My home is a mess

DonnaJT - They`s not Triplets, They`s QUINS _ my DS is the 4th in this sad series!
Buffy -Mouldiness is Nature`s way of helping us to chuck out `stuff`!!
Messies, we just got home from pub, I made a fire, and checked in here - and OH has declared he has something to declare here, to all my Messy Friends...I read him bits of your posts, so he`s not a stranger...
Taking `dictation`...here goes.
"Take heart - to find a house lived in by real people who care about the people who actually LIVE in the house, rather than the carpets/furniture etc, is a privilege beyond some understandings of what a HOME should be about.
I have quarters here for which I am responsible; dont go there, full of dust/books/bits & bobs that represent the accumulation of a lifetime, including a lifetime`s work and interests, involving many different subjects, much of which is ongoing. None of this sense of freedom and progress would be remotely possible were it not for a reasonable mutual capability to understand the difference between `Mess` and a truly `lived in` Home. This makes for a sense of deep appreciation, for without those allowances I would be, or be made to feel like, a trammelled actor in something that serves only the cleanest of carpets, the best of Other People`s expectations of what the "perfect" home should be like. I am therefore keen to encourage those who have `lived in` Homes not to feel discouraged but to realise what a wonderful environment they are providing for those who have the honour of being happy there."
WOW- Messies, he really meant all that. I hope OH `s message is as welcome & helpful to you as it was to me. Bless`im! I`m going to make him a nice supper now - but I`d be doing that anyway.0 -
Thanks to Mr Emm - what a lovely thing to say. I really like the bit about being a "tramelled actor", god forbid that any of us should feel like we couldn't relax in our own homes for fear of messing them up!
OH has finally tidied the lounge today :T I think it must be a miracle! Its still not quite perfect as we have bits and bobs and paperwork that simply don't have a home at the moment but it is such an improvement on how it has been. Started with him mending the bookcase and went on from there.
I on the other hand have had something of a disaster! We have vertical blinds for the lounge and bedroom windows, both of which have gone mouldy with the condensation. We took them down this morning and treated them with industrial stregth fungicide to kill the spores. This doesn't get rid of the mould marks though so once they'd been treated, I rinsed them off & stuck them in bleach. At least, I thought I'd rinsed them off - bleach reacted with whatever was left on the blinds and they've now turned brown  I left them in the bleach for a while, then rinsed that off and put them in fresh bleach and they are slowly going back to a lighter shade but it wasn't quite what was planned! Fingers crossed that they are usuable. Perhaps I should have gotten the message - mould is indeed natures way of helping us throw things out!
Off to make OH's dinner now as a thank you for tidying up :beer:0 -
Evening Messies.
Welcome, Loobylou2. I hope we can be of help and encouragement to you, after your really rotten times recently.
Well done, Buffy, for all that sorting. With all those CS bags, surely the loft must be almost finished? I'm intrigued to know what your plans are for the piggies.
Do you know, sonastin, until you said that about the siting of CSs, it had never occurred to me that most of our local CSs have no easy parking nearby - nearly all have double yellow lines outside. As far as I'm aware, none of our local ones collect, although I know a fair number of people who work in the hospice shop so, if need arose, I could probably find a kind soul to take them for me. As for your OH building a narrowboat while your house is only part-done
FA, I'm so glad you found your paperwork, but even more pleased for you that you've found your desk! :rotfl:
BB, it's so good that the medics have an idea of how to help you. As Emms says, though, it's so frustrating when it all takes so long!
Emms, that's a lovely message from your OH. Mine would totally agree. One of his favourite sayings is that our house is a home, and he hopes people come here to see us, not our house and, if they're very bothered about the state of the house, then they're probably not real friends anyway.
Sashanut, very naughty of your OH to behave that way. For all of you who have a OH who doesn't apologise, from experience, I can honestly say that my OH has rarely said sorry in 38 years of marriage, and he is the kindest and gentlest of men. He has occasionally shown that he's sorry, but actually saying the word seems to be next to impossible. Just recently, DD2 complained that her bf never says sorry, but I was able to say that it didn't mean that he wasn't, and men generally find it difficult to actually say the word. OH agreed. No, he's no angel, but he's a lot nicer person than I am.
Well, Sunday is the day of rest (just as well with the relatively busy week I've got coming up), so minimal de-messying today, but I've cleaned the bathroom and have a WM load being 'processed'. We took down all the decs yesterday (with 'help' from one of the cats), and put them away in the loft. Despite me checking a number of times that we had got everything, of course I still found sheets of snowflake stickers hiding under the cards I'd taken down. So, when we bring the sewing machine in from the conservatory to put it away, those snowflakes will go, too. Until then, they'll stay put.
My new computer monitor was delivered today - on a Sunday?! - when we were both out, and was left on a shoe rack in the porch with the door wide open, in full view of the road! Now, tbh, the porch door was probably left open when OH went out, but wouldn't sense tell most people to leave it behind the door, or at least flat on the floor, so it wasn't obvious to all and sundry? Just as well we live in a quiet cul-de-sac in a very low crime area.0 -
Hello.....
Well I've been AWOL for a few months....no real reason apart from having no demessying to report. And I still don't - but hopefully that'll change! Hope all old messies are well and had a lovely Christmas and New Year, and hello to all I haven't met yet
I'm hesitant to say 2013 will be the year I finally get my act - and therefore my life! - together, as there have been so many false dawns and brief spells of positivity in the past. But I've got a slightly new attitude to things now, so fingers crossed!
Love to all

Hi everyone, Hope you"ve all had a good day. I never thought I'd say it because I have quite a stressful job and am always glad of any time off I get but after the fortnight I've had at home over Christmas what with Floods, collapsed ceilings and sick children I was so relieved to be back at work today!!!!
Messie wise, I haven't had too bad a day. Yesterday I sorted several laundry baskets full of clothes out and reorganised DD2's drawers for her. My bedroom is still a mess but its not quite as big a mess as it was before and today before going to work and after remembering to make a packed lunch for myself in the interests of saving money, I put a load of washing on which I then put in the tumble drier as soon as I got home from work, I've also managed to obtain some sense of order in the kitchen although its still full of unpacked boxes and cleaned the bathroom since coming home from work tonight which is an achievement in itself because normally when I get home from work I'm far too tired to do anything!!!! Also when I got home I found that OH had relaid the living room carpet after the ceiling collapse even though the ceiling still needs to be painted so at least we are not walking on floorboards anymore. I feel quite positive tonight but then I've only been back at work for a day after a fortnight off so we'll see how long it takes before I'm an exhausted wreck again!!! Am going to listen to DD 2 read now. Night all and hope you all have a good day tomorrow.
Love
Looby xxxloobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0 -
Hi Cat, lovely to see you around and sounding happy! Keep us posted on how things are going.
And well said Mr Emm! I just wish I could be a bit more relaxed about the mess.
Well done buffy - 11 bags gone, wow thats impressive!
So today I was up at 7. Took the washing off the airer and finished it off in the tumbler, quick shower and dressed, had breakfast, tidied up a bit, took DS2 to school then the dog for a quick walk. Worked for 3 hrs then did an hour on hubbys paperwork. Walked the dog again, washed the car, hoovered and dusted the room, put another load of washing in, made a roast dinner, loaded the dishwasher and washed some pots up by hand. Then I folded the clothes out of the tumbler and put them away, put the wet washing over the airer and made everyone a brew. By which time its 7.30pm and I havent stopped.
Phew I think I have earned myself a soak in the bath and an early night! No work tomorrow but I have some more paperwork to get done so I need to concentrate on it. If you find me on here tomorrow morning tell me to get on with those accounts!!!0 -
Evening Messies.
It must be wonderful to have the carpet down again, Loobylou, and feel more homely. Keep your eyes downwards, rather than up, and you can pretend all is like home again. I must admit I did wonder about you sorting DD2's drawers for her :rotfl:, but it does sound as if you're making progress and, more important, you feel as if you're doing so.
Hello, YL. What a busy de-messier you've been. No doubt about it, you definitely deserve some 'me' time!
Chez bearcub, washing sorted, hob cleaned (how does OH make quite so much mess making soup?), porch, lounge and kitchen vacuumed. Large make-up purse in my bedside table washed out, as a powder compact disintegrated in it some time ago, and the mess has been gradually spreading.I'm gradually working my way through loads of magazines, and they're being filed away in a carrier bag for a friend. I still haven't installed my new monitor, and I don't think there's much hope of getting it done tomorrow - horses in the morning, fairtrade boxes back to friend's house, visit to hairdresser for hair cut' pick up Mum from same, meeting in the evening. Now we've returned a piece of furniture to the lounge from the bedroom (moved because of the Christmas tree), I can get to the drawer under the bed, and put some things away that are currently gathering dust on top of my wardrobe.

sashanut- I think your OH needs a smacked bum!! (I would've told him to s*d off but that's just me :rotfl:)
No de-messing round here (still sleeping!!) But i did go round to my mum's house to do a loft clear..and got a pram down to sell, and a Wooden Oak Cot (my was that heavy!!) too. OH seems to like his games more than the prospect of helping me De-mess, so i've kind of given up for now (How am i supposed to be motivated with OH sitting playing games all day?!)

Hi all:j
Great to see all messies returning - I thought I was the only messy one left:D
Progress today - hmm, not so good. Did go into room of doom & get another couple of sacks full for CS.
Have now learnt not to prevaricate; put item in sack; if in doubt close eyes, put item in sack, tie up, take to top of stairs. DO NOT open said sack ever again......8 sacks are now sitting in dowstairs hall, having finally been taken down there by DH. Another 2 to go, and the nice man from CS is coming either tomorrow or Wed to collect:T
And the other great bit is that I found the jumper that needed to go back - whew!! Ah - and DH also did some clearing.....he is ok-ish at clearing stuff - although never sorts it so who knows what he chucks, I darent think about it. But it doesn't get very far, ie, clears office but leaves piles of carp still inside office blocking door. They have been there for months.......today, he came & asked for a binbag, filled it & said binbag is now at the back door:eek: Can now see clear space to my left & should cold weather strike, we might even be able to feel heat from radiator as it is not blocked by piles of paper carp......I wonder what's wrong with him:rotfl:
Hopeful - I agree - and I did tell him off, believe me! But from years of experience I know there is no point arguing with him until he calms down, only then will he become rational:rotfl:
And how strange that we have managed to meet all these blokes who have been cut from the same cloth. Perhaps we have some kind of aura they connect with:rotfl:New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0
