My home is a mess

JPS - I'd bet money on the fact that he really has seen worse... unless CH4 are coming to make a documentary about you soon :rotfl: The fact that you can see how "bad" it is and care puts you a million miles in front of those who don't even realise that cleaning, or even basic hygiene, is a requirement (no matter how infrequently we all do it
)
Central heating is still behaving itself. On the one hand, I want it to fail so we can find the fault. On the other hand, I want to believe its fixed. We'll give it another week of "weeing" into the bucket and then reconnect it to the drain and keep our fingers crossed!
Another reason to celebrate... OH loaded the dishwasher last night without and sort of prompting or hinting :j
I still haven't cleaned the bathroom though0 -
Managed to clean the bathroom today after getting back from school trip. Normally I would dread this, but as it was cleaned thoroughly last week, it did not take long. I really hope I can keep this up. It's when work starts to get busy and the stress/anxiety starts that the housework doesn't get done.0

I've come to a halt.
I have no idea what to do today, although I will refuse all kind offers for me to come round and do your housework! I think I might do something to do with my wardrobe, I need some new shoes but I need to figure out what would be the best use of my cash. Sounds dull but at least I'll be near my bed if I want to have a snooze.
Have a good day one and all.0 -
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say how amazing this thread is and how much it's motivated me to get my act in gear. I work full time and used to spend my weekends stressed out, worrying about all the housework that needed to be done, rather than looking forward to a lovely two day break from work. Hubby is great and does his share, even so, the housework mountain always seemed daunting on a Friday evening!
However, since lurking on here for a while I came up with a wee plan - I have a quick wash setting on my dishwasher - 29 minutes, which is more than enough for our dishes day to day. I decided that, during the week, I would allocate this time to deal with something in the house that needed to be done. It's only half an hour so doesn't feel like an age. Hubby puts the dishes away at the end of the cycle and makes us both a cuppa and little by little we are getting there! Last weekend, all that was needed was the bedding to be changed and washed and a quick hoover round. What a difference it made to my enjoyment of the weekend. I know the thought of housework during a long working week isn't for everyone (and certainly wasn't for me!) but, by having that time limit, it really made a difference to the way I approached things and I am now looking forward to my weekends instead of dreading them. A big thanks to you all for giving me the motivation and ideas and making me realise I'm not alone!!0 -
Hi Messies - sorry I`ve been MIA but have been quite severely laid-up since Sunday, and it`s been a bit scarey, even thought I`d be an ambulance jobbie Sunday night! Monday didn`t seem quite as bad so thought it was going off, Tuesday still the same so went to GP (he`s very good, fair do`s, though getting in & out of the car is a right performance!)
He said I have an inflamed large bowel (? something I`ve ingested?) plus a urine infection.., but waiting test results today. All I know is that I feel like a heavily pregnant elephant, like my guts have been trampled by a carthorse, and have back & hip ache from walking like a duck as my centre of gravity has been shifted about due to pain & swollen-ness, and being like a barrage balloon. As GP is satisfied that there isn`t a blockage in the system he`s not putting me in hospital (phew!)
I`m really fed up with this now.
House is a mess but I just don`t care, I`m a mess too!
OH has done washing up & some cooking under instruction, and as HE`S done that DS isn`t trashing the kitchen! They`ve both been really trying to help, and I`ve been a grumpy old mare.
The computer has been poorly too, but I wasn`t bothered as I couldn`t sit comfortably to use it till now. DS has done a temporary fix.
Sorry for the whinge, but I don`t respond well to not being able to put my own sock/shoes on!0 -
Yikes, poor you, sounds awful, as you say at least you're at home. Get well soon . Glad to hear everyone's trying their best to look after you.0

Cleaned microwave.
Cleaned bathroom floor
Went to Tesco for a few bits I can't get in Aldi (mustard powder, gravy browning, crumble mix, Branston Beans:D)
Chicken casserole in slow cooker
Spent too much time on here
Looking forward to spending a quiet evening finishing off a Miss Marple (book that is!)0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Sorry to hear you've been (and still are) poorly, Emms. <Hugs> I can imagine your frustration at feeling so helpless, especially when you're used to helping others. Such good news that there's not blockage, as there's a lady on another forum who was rushed into hospital last weekend with a blockage in her intestines. She's now home but, unike your OH, her OH does his best not to help out at all! Get well, very soon, but take it easy while you may.
Sandyann, good to see you in here, and welcome. I thik it's a case of finding what works for you, when it comes to de-messying. And you seem to have found your method of keeping things relatively under control. :T
Feeling off-colour, Alec e, or just 'off'?
I'm feeling quite pleased with myself. I've had a couple of items of clothing that have needed sewing for a number of weeks. This morning, when we left the livery yard, I told OH that the first thing I was going to do when I got home was the sewing. Because I'd told him, although he'd probably forgotten all about it before we got in the car, I actually did what I planned to do. Items for the rag bag are gradually being washed (one item per wash), so the washing basket is emptying. While OH was out digging the border where we'd had a hedge removed (bless him, wet clay is exhausting to dig!), the cats were out with him, so I was able to vacuum through the house, including the conservatory, where OH dropped a tub full of guinea pig food last week. He'd swept up all that was easy to get to, but left all that had 'exploded' into hidden corners. All cleared up now, plus other items dumped out there, have been either put away or tidied up. Also took Mum down to the bank in the village, as she'd received a letter, apparently from the bank's HO, that seemed as if it could be a scam. Turned out it wasn't. The weather's been good enough today to get out in the garden and take a few photos of flowers!:)
Who was the lady who was giving her garden a re-make? Can't remember, her name, but I'm sure she's not been in here recently.0 -
Good work bearcub! Sounds like a productive day. It's so nice to have weather good enough to get outside for a little bit isn't it? It was gorgeous here yesterday and I managed to dry some laundry outside for the first time in ages.
I'm not off colour, just a bit tired, haven't been sleeping well which is probably what's causing it. I motivated myself to do 30 minutes on my exercise bike which meant I had to have a shower, which lead to cleaning the bath which lead to tidying the bathroom, putting some laundry away, collecting up the dirty laundry, jiggling my wardrobe and a few other bits so that's a positive.0 -
It would have been good if I'd spell checked it all before I posted. <rolls eyes>
I sympathise, Alec e. I can sleep wonderfully for two nights then, for absolutely no reason, I have three lousy nights. Seems no rhyme or reason to it. As you say, positives in the chain effect of one action, once you get started. :T0
