My home is a mess

Hello everyone, I hope you're all having a good weekend so far!
Had a bit of a disaster this morning... my mobile phone popped out of my pocket and fell down the toilet. OH got it for me for Christmas so neither of us are too chuffed! It's in the airing cupboard in a tub of rice, but I've got my doubts about whether it will work or not. Slightly gutted as he paid for it sim-free and we don't have mobile insurace.
On a plus side we've done lots of housework today, OH has 'helped'. Although that tends to mean he leaves everything until he sees something that really needs dong then gets in a grump that he has to do it!
Bed is changed, sheets are washed and out (optimistic!), kitchen is cleaned and tidy and bathroom has had a good clean.0 -

If you are lucky it might still work. I did the same with mine and took the battery and sim out and dried it all out in the airing cupboard and once completely dry it worked again.0 -
Hi all:j
Been poorly for a couple fo days so very little de-messying done at Sasha Nut Towers:D However, feeling better today & have done a bit in bedroom - keep moving stuff across to room of doom, so that One Day we will just have the one room upstairs that is full of carp:rotfl:Dh has done a few more bits in the 'office' - need to check what he is chucking out however, in case it is vital stuff - has been known:eek:
Talking of vital stuff, DD had her purse nicked on a night out last weekend. No money in it:rotfl:but lost her bank card & prov d licence. Ordered new card - than realised she needed ID to go out so started the great 'WHERE is my passport????' hunt- bearing in mind she is off on a 2-week hol from 14th Feb........have to say this is a scenario that has happened before. Eventually DH found it - as he did the last time - but only after she made an emergency appt & plans to visit passport office.....so from being 'moderately tidy' her room now has the resemblance of a tip:mad: Although she did say - well I found XYZ when I was looking - I didn't even realise XYZ was lost:T
Happy de-messying all, now off to prep some healthy Indian food, so we don't phone the takeway as DD did last week when she was MEANT to be cooking:eek:New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -
Hi messies, just popping in to report - my usual term time zombie state has taken hold and I'm only just keeping up with basic stuff, let alone washing etc.
The broadband engineer is coming on Thursday and I need to try to make my house look like a normal person lives here instead of a mad old bat with a fondness for crickets (which have now all died of cricket old age, sadly) and an aversion to housework. Or putting things away for that matter.
And I have no sense of interior design either, so while I am comfortable with my messy and ill-designed home with mismatched furniture and scruffy decor I am also very conscious of how it might look to an outsider
Oh well, I will have to just get over it, I'll do a bit of tidying tomorrow and try to make it look reasonable.
I've made some inroads into the washing mountain, at least.
Stay well all, and take care!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
Weight loss journey started January 2015-32lbs0 -
Iv been really productive in the housework department today. Iv done all the washing, cleaned the kitchen scrubbed, livingroom cleaned and hall.
Iv got stacks of clean washing to put away. I dont mind washing its the sorting and putting away I hate.
On the pet hair theme I use one of those rubber mops which helps .
The plastering has still not started due to the weather which is just as well as oh thinks all he has to do is wack it off and leave the rubble to me. I keep looking at the mess and woundering where to start,so I dont. Looks great when the doors shut,lol.0 -
Morning Messies!
Beckyy - be patient with the mobile- DS did the same thing and his took a while to dry out properly.
Sashanut - Glad you`re starting to feel better, despite the nightmare of your DS`s Lost, Stolen or Strayed items!
Re filling up the room of Doom - Beware! I`ve been doing this for years, and it`s only very recently that I`ve been dealing with the consequences. I`ve realised that I`ve made myself far more hard work in the long run.
JPS - I met some `Normal` folks once, but I didn`t like them! (and they probably didn`t like crickets)
Snookey, I have a rubber broom and a rubber hand-brush (great for stairs- not that it`s used very often!!) I`d be inclined to keep the door shut for as long as possible until plastering-time at least!
Messy Update -
LR - was doing ok, but last night it seems to have reached Critical Mass...DS stayed up late, and partook of my HM broccoli & stilton soup - one of the wooly rugs did too...and he appears to have attempted to mop up spillage with a clean tea towel.
The sofa has disappeared under a scattering of his & DGD`s clothes & bags, and the sun is shining directly on to the mantelpiece (the one I`ve been bragging about keeping clear since end of last year) highlighting a thick layer of dust.
KITCHEN- amazing how far a bit of HM soup can go when DS is helping himself. There are dried splodges all over the place, and he`s refilled the sugar canister and spilled some. The cat was also up to no good last night, Daftie-dog`s biscuit bag is on it`s side & some biscuits scattered on the floor (she does that sometimes, gets her head inside & scratches the biscuits out as if she`s tunnelling!)
DGD was up first, and has breakfasted - a scattering of grated cheese, 2 buttery knives and tomato pips everywhere... it almost feels like there`s a conspiracy here...0 -
Further Messy Update -
Kitchen worktops no longer look like a chimpanzee`s attempt at Modern Art.
Floor still needs henrying & mopping, but sink & worktops ok.
Soupy teatowel relegated to floor cloth!
LR soupy woolly rug shaken outside & waiting to go in WM, after I`ve done a load of smalls (have to do it this way around as I always feel the smalls might get hairy from rug residues!)
Clean rug brought in from caravan of Doom ready to replace the one going in WM.
DGD sent upstairs to shower/shampoo etc before her mum comes to collect her.
DS still asleep (trashing the place must`ve tired him out, poor thing!) & OH busy upstairs rummaging in some books...
SO - clear run down here to henry & mop!0 -
I NEED CAFFEINE NOW!!!
LR floor henry`d & mopped, clean rug down to replace soupy one.
Clean bed down for Daftie-dog as current one smelled very doggy.
Kitchen floor Henry`d & mopped.
WM 1 load smalls done & hung on peg-chandelier thingy (DGD`s work)
Woolly rug now in WM, will hang up in DGD`s doorway when she`s gone home.
Daftie-dog`s bed & cushion queueing near WM to go in next.
(LR mantelpiece not dusted, but the sun has moved now....)
DGD all clean & brushed/de-dagged! (ouch!)
Bins out for tomorrow (OH did that, but I haven`t quite filled it yet - caffeine break over, going on a ten-minute trash-trawl upstairs!)
Also must bring down bag of `stuff` for DGD`s mama from recent sorting efforts.
Sofa half clear now will do the rest later then call it a day - apart from doing a fire & bothering a duck & veg for tonight...it`s not 3.30 yet, the day is young (even if I am not)0 -
I think the carpets have fleas!!!:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
I am mortified.
and my feet and ankles have many itchy bites.
The dogs are advocated each month REGULARLY.
I do not understand.
The only change was new make of hay for the piggies. And I woke up with the bites last weekend. Piggies are upstairs.
I am going to hoover like mad.
Any other suggestions?
xxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
My house is a mess - can i join please?
Buffy, I have been battling fleas this year. I treat my cats monthly and comb them weekly, but every time I think I've sorted it they come back.
I'm moving house soon so will give both old and new houses a full spray in the hope that all the little biters will bite the dust.
Have you combed the dogs to see if the fleas are on them or the piggies?
It may have just been in the hay and you were unlucky.0
