Afternoon Messies, ansd welcome, Beckyy. I hope we can encourage you a bit, but without making you feel guilty.

Good to see you back again, WFF and alec e.

It's good to hear you enthusiastic about another quilt, alec e. Can I ask, what did you get for your mum in the end, when you dumped the quilt idea? Those little bits and pieces take up a remarkable amount of space and, in an odd way, time, too, as they just get in the way.

I'm glad I gave you a little push, Emms, but I don't want you getting 'shifty'. Can't have shifty nurses about, you know! ;)

As for FB and twitter, never done twitter. Although I do call into FB a couple of times a day, I'm a member of a small private forum, all of us with a common love of wildlife. all of us have met at least some of the other members, so it's genuine friendship. FB is just plain odd!

Have vacuumed through the house today, although I did worry briefly when the vac stopped working. Think I must have pulled on the plug, as it was all ok after I gave the plug a kicking.
  • Hi all, welcome along Becky - I can relate to the dog hairs thing, dont they get everywhere? You hoover them up, turn around and find more where you have just been.

I have been a busy little bee today, spent a bit of time removing clothes from the bedroom floor back to their proper places. Changed some bedding, cleaned the bathroom, made a hotpot for tea and sorted two bags for the charity shop. Just been out with the dog for an hour and my face is frozen!

Off to take some ebay parcels to the post office now and will call in at the charity shop. Then I need to get some serious hoovering done when I come back.

Oh and I have done a bit of paperwork for my voluntary job which has been preying on my mind for a while so its nice to tick that off my list.

Emms, just listening to you talk about your job makes me feel exhausted! Ah well, better get a move on.

    Thank you for the welcomes!

The dishes are washed and away, the dogs bed has been washed and dried, hallway and kitchen floors have been swept, living room hoovered and the TV stand has been dusted.

The dog hairs are a nightmare, ours is casting at the minute and it seems to be everywhere. It also doesn't help that he's a slobbery dog and everytime he shakes his head he sends slobber flying through the air, I'm forever finding it on the walls

    Hi Bearcub,

After ditching the quilt idea I ended up buying my mum a silver glittery shrug/cardigan thing. Dh chose it and she flipping loves it. Thanks for asking. You're right about them getting in the way even though they're kind of stored. It drives me mad to find pegs or curtain hooks all the time now they're all in one place I'll know where to put them away instead of thinking the stash and dash location is the way forward.

Beckyy, ikwym about the fur, my big grey bunny is firing fur out like darts at the minute, it's everywhere!
  • Morning Messies!
Becky, welcome to the Messy thread. I know what you mean about `almost not seeing` stuff that needs doing. AND the dog-hair thing too, though no chance here of not seeing that! Downstairs is a lot easier since we got rid of carpet & got laminate & washable/shakeable rugs, but hairs still collect in corners in huge dust-buffaloes!!
It does help to post your Messy moans and achievements here, I`ve done much better since I joined the thread but still a long way to go!

YL, I`ve got some current paperwork preying on my mind too at the moment, well done getting yours out of the way. I hate form-filling, though work involves a huge amount, it`s different somehow when it`s your own! I`ll deal with it this weekend, before I go back to work.

Alec E - I`m ok with pegs, they never get further than the kitchen, but my `little bits` nightmare is Small Electronic Related Tat - DS takes all sorts to bits and leaves stuff everywhere. LR mantelpiece used to be one of the worst spots, but I`ve managed to keep it clear since before Christmas.

Bearcub...confession time - I did START wiping down in the kitchen, but didn`t get very far as my head was still in the spare room of Doom, so I put away the Stardrops and gave in to the call of the great Upstairs.

The WM & fridge are like new, but the rest got left unwiped.
However - I have made so much progress it was worth it...
One dead laundry basket, full of `kipple`, sorted, nearly all to fling!
One dead stereo (large, plus speakers)- DS has taken it into his room to dissect for `bits`. Deep Speech with DS re piles of his stuff in spare room, and for once not turning into a row!
`Permission` to get rid of a huge stack of video tapes to 2nd-hand shop that buys.
I moved a fruitbox of videos off the top of a stack of boxes which I`d thought were DS`s, and found the 2 boxes underneath weren`t his stuff, but `mine` - he`d emptied a small tatty dresser in his room I`d agreed to get rid of a couple of years ago, and the contents he`d put in 2 boxes and stashed upstairs, so I`d assumed it was his stuff. Now I can fling/CS the contents, that`s a lot of space freed up.
I`ve broken through to the far corner of the room, and the space in front of the radiator is clear. Go me!!
No prizes for guessing what I`m doing today then. x
  • Hi all!

Welcome Beckyy!! I hate housework, but have a mother that is always keeping things spick and span, i think thats why i'm rubbish at housework cos mine will never be up to her standard!! haha!! (thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it;))!

Farm Assurance man arrived on Wednesday, spent 2 hours in the office and another hour outside checking the cattle housing and milking facilities! I'm pleased to say we passed with flying colours!!! :j:j:j Mr Farmer is so much happier now as it's been such a stressful time!!

Not done much de-messying this week, i'm trying to get the washing done, i've just lit the woodburner in the living room to get some clothes dry on the airer. It's snowing here at the moment, so the dogs and mr farmer keep popping into the kitchen to get warmed, i just wish they would dry their feet first!!!!! Good job i'm not houseproud!! haha!!

    Hope everyone is ok!!

    Jxxx
    It's a farmers life for me......:j

    Hi everyone,

I was going to say I haven't done anything today but thinking about it I have, it's all just the normal unexciting stuff - recycling, cleaning the rabbit pen, ironing, pressing quilt blocks, dealing with laundry and putting bits and bobs away as I notice them. I want to put up another couple of hooks in the kitchen but don't want to freeze going into the garage so that might not happen today.

    Have a good day.

    Afternoon Messies.

Emms, obviously upstairs was the right place to be, then, if it dragged you away from cleaning the kitchen. You've found somewhere that still takes video tapes? Wish I could find somehwere like that, as we have quite a few!

Alec e, how like a mum to like the alternative so much, especially when chosen by your OH. Most of the time, I think we do some de-messying without even realising it.

Well done, Mr and Mrs farmer! Always a relief to get the inspection over and done with. And you've had more snow? Whereabouts are you, if you don't mind me asking?

We've had no snow since last Saturday and, since Thursday's rain, all traces of the white stuff are now gone, except some very small patches on the tops of the downs. The people who play golf up there must be mad!

Just a WM load done today, plus cleaning of the bathroom. although the wash didn't seem a lot in bulk, it's mostly small bits, like undies and socks, and I don't seem to have enough space on the drier. ah, well, will find a way somehow. I'm just off to try and remove limescale build up from the shower tray, before it builds up to irremovable proportions. ;)
  • Hi everyone

Another busy day. Have washed the utility room and kitchen floor. Properly. So I have actually moved things and washed underneath rather than just mopping around the middle of the floor!

Mind you as FW says by the time it gets to lunchtime tomorrow the floor will be filthy again. The snow just makes everything so messy.

Changed both kids beds, sheets over airer, walked the dog and threw out some rubbish out of the utility room cupboard.

Ah and videos. I tried to sell mine at a car boot sale but failed, so they all went in the recycling skip.

Glad the inspection went well FW. Of to try and get the fire going, it doesnt seem to want to light for some reason.
  • Hi Messies!
FW, I`m glad for you & Mr Farmer that the inspection went so well and it`s out of the way now till next time.
Re video tapes - our local Barnardo`s CS takes them, as do a few other Cs`s in town.
I`m taking ours to the 2nd hand shop though because I buy audio tape `books` there, which are getting quite hard to find, and I want him to stay in business!! (He also buys/sells old vinyl, CDs &DVDs. Last time I was in there having a rummage was last half-term, I got chatting with a lass with 3 small kiddies who`d bought a stack of children`s vids for them, and said she`d be lost if he ever closed down!)

Yesterday was a bit of a disaster - attempted to take stuff to skip early afternoon, but the car was dead - well, the battery was. Local garage sent chap here to get me started, but checked the battery with computer thingy and said it wasn`t holding the charge, wouldn`t re-start if I switched off, so I ended up having to have a new battery. Then it started snowing heavily. All very counter-productive!

Today rather better, got to skips despite lingering snow, (side roads etc worse as usual, but no more coming down) then farm shop, then helped OH do the RSPB garden birdwatch count (which would be a lot easier if they`d keep still!!!) so not much more de-messying done. I`ve sorted through a box of old ornaments from spare room of Doom, slung broken or damaged stuff, and now have a little heap of stuff to wash & donate to CS. DGD has volunteered for this `special` washing up (I think she`s just hoping to salvage something to keep!)

Rain & wind forecast for later, so next job is empty the ashes ready to get fire going later, before it gets windy!
Hope you`re all having a nice weekend, de-messying or not. x
