My home is a mess

HopefulMS, I so remember that 'need' to sleep with depression - used to drive my OH mad, even though he tried not to show it. Well done on the bargain! DD1 brought some boots over with her for Christmas, that she bought online, but found they're too tight, and it'll cost her half their price to send them back. I was hoping they'd fit me, but they're tight on me, too. Such a shame.
I wish OH was like that (not showing his annoyance at my sleep) but he ends up shoving me once it hits 2pm (he's just not realised, if he doesnt let me sleep until i feel ready to wake and face the day, i'm going to be a very grumpy miss.:rotfl:) The boots are a little tight round mt little toe, But I'm hoping i can stretch them without any major warping lol, but if not- off to the sister they go :cool:1924 Sealed Pot Challenge 2013 Money at the moment-£64.30 :j:j

Hi Messies.
FS, Congratulations, hope you enjoy the new job!
YL - I hate unpacking - I find things never quite get put back where you used to find them...
HopefulMS - nice one on the boots.
Donnajt - where to start...?
That`s exactly how I feel too!
It doesn`t matter where I start, there`s `stuff` everywhere that I can start getting rid of! As long as I start SOMEWHERE, I reckon it`s impossible NOT to make some progress.
Yesterday I sorted and skipped another big bagfull of unwanted paper. Mostly printed handouts from long past study days, mostly out-of-date now anyway.
I also got rid of a huge pile of National Geographic mags, that was OH`s equivalent of my recipe mags - donated to a retired neighbour.
Also sorted a shopping bag full of DGD`s nice but outgrown kiddie books that she no longer wants to keep, these will go to DD`s next time I visit.
Today, so far, I`m sitting on my laurels thinking how much I got shifted yesterday, but I`m going to start again soon.
First, I`m going to go around and LOOK at where there are now visible bits of space after my recent efforts, and have a little gloat.(I need the carrot in front of me as well as the stick behind!)0 -
Ha ha. All this talk of cat hair. Took one of mine to the vets because she has started going bald! Vet reckons she's over grooming - quite common in cats, apparently! Well, my new miele vacuum was delivered yesterday, so when I can get up off the sofa I shall try it out...!
Went out for a drink with a friend last night and she suggested we came back to mine. I heard myself saying "I'd love to but it's messy at the moment" and have hated myself ever since. So frustrated because it was true. I so want to have the house ready for anyone to be able to come in at any time without me worrying about the mess. Oh well. Maybe 2013 will be my year for getting a routine going...0 -
Can I join in the thread too please? My house is a mess, I live with my OH who is retired, 3 children aged 15,13 and 7 and 3 cats. I also work full time and find it really difficult to motivate myself to do things round the house after I've finished working because I'm usually so tired. I also suffer from depression so going out to work is for me a bit of an achievement in itself, some days I think it would just be so much easier to just stay at home and sleep. House is an absolute state at the minute, we had a new bathroom and kitchen fitted in August last year and a complete rewire. Our furniture and possessions spent 6 weeks in storage and I still haven't unpacked all the boxes, also OH flooded the bathroom last week causing the living room ceiling to collapse on New Years Day (Great Start to 2013!!!! not) and so I had a plasterer working all day on thursday and yesterday to repair it. My living room carpet is up and the place is covered in dust also DD2 has been unwell so its not been a great start to the year. I'm back at work on monday and wondering how on earth I'm going to get all the mess sorted out as I was wanting to do it in the holidays but circumstances have conspired against me. Any help, advice, suggestions would be much appreciated because MY HOUSE IS A MESS!!!!!loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0

So much to do....where to start?
am in grumpy mood today cos hubby woke me up far too early
think i am going to disappear back up to bed with a cup of tea and start the day all over again...
Yeah me too. Why did I order the online shopping to come between 9 and 10 am when I didnt really need to get up?
Have spent all day doing housework. I am tired, have a bit of a cold and feel grumpy. I have asked the kids to do one small task for me and is it done? no of course it isnt. They have spent a nice fun filled day playing footie with their mates and have just dumped all their filthy clothes on the utility room floor.
Welcome Looby, what a nightmare about the flood. We are a nice supportive bunch on here and hopefully we can motivate you a bit. Well actually you will end up wasting lots of time reading on here but it does make you feel better I promise!
Well off to make tea for my lazy bl**dy family. DS1 has just come in and asked me if I would find his footie boots for him for tomorrow. I feel like Barbara out of the Royle family at the moment!!!0 -
Hi Catslovelycats! My old Daftie-dog does the `overgrooming` thing as well, but still sheds hair prodigiously - makes me wonder how she keeps it up!
Loobyloo2 - Welome aboard! Sounds like you`ve had a Helluva time there recently...
One good thing about the catalogue of disasters - you certainly have a good excuse for being all in a mess! The re-wiring alone was enough - we had ours done 20 years ago and I still shudder at some of the memories, mainly because it was the entire house in chaos rather than just a part of it.
What would I do in your shoes?
First, forget the New Year thing - aim to be celebrating by the Chinese one instead, that`s not till February. Seriously, don`t let the idea of getting the year off to a bad start settle in your head!
Next, I`d forget about unpacking anything else for now, if stuff has been packed up since August it`ll keep a bit longer.
Think positive - you`ve got the LR ceiling fixed.
Can you enlist the help of your OH & kids to get the floor clean enough to get the LR carpet down? It sounds like you`re the one who has to do everything, and I know how that feels! I have recently had a lot of bits of help from my eldest DGD when she`s here, and even though it doesn`t seem much, a bit of support does go a long way, even if it`s still you doing most of it.
Good luck with your efforts - and try to keep posting, it helps to have a moan and to celebrate even the most minor progress with others in a Messy House!0 -
7 bags to the charity shop. SEVEN FRICKING BAGS.

I second this ^^
What you get from this thread is motivation to get on with it and reassurance that living in a messy house isn't the end of the world in equal measures. Me? I declared that my house was resolutely going to stay a mess over the holidays because I was d@mmed if I was going to waste my time off work cleaning :rotfl:
I was hoping to do a bit of tidying up today but spent the whole afternoon shopping for curtain fabric with my mum. Still, there's always tomorrow0 -
After doing so well with the house over Christmas and New Year I haven't done much in the latter part of the week;
Thursday hospital appointment, I expected it to be about 20-30 mins but turned out to be over 90 mins followed by waiting an age in pathology. The appointment was very thorough and I felt they were really trying to get to the nub of the problem not just treat the symptoms with a few tablets, it will take months if not years to resolve some of the problems but as I've had some since birth a few more years when I know positive steps are being taken is something I can cope with.
FridaySpent the day visiting the in laws, home in time for bed. No time for messing nor demessing.
Saturday OH brought me breakfast in bed, which I enjoyed whilst reading a new book from in laws. OH feed & entertained children including playing ds new wii game with him (Christmas present from both sets of grandparents, which he received yesterday) - this is the reason for breakfast in bed. DW hokey cokey, set WM for overnight, unpacked all the bags from visiting in laws & put the contents away, tidied Living room. Apart from that I've not done much.
I must get back into a routine otherwise our previous good work will have gone to waste.Off now to catch up on yesterday and todays posts.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Hi all:j
Just popping in to update - started off oh so well today, another few bags out of room of doom.....but then DH asked for some financial info which when he got - he didn't like & all hell broke loose:mad: And when he's mad he has a go, so I got told off about 'all those papers on the table'. GRR that was the only room I didn't get to yesterday, and would take a few mins to clear - plus the mess was due to me finding the aforesaid financial info for him:eek:. This is from someone who had spent the morning on the sofa watching tv & on the notebook, as ever.....
Anyhow he has got over it now - though no apology forthcoming. And now I'm going to have a bath ....I'll get to some more tomorrowNew start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 .
