  • Hi everyone!

Well, it's Monday morning AGAIN!!!! Very windy outside so i'm going to bake this morning (keep warm beside the oven! and then this afternoon i'm going to hoover downstairs and hopefully i might even drag the hoover upstairs too! Didn't get much done last week, i had to go to the docs and got referrred to the hospital for a mammogram and other tests  all in the space of 3 days!! So i wasn't really in the mood for demessying at all last week! I got my results the same day and everything is fine, just a very worrying few days!!

So, I'm determined to make up for lost time and get cracking this week!!

    Hope everyone is ok!!

    Today:

Dust son's (7 y.o.) bedroom. This unfortunately will involve at least an hour's tidying before I can actually dust! He has too many toys (my fault!).

Dust hall. Won't take long, hall is the size of a postage stamp

    Take out the recycling.

Nice and sunny here, so would like to get into the garden and dig in some horse poo into the veg patch.

Hi Lavender Rose, good to have you here!

Today I'm having a ten minute tidy in each room. We were in and out all weekend so there was lots of dumping and stash-and-dash so I'll be dealing with all that stuff today. I've clean the kitchen worktops and cupboard fronts, put a load of laundry on, changed the sheets and tidied the porch cupboard and dining area.

I'm sure no-one will remember but ages ago I mentioned that I wanted a hot water bottle solution for my bunnies. I am very happy to say when we were out and about this week I bought one of those old earthenware hot water bottles, well it's a footwarmer which is even better as it has a flat bottom so the buns can't roll it around too much. It wasn't cheap but it only cost the same as a snugglesafe so I'm happy. And can you believe it I've been after one for yonks then we saw 4 in the space of 2 shops! Amazing.,

    Have a good day.

One day, i'll get to doing the cleaning/demessying of a weekend that I plan to do. Come Friday, all manner of big plans on what I'm going to get done. By Monday, not one jot of it finished. I know there is such a thing as weekday evenings, but who wants to waste those cleaning?!

This weekend I got as far as spraying the mould remover in the shower cubicle which is the start of my bathroom-cleaning routine. Then OH arrived home so I had to stop that so that we could play "hunt the mystery central heating leak" - our new boiler has been losing over a bar of pressure on a daily basis, sometimes several times a day since we installed it. Gas man says it has to be a leak in the plumbing so OH had to get under the floor to search for it. So Sunday basically looked like this...

Move everything out of cupboard under stairs and hall way & lift floorboards. OH drops down through cupboard hole and crawls around under kitchen, hallway, new LR looking for leak -dry as a bone. Put back floorboards and stuff that belongs in cupboard under stairs.

Move everything from one side of study-lounge, pull back carpet, lift floorboards & check radiator pipes -dry as a bone. Put back as was.

Clear utility room floor, peel back vinyl, lift floor, check pipes - dry as a bone. Put back as was.

Move sofa and everything on other side of study-lounge. Peel back carpet. Check connection to bedroom rad. Dry as a bone. Realise carpet needs pulling back further to access other connection to bedroom rad. Move book case - spot the damp on the wall, mouldy carpet, rotten book case and source of the musty smell in that room  (not related to plumbing leak sadly ) dump contents of bookcase on bed, break up book case and put in trailer to take to tip, check rad valve - dry as a bone.

Clean carpet & walls with mild bleach solution. Replace carpet so that sofa can go back but keep corner lifted to dry floor boards. Sort out storage room, locate empty plastic crates, rehome contents of book case in newly organised store room. Except OH's tool catalogues which now live in the bedroom. But my recipe books were stuffed in the box until I rescued them

So we now have 1) a much more organised store room, 2) a decluttered cupboard under the stairs, 3) a cleaner and tidier lounge :T and, on the downside 4) a mystery leak in the central heating system which still can't be traced :(

Oh, and a bathroom that still hasn't been cleaned
  • I have just finished dusting my son's bedroom....it looks sooooo much nicer. Clean and tidy (although still too many toys). I also managed to pop into the garden and manure the patch that will have courgettes and pumpkins in this year. Only the hall to dust and my chores are done for today, apart from the usual cooking/washing up that my OH does help with. Feeling smug :)

    Afternoon Messies.

Sonastin, what a huge pain about your GCH, and even more annoying when you can't find a leak! And you were so looking forward to it. I assume the gas engineer has looked at the boiler, and isn't just assuming that it's a leak elsewhere?

FW, it sounds all a bit frantic and scary, but I hope all turns out ok for you. <hugs>

What a good solution to the bunny warming system, alec e! Was it a case of seeing the bottle, and realising there and then that it would be ideal?

Lavender rose, great stuff, and I'd like to think that this thread helped you, but maybe, in your head, you were halfway there, anyway.

Is it a care package you're trying to arrange, sashanut, because I know that can be a nightmare? I don't knw how elderly people, who have no family to help, cope with it all. Yes, we had more than a few problems with our DD2 or, rather, she had the problems, and we had the knock-on effects. Enjoy the epace when yours goes on holiday!

No de-messying done here yet, although I did sort and throw out a lot of paper before bed last night. Why had I kept minutes and agendas from 2 years of meetings??!!

Yikes, hope you can trace the source of the leak soon, but at least you have the bonus of a tidying session as you hunt for it.

I had it in my mind that an old fashioned hot water bottle would be better than any other option, like buying a microwave to heat a pad up! But when we saw this one with a flat bottom we thought "aha!" The buns don't really know what it's for yet though, the white one keeps licking it and the grey one has ignored it but we'll see. If they don't get any benefit from it then I'll use it to keep myself warm.

Well done for dealing with the paper, it's my least favourite thing to deal with. Other than cleaning the shower that is.

In good OS style, I always keep a pile of paper by the computer, for scribbling notes on, but those that I've scribbled on tend to stick around for a while. Then I was trying to find the minutes from a meeting last month in a file, and came across all those that I threw away - but couldn't find the ones I wanted, sadly.

I've cleaned the bathroom and, having just been into the kitchen to fetch a drink, I've realised that the work surfaces are really dirty. So, will be seeing tto those about now!

    Hi all:j
Did get a bit of work done today - not as much as I'd have liked but heyho every little helps:D Cleared out a large bag i found in our bedroom, clearly put there on a long-ago stash & dash......lots of junk but one or two useful things too. Swept & mopped kitchen floor, all in vain as 3 large hairy dirty dogs have to come in & it looks as if it's never been done .....ah well..
Also cleared lower landing a bit, DH has added to the clutter by finding some boxes in the garage & brought inside, 'there might be something I need in them' he says, for now they are cluttering up the back hall dowstairs..

Bearcub - yes it is to do with his care package, well finances really as I deal with all his accounts - I live 200 miles away so online is how I do it. Think I have all the bits of paper assembled now, will send off tomorrow & they can contact me if they need to.

DD has gone to a gig & they have a hotel booked so won't see her till tomorrow - then she's off out with another friend to eat & DH has been asked to chair a meeting as someone is ill, so I might have some precious time on my own

And with that happy thought, I can now have a bath as DD isn't here to have used every drop of hot water - :T:T:T:T
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear

Well once again, the heating is behaving itself! At least the house is warm. The gas engineer is a family friend so advising by phone on all the things we can test ourselves before he has to come out and charge us for the work. Last test involves the condensate/overflow pipe discharging into a bucket, which means that it gives a little trickle every now and then anyway. OH has decided its like an old man with prostate trouble... and now its got shy bladder syndrome too - it won't "wee"! all its water out while we're watching it :rotfl:

Bathroom still not cleaned. I REALLY need to get on and do that. Far too late now but maybe when I get home from work tomorrow. That room really is my nemesis when it comes to keeping on top of the cleaning.

Sasha - enjoy the time on your own. I'm very jealous. OH is more of a home body than me so rarely goes out without me. I never get a night in on my own. Much as I love him, one night I'd like to watch my TV without him commenting on how rubbish it is... I know its rubbish but that's why I like it!
