeting all morning so theoretically I have time on my own, usually I can get loads done. Although DD will have to prised from her pit at some time, not looking forward to that. Having said that she is more helpful than usual, DH thinks it's because he had a big go at her last Sat, in fact I happen to know it is because she wants to go out tonight:D As she's an adult (!) it shouldn't be an issue, but there is invariably some problem that involves us. FI, she doesn't take a key for fear of losing it, we leave one out. Sat she went out (after the big row) didn't need the key leaving as she was staying over. 3.10am the phone rings, she's lost her friends & needs the key leaving:mad: Then, DH can't get back to sleep, so goes downstairs, I am awake for an hour or so. When I wake at 6am & check her room there is no DD!! Panic then check phone to see DH sent me a message to say she'd found her friends & wasn't coming home after all:mad::mad::mad:
To Keep that on topic, since then she has been slightly more helpful, has changed her bed but her definition of 'clean your room' seems a tad different from mine:rotfl:New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Hi everyone,
Not much to report from me but I do want to get back into the swing of posting. I've just been getting things done this week including more ironing than ever! I don't quite know how but we've found another 2 bags for the charity shop, if the wind ever dies down we'll drop that off then it's just general house stuff.
Have a good day.0 -
Hey there Messies,
I'm still around, lurking! Been having a tires few weeks with shifts and going on the laptop is the last thing I wanted to do. This week however, I've been on annual leave so lots of chilling, relaxing and getting things done (sort of).
The house is looking a bit of a state and I don't really know where to start :-( I'm really struggling to be motivated with it! I used to be really organised but I seem to have turned into this epic procrastinator!!
Have aquafit at 12, so I'll have a little blitz for and hour or so.
Catch you later0 -

Hi all
Sashanut, that story about your daughter makes me shudder. I have got all that kind of thing to look forward to as my kids are starting to grow up. My 12 yo has just been invited to a disco at a local pub(!) - turns out they have a separate function room so there will be no alcohol but a lot of parents arent letting their kids go. Its such a hard one isnt it?
Well, my hoover is dying. I have noticed for a while that its not picking up as well as it used to do. Hubby took it apart, cleaned and washed all the filters, cleaned the brushes etc. It now doesnt pick up properly AND makes an awful noise. I dont think it liked being taken to bits.
Funds are tight so I have just ordered a really cheap one from Argos. Just want something that actually picks up the dust and dog hairs not leaves half of it behind.
So other than slightly messy carpets I have had quite a successful week. Managed to take a few things to the tip this morning and have been making a big effort to do at least a little bit of de-messying every day. Lovely bright, breezy day today and of course I had no washing so I washed the throws that we use on an evening when its a bit chilly and we are watching telly.
I am itching to get on and tidy the garden a bit, its looking very drab and untidy. Might put that on my to do list for next week if the weather is OK.0 -
Morning Messies!
These early mornings are taxing my enthusiasm! I came in after a long-day yesterday & with another today I couldn`t be bothered to even nag DS. Kitchen trashed. It`ll keep till tonight, tackle it tomorrow, or maybe sleep all day - dunno yet.
Have a nice weekend all. x0
