I used to make cards but I stopped because I didn't find it fun after a while when I was making them because people expected me to and all that stuff. Not to mention the fact I was making things that people would either just throw away or keep and add to the pointless clutter in their house (I only send cards because people like my mum complain if I don't, there's no love or thought that goes into them). Part of decluttering the aspirational life and all the thing babies that go along with it. Quilts, for me, are a good way to pass the time as you can still listen to the radio or whatever, do it for 10 minutes or all day and there's something useful at the end of it.

Today, along with some piecing and I actually feel like I'm making headway *hooray* I have done all my basic stuff, cleaned out the buns, emptied the bin, deep cleaned the main bedroom and dusted the other two, dusted the dining room, tidied the pantry and had a general tidy round. Roast veg and black bean burritos for tea, veg is already done so quick and easy for me tonight!
  • Afternoon Messies,

It's been a while since I posted but I've been enjoying my time off work! I've visited friends, been to the gym a lot more frequently, had my nails done (for the first time ever!) and generally tried to truly relax. It has gone really quickly - I go back on Thursday :(

Sounds like we're all having productive days! I've put away the tumble drying, had a general tidy up in the kitchen and washed up last nights' dishes. I don't know about you, but I really am starting to detest washing up. There are only me and the boyfriend but there never seems to be an end to it!

Now my little break is over, I shall go back to de-messifying :)

    See you later folks!

I can understand your reasoning, Alec e, about the cards. I do my best not to use materials that can't be recycled but, having said that, a surprising number of friends keep my cards because they're special to them ie designed with them and their interests in mind. I collect owls, all sorts of items, all sorts of materials. DD1 works at a university, and gave me an owl 2 years ago, that she bought from a student. It's made out of a recycled t-shirt, is amazingly simple in design, but all the more likeable for that. I admire people who can do that, and it's the same with quilts.

Hi bexterragga. I know what you mean about washing-up. There's only two of us, too, but OH does all the cooking, and he's quite liberal with his use of spoons and pans!

I think I like the idea of things made from recycled stuff better than the reality. It's not something that I can do but enjoy the abstract notion that people are out there in the world doing it. I can't keep things that can be recycled around though, junk needs to be out of the house before I can talk myself out of getting rid of it (note that I post on the hoarders thread!)

I also hate washing up and there are only two people here too!

No, I can't be doing with keeping stuff like that, either - not ebcause I'm a hoarder, but simply because our house is small, and we don't have a lot of storage space. One of the few great things about downsizing! :)

We moved to a smaller house and I love it, I still think sometimes it's a bit big for 2 people and 2 rabbits but hey ho the wind and the rain. It does have lots of cupboards though so that's good. And a pantry and an airing cupboard. My goodness I've never lived anywhere with a proper airing cupboard before - it's the best thing ever! Until about 2 months ago I only used it for keeping towels in but I use it for clothes and stuff too now and it's great!

I could go on about it forever. DH had to get an early start today so I got up a bit earlier than usual so have sorted some laundry, not doing it until tomorrow though as the weather forecast is good. Fed the birds, dealt with the buns, put the washing up away, had a 2 minute tidy and sorted out a bit of the quilt. Not sure what else is on the menu for today. I might clean the blinds, it's a job I hate but it looks like I'm going to have plenty of time on my hands today.

Oh yeah, I've also ordered one of DH's Christmas gifts (sorry for mentioning it). We have been together for 11 years but we never buy each other gifts as I think I may have said. I've bought a big box of lego because he likes it and because we use it all over the house to protect cables and things from bunny teeth. The box I've bought has greens and orange in which are the colours we have in the living area and we need a new tv cable protection wall so it should fit the bill *yay*.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Hi
I used to happily throw away cards after the event, maybe up to a month later but then they would all go,then a friend guilted me by her comments saying she kept them for sentimental reasons and had a box each for her children and would given them all their cards etc when they were adults. Being of a messy nature of course this meant I didn't throw them but kept the odd one here and there, some in a box that then got forgotten. I now resolve to throw out all cards I find. Yes they are lovely but I just don't see the need, I'll get more next birthday. If anyone else if organised enough to keep and collect good for them but it is just not for me.

I have a rare day off but no inclination to clean. I did find my stash of Christmas cards so I might get those done, it will be the first time in years they will be done before xmas eve.

Morning Messies from a very wet and windy island. Still, it's a rare day when it's not windy - goes with the territory.

Sadly, alec e, we don't have an airing cupboard here, as we had in our previous house. These bungalows don't have a water tank - all water comes straight from the mains - and, although there was a cupboard in the bathroom (supposedly an airing cupboard, but it was only warmed by a thin hot water pipe), we had it ripped out when we had our very small bathroom refurbished. However, the bungalow keeps its heat very well, and we have a conservatory, so it's not too bad getting washing dry. Our kitchen is well-fitted with cupboards, but we've learned to be selective about what we store/keep. With our DDs no longer at home, it helps!

Not sure what I'll get done today, as it's hairdresser day for Mum, and I'm having my hair cut, too, so that'll break up the afternoon, and I'll not be able to settle to anything until late afternoon. We have men here, clearing away our tatty side hedge which will be replaced in the new year, as recommended for heavy soils - and they don't get much heavier than we have!

    Have a good day all!
  • Ikwym about heavy soil, we used to live about a mile from where they made Nori bricks so we had very heavy clay. Now it's pretty much a beach with a small amount of soil holding things together! The wind has really picked up here too over the past few days. Although we live about 1km from the sea there's nothing to stop the wind hitting the back of the house really so wind hits it all the time. The windows are covered in sand today. Could be worse - it could be a shingle beach!
  • Morning Messies!
Lots of de-messying going on out there, I wish I could report the same... I seem to have stalled! Even the `basics` slipped yesterday. I didn`t even wash up after supper so that`s where I`ll start today (I actually quite LIKE washing up!)
Yesterday while out shopping I got DD`s Christmas present, so that`s something done!
(I got her 2 slow cookers, a 6.5l Morphy R and a nice little 3l Asda one. I knew hers had got broken and they were sadly missing it, so I`ve rung to tell her she can have her pressie early so it can be used - had a little fun guessing games on the phone, and she`s chuffed to bits. I`ll deliver them today!)
Later this afternoon I`m taking OH into work for a meeting (yet another!) re job change, so I feel a bit `can`t settle` to get really stuck in with de-messying. Haven`t even decided what to cook today.
Drags self off to put head in freezer for inspiration....
