My home is a mess

Having another 10-min break...
Ashes done, fire lit, 2nd load in WM, 2nd bag of carp to sort/shred brought downstairs & started on. I`ll go and shower/hair wash when washer stops.
Bexterragga - hope you have a decent day at work tomorrow.
Pricetag- I like that "courage & will" Mmmm...
Alec E - I`m trying to plan meals too, using freezer stuff to make room.
Have a nice evening all.x0 -
Wow Emm you sound like you were getting things done yesterday!
Today I've done my normal stuff and now I'm making a door curtain as the porch is freezing. I have no money to spend on it so I'm just ignoring the practical things about opening the door and when the postie shoved letters through... Still it'll be fine overnight. Not sure what else is going on today. I really need to get on with the quilt but very much like homework everything else in the world suddenly becomes more interesting.
Have a good day everyone, hope no-one lives in the flooded places.0 -
Hi All!
This morning I did a quick tidy then went upstairs - Sorting Trousers..I decided that I needed some multi-hangers for mine (I live in trousers!) so went into town...ended up doing some Christmas shopping.
I`m now very wet (trouser-bottoms soggy, yuck!), tired (hence hot coffee while I type here) but VERY pleased with myself. Now only OH, DS`s GF, and eldest DGD to buy for. And the `novelty` stationery packs contents to sort for the children. That`s a HUGE weight off my mind, time-wise, but the downside of my fruitful day`s shopping is where on earth am I going to put everything while I`m still trying to de-clutter??!!
OH has declared that we`re going to the pub for an hour...well, I feel too soggy & wind-swept to argue, though I think it`s because he wants to avoid being shown every item & being told where & how much... I`ll let him off with a vague "well done dear" as he`s been SO good about my running commentaries when we`re watching all the cookery progs lately!
We`ll be home by 7, it`s bratwurst, proper German mustard (yum) and stir-fried sprouts/spring onions/jar of pickled celeriac for tea, with some crusty rolls. Quick and easy, and feels like a treat. I might even roast some chestnuts afterwards, if the fire looks right.
The weather here is still really foul, and the by-pass was quite nasty on the way home, but it`s better than ice and snow! It is winter, after all.
No great progress de-messying, but a productive day. Have a nice evening all.
Drags self off to change soggy trousers...0 -
Evening Messies.
Going back a bit, well done, Sonastin, (and your OH) for getting the place 'spick and span' :T. That must feel wonderful after all the problems you've had with 'mess' recently. And well done for all the prezzies - what a wonderful idea. to me, it would just be an idea, cos I'd never get round to doing anything like that. Actually, there's only one person that would appreciate a prezzie like that, and that would be DD1, who loves cooking. She obviously takes after OH, not me!
Seems to me, Emms, that you have your priorities right, with the lie-ins. How often do you get the chance? Not very frequently, I'd guess. It's difficult, isn't it, to find places to keep prezzies? I have the problem every year, trying to keep things from OH - I only have so much space in my wardrobe! At least we're only having ED stay here for Christmas this year, and I can use Mum's house to hide things now. Sadly, DD2 and bf won't be with us this year, cos they want to be in their own home, which I can understand.
Sounds as if you've been busy, too, Alec e. When it comes to practicality, it sometimes has to be function first, especially when you want to keep warm!
Hope your day at work went well, Bexterraga.
I intended to vacuum today but, because the weather's lousy (more very strong winds, rather than the heavy rain that so many areas have), the cats have been in nearly all day. One was in the conservatory, and one in our bedroom this afternoon, and I thought I could at least do the kitchen and the lounge, when my friend called round, and stayed a while. By the time she left, both cats had moved, and I didn't want to scare them. Ho hum. so, I've done next to nothing in the de-messying area, but I have ordered a number of prezzies, finished the latest newsletter, sorted dried washing, and a WM load for tomorrow, and started making DD2's birthday card. The latter will be completed while watching Kirstie's programme tonight - always good for inspiration!0 -
Watching Kirstie last night DH kept telling me off for squirming at the stuff. Just not my thing at all, that look always looks grimy and bland to me. Still enjoyed the show though.
Bearcub, I am a firm believer in the idea that form follows function so even though it doesn't look amazing (it's cream in a very white room) but it certainly did the trick last night. It was withstand post (I posted loads of stuff through yesterday!) and DH always texts when he leaves work so I moved it before he came home then put it back and it was fine.
Today I'm going to make real headway on my mum's quilt. DH's first present arrived today. It's so exciting to have a parcel wrapped up in the bottom of my wardrobe. As I've probably said we've never bought Christmas gifts for each other before so have secrets and stuff is fun. I ordered some vegan marshmallows for him yesterday and when pay day arrives I'll order his other gift then I'm done *yay*.0 -
Afternoon Messies.
I don't always like the stuff Kirstie does, Alec e, but I like her fondness for handmade and crafts. I actually saw very little of the programme last night, as DD2 called, and we always talk for a long time. I liked the colouring that they went for, but both OH and I thought the whole thing looked overdone and a mess at the end. Surely, the whole idea was to make the kitchen less of a mess, not more?!
Secret prezzies - how wonderfully exciting. It's like being kids again, isn't it?I've ordered prezzies, but not received them yet. Not sure if I have any wrapping paper, either. I've already paid for horse show tickets for the DDs, so they'll only be getting a couple of very small prezzies this year. We'll probably go shopping in town next week, and we'll have to get some prezzies on Mum's behalf.
I've done on WM load, and will load up for another, not that it'll be done for a couple of days, as we've nowhere to dry anymore atm. I'm hoping to get the vacuuming done today, but I'm visiting one of the local homes this afternoon. Not quite lunchtime yet, so maybe I'll go and do it NOW!
Update: Lounge and kitchen done, and will do the rest later when the cats go out, then I can wash the kitchen and bathroom floors, which will take all of 5 minutes.0 -
It is very exciting. The guy who has made my gift from DH sent him a photo of it yesterday and he is more excited than ever. He's delivering it himself tomorrow to MILs house.
I agree with you about the Kirstie show, even when I don't like the stuff the passion of the experts is really enjoyable.0 -
Oo, what is it, then. Am I allowed to know?0
-
The handmade gift is for me so I have no clue what it is... We're one of those really annoying couples that spend all their time together and talk about everything so we're rubbish at keeping secrets so we keep giving each other clues.0
-
Bearcub, hope your visit to the home went well.
Alec, that`s rather sweet. Do you also give deliberately misleading clues? We used to do that with the kids, and we also used to wrap presents in deliberately misleading shapes - my DD coined the term `flamboozling` for this!
Speaking of DD, she saw the midwife today, and though it`s 2 weeks early things may be starting to happen, so they`ve kept her in till she hatches! This is a relief to all concerned, as she has a bit of a history on the last 2. Her OH is pretty good at coping with the kids, and his mum is nearby and happy to babysit. I`ve done their shopping run today, and DD was already pretty organised. So now we wait.....
I have said `buggritt` to getting my own house in order for now, what with Christmas shopping, DD`s lot, and now eldest DGD (DS`s DD) in residence for the weekend.
We did roast the chestnuts last night, and I`ve bought some more today. And some wine... After all the running about in the last couple of days I`m giving myself permission to relax this evening. It IS Friday, and I still have a long weekend off!
Have a nice weekend all x.0
