Emms, enjoy the relaxing evening. And a new GC due, maybe here for Christmas. How good is that?
The visit to the home went very well. I took some books, three of a series, for one of the residents. She has Parkinsons, and can do very little now except read, sadly, and she'd read her own books so many times. Hopefully, they're the type of light reading she'd enjoy.
Can't do the rest of the vacuuming, - the cats have refused to go out shis afternoon. Ho hum. I bet when the weather's awful again tomorrow, they'll be in and out like the proverbial yoyos.0 -
Hello. Where is everybody?
I am guessing that folks are just getting on with `basics` and Christmas preparations, and spending less time on the forum. That`s what I should be doing too, really.
I`ve had a week off, and my house is still very disorganised.
I have actually done loads, but nothing completed.(Although, OH has said we`ve had some lovely grub this week!)
I am better organised when I have to fit housey things around work, because I HAVE to do it then. If I have more than a couple of days off, the time housey tasks take expands to fill up the days, and I procrastinate.
I have NO self-discipline. I am a jelly.
But, on the Plus side...
DGD is in residence, and we`ve done some more pickled eggs (OH has eaten the first jar I did!) and she`s all showered & shiny ready for school tomorrow. I still have tomorrow off, so will kick myself hard to get back into work mode.
DD hasn`t hatched yet, they`ve decided nothing is happening yet and sent her home again! Procrastination all round, really.
Have a good Sunday all. x0 -
Hi,
Just been plugging on with things, making stuff, lots of sewing, Christmas shopping. Had a bit of a weird weekend, bits have been enjoyable a lot of it not all that great. Going to buy some of that radiator foil stuff today, get some cellotape - I thought it was impossible to actually use a full roll but there you go!
Got the decorations out last night and sorted them for the two trees and stashed the boxes upstairs, started to make a garland for the fireplace and little puttery things like that. Feels very early but if I don't make a start now I'll lose the will to do it.
The house looks fine but my heart isn't in it at the minute.0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Emms, I guess if your OH reckons the food's been wonderful, then you're doing fine! Must be a little frustrating for you, though, when you intend to do so much. I get to the end of the day, and wonder WHY didn't I do that?
Is it the weather that's getting to you, Alec e? Or you're just not feeling the C vibes atm? I won't even think decorations for another 2 weeks, but I'd like to get some done by the time DD2 and bf come over.
Must finish the cards, and I WILL do some tonight! Telling off for me tomorrow, please, if I don't get some done.
It's hammering down again, just for a change. Our patio is best part under water now, and one of the local roads, with marshland each side, already had water pouring onto it, and it was low tide when I drove through. :eek:0 -
Having another lazy day. Should really do some cleaning but OH is having the day off and I don't feel like working when he's watching TV. So even though I detest his choice of show I'm sharing the sofa with him and letting myself get wound up by it instead of just getting on with cleaning the bathroom!
I might go and bake a cake in a minute. Not quite work but more productive than sitting here. Or I might pop down to my mum's for a quick visit instead. Either way, the house can stay messy for another week0 -
We do things early as we spend most of December driving about seeing folk so there's not much time to indulge in the fun things like making garlands and squeaking when I remember I bought lime green honeycomb ceiling decorations! Plus we're making the most of it as huge parts of the period are probably going to be pretty depressing - DH's stepdad died this year.
The weather isn't what's getting me down, in fact it's been gorgeously sunny here today. We're just trudging through a bit of financial treacle at the minute and haven't been able to have a breakthrough. but we had a chat earlier and I think a few tweaks will make things a lot better. We've got into a terrible habit of making really short car journeys and recreationally shopping which all adds up to a huge amount of the year. So for the first time ever we've going to try grocery shopping on a Saturday morning to hopefully fill DH's need to go out but not to overspend. I know that sounds like a tiny change but I think it will have a huge impact on us.
Having fun now though, DH is treating me to one of his super-duper pasta bakes and I am printing some lovely menu planning sheets and other daft stuff like that. It's all about the psychology for me!
I can't believe the weather when I watch the news, hope you don't get too much more rain and there's no flooding, what a nightmare.0 -
Ah, difficult when you've lost someone close during the year. A dear friend died in January, and her OH is going to Oz to see his brother for Christmas and New Year. It'll be tough for their offspring, though, I guess, but they are all spending Christmas together.
It's difficult to see past a financial 'wall' sometimes, alec e. We experienced that in the early days of our marriage, and again when it looked as if OH was going to be made redundant - we had the 2 DDs by then. The latter didn't happen in the end, but it was scary. DD2 has been in the situation where she didn't know where her rent was coming from, when she lost one job because of poor (mental) health, then lost another through redundancy after just 6 months which, of course, sent her mental health spiralling downwards again. Awful time for her, although we helped where we could. I do feel for you, but I'm glad you think there are positive changes you can make.
Sonastin, my OH someomes watches the most awful programmes, just for something to watch! At one time, he'd read a book, but he won't do that now - don't know why. What sort of cake? And could you spare a slice, please?0 -
Hi again messies, sorry for not posting lately. Real life has been interfering with my goofing off (aka reading MSE forums) activities again!
I've allowed the housework to get to National Emergency proportions I'm afraid. I have hoovered downstairs each weekend but not into the corners, and upstairs is just coated in dust and bits. I can't be burgered to do it properly - just hope I can summon the energy when we break up for Christmas!
I got a new chiminea for the downstairs fireplace, and have had a little log fire in that at weekends - it's so comforting. I'm laying in a load of logs for Christmas now as well.
I've had a great weekend watching cheesy Christmas run-up films, and am now watching Superman (love those oldie but goodies!). Also have done my lunches and evening meals for the week, and kept on top of the washing up, so it's not all bad, honest!
Curiously I've had an achey neck for a few days, no idea why. I can only think it must be a cold/virus thing. I don't feel ill, particularly, but a little under the weather. A few strategically deployed hot water bottles and some painkillers are sorting it for now, anyway.
Hope all my fellow messies are doing ok... I will try to read back a few pages and see what you've all been up to.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

jps - hope it's something you're shaking off and not a sign you're coming down with something. Nothing worse than fighting a bug just before the holidays. You know it comes back with a vengence when you relax so you'd better get through it over the next couple of weeks!
bearcub - cake didn't get made but it'll have to be baked soon. I have a single lonely beetroot in the fridge which has been there too long to be appealing to eat. There's a recipe on here somewhere for chocolate & beetroot cake which I've tried a couple of times. Seems like a good way to use it up and I can claim a slice as one of my 5-a-day :rotfl:You're welcome to a slice when I get round to it!
alec - good luck with the finances. December always seems to be difficult cash-wise. Even when I deliberately avoid doing anything special for xmas and go with low-cost pressies from the money set aside for them, it always seems like the money runs out early. It makes it extra hard to adapt to lifestyle changes at this time of year. I hope the saturday shopping trips give you the boost that you need. Time spent visiting will cut down the time available for recreational shopping too.
Emm - at least DH appreciates your cooking. OH usually finishes dinner with "whats for pudding?" :rotfl:Cooking is about the only "basic" I've been keeping up lately. Sounds like you've got your hands full with DD nearly ready to pop so staying on top of the rest of it is an achievement. I don't have that sort of excuse. Or any more holidays now until xmas0 -
I love beetroot and I love chocolate, sonastin, but would I like both in a cake? I'm willing to give it a try!
Jps, lovely to see you again. I hope, too, that your body's just fighting something, rather than you catching something. Up the vitamin C, as a couple of my friends always do when they feel under the weatheritis.
Unusually for a Sunday, I did a WM load this afternoon - all lightweight stuff that'll be mostly dry by tomorrow afternoon. Also got three cards made - nearly there!0
