My home is a mess

Hi all
Oh Sonastin whats happened to the heating?! You are really going to miss it I bet, hope it gets sorted soon.
Snookey, my dog nearly pulled me over yesterday in the ice. Then I remembered watching one of those ambulance rescue programs where this lady fell and broke her leg and had to lie in the snow for ages. I kept thinking about it for the rest of the walk! Must remember to stick my mobile in my pocket in future, I can walk miles around here and not see anyone.
Emm, have you been busier than usual at the hospital then? Cant remember what sort of ward you work on but I imagine there are lots more admissions when the weather is like this. Hope its not too frantic.
Any FW, you cant beat a bit of soup - DS1 hates it in any form so thats why I dont make it as often as I should. He is quite happy with a jacket spud instead so I should make more of an effort.
Tired tonight. Off to get my pjs on I think. Not much de-messying done but OH has been painting upstairs so its an excuse to leave it! Work tomorrow morning then I need to have a productive afternoon.0 -
Hello Messies
Sorry for being MIA lately. I've started volunteering at British Heart Foundation! (yay!, I'm out of the flat!) three days a week. But I've managed to put three loads of washes on all week, so that's basically all our clothes done. I've now just got to clear a space for my desk as i'm going to start sewing my cards again for wedding and birthday invotations (also thinking of making my own buissness cards too) idea maybe?
Just hoovered my mum's frontroom but the hoover's given up sucking:rotfl:so i gave up. Is it me or is it easier cleaning someone elses house than your own?

Bearcub, I think 'kipple' came from the hoarding thread, it's an inspired word, should be in the Oxford English Dictionary...Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0

Hi Messies!
Bearcub, When I read your post about not liking stews I thought `weird` but then I thought...I can remember certain stews as a child, finding a lump of gristle then not wanting to eat anymore of the stuff! (that was school dinner stews).
I`m doing a thawed out piece of brisket today, in the pseudo le creusot casserole. I`ve left the meat whole, but chucked all the veg in with it like a stew. It`s in the oven now, so will be tender by tonight.
McCulloch, I like the word `kipple` too. Also, I love it when my DS goes to stay at his GF`s!!
Snookey, glad you didn`t hurt yourself much when you fell. I broke my wrist years ago when pulled by a dog in icy conditions. I`ve never been very good at staying upright on ice, even as a child! Another time putting last-minute stuff in the bin I slipped and slid gracefully under the back of the bin lorry, had to be hauled out by the laughing bin-men. Very infra-dig!
HopefulMS, you`re right, it`s easier tackling other folks` mess than your own sometimes. Maybe it`s because we feel more dismayed by our own mess...
We`ve had more snow here overnight - so they got that wrong! I had been thinking of tackling a bit of caravan of Doom tetris, but it`s cold, and I`d be tramping snow or slush in & out, so change of plan. I shall do a bit more sorting upstairs instead.
Drags self away to find the timer...0 -
Afternoon Messies.
HopefulMS, great news about the job at the Heart foundation - I hope you enjoy it!
Emms, my dislike of stew has nothing to do with gristle and suchlike; I just can't seem to swallow very well-cooked beef or lamb. In fact, I don't like anything that is 'cooked to death' - really don't like my veg really soft, either. It always seems as if they have no taste of their own anymore, although the gravy is fantastic! My dad was the same with stew, so Mum had to make a stew for her and my sister, and cook meat and veg separately for me and Dad, poor lady. I felt so guilty when I eventually realised what a struggle Mum had to put decent food on the table at all! I love brisket, but slow roasted - more flavour in that cut of meat than most of the lean stuff you get in supermarkets.
Roads here are flooded in places after all-night rain, although there was still a little bit of snow on the tops of the downs this morning. It's just started raining again.
Have just given the kitchen a good clean, while OH is at the dentist. He cooks, and he cleans up - the latter to a certain extent. It's not that he doesn't bother to clean up properly, but that, without his glasses, he can't actually see that the work surface still has splashes on it. Anyway, all work surfaces, the hob, and the cupboard dooors have a had a good wash down. Oh, and some of the walls, too, especially by the cooker.0 -
Yes!! Another Mt T shopping bag full of tatty old magazines, and half a bag of stuff for CS. I ignored the timer & carried on. Just having a quick break.
YL, I just realised I`d missed replying to you - the hospital is always busier in winter, not just when it`s snowy/icy, but A&E is busier then! I don`t know how it is there this week, as I`m on annual leave (lovely timing!) but the usual thing is EVERY type of ward gets filled - any empty bed can be commandeered by the clinical site managers if needs be They move patients (and staff too) so the more `stable` but not ready for discharge are farmed out to `spare` beds, and even postpone planned admissions, so the acutely ill can be nursed in the most appropriate wards. It`s a kind of `people tetris`, but it`s better than turning patients away.
Right, off upstairs again....0 -
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking again. I was wondering Rosie what was the kindle book called?Hi Messies, one and all!
I haven't posted for a while as I haven't had much time but have been lurking.
I downloaded a free book on my kindle about de-cluttering and it was totally different than other ones I've read before. The usual ones just tell you the usual stuff about one box to keep, one to chuck, one for charity etc etc.
WFF xI love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters0 -
Hi everyone, hope you're all ok.
I've been dealing with all those little bitty bits of stuff that I never get round to - collecting up all the dozens of curtain hooks that seem to be at the bottom of every box, pot tub in the place, found a house for lightbulbs and other household bits like that. Framed and hung some pictures, put some hooks up ho hang things that are always in the way like the small laundry basket. That kind of thing. It's made so much difference I can hardly believe it.
Getting on with my new quilt which has been great during the cold weather. The best thing I decluttered recently are twitter and facebook, sooooo peaceful now. Have a good day everyone0 -
Morning Messies!
WFF, nice to hear from you again, hope all`s well with you. x
Alec E - Well done on dumping the twitter & facebook. I`ve never bothered at all with either, but lately quite a lot of my friends & colleagues have dumped these, especially the latter, and now wonder why they ever bothered there in the first place, and how they ever found the time!
Bearcub - your kitchen cleaning has made me feel a bit shifty.... I think I`ll take a break from the great Upstairs, and have a good wipe-down in the kitchen instead!0 -
Oh goodness, I need this thread! Can I join please?
My terrible at housework. My mum never really bothered, so I grew up being not used to it and now almost don't see things that need doing.
I start work in a couple of hours and still have last nights dishes to do, piles of washing everywhere and enough dog hair on the carpet to knit a jumper!0
