A wonky quilt? :rotfl: I assume you mean 'different? It gets boring when something is repetitive, doesn't it? I've made around 20 Christmas cards so far, and no two are the same, although I'm using two different basic 'patterns'. By changing papers and pictures, I'm constantly varying them. True, it's easier to just cut out lots of pieces of paper, all the same pattern/colour, then glue them all on the cards, but where's the creativity in that?
I've now swept the kitchen floor, put a duvet cover into soak (cat bled on it, but at least the cover's navy), and put the duvet and pillows away that DD1 used while she was here. When OH goes out, I'll clean the work surfaces.

Hi all
Thanks Bearcub - my son did enjoy his birthday. He gets very anxious over birthdays and Christmas. He always feels like everyone else is enjoying themselves more than him, the presents are never quite good enough or he cant decide what to ask for, etc etc. I am sure you can understand! My lovely Nephew came to stay and made a big fuss of him which made his birthday. DS doesnt have any friends so having someone for a sleepover was a big occasion.
So impressed with you creative lot. I am hopeless. I need to shorten some curtains I bought for the front door but they will still be sitting there next spring if I dont make an effort.
And as for storage. If you can afford it you could go to somewhere like Wilkinsons and pick up some storage boxes that look smart. I have managed to squeeze most of my work stuff into the cupboard in our office but could do with something to put some lever arch files in. Back in the days before MSE I bought some boxes with wheels on from the holding company which are brilliant for files but I need to find something a bit more budget priced!
Ah well, back to rejigging my November budget! Need to start making some lists for Christmas presents too and thinking about plans for this week. Enjoy whats left of the weekend everyone x0 -
Well, that was a bit of a mad week
have done the whole house today somehow and I really am going to try hard to keep on top of it, a little bit a day. I made a pledge to myself today that I was going to have a good day and not let anything get to me. So far, so good! Must try it more often. My hormones have been here, there and everywhere lately so I'm hoping it's a sign that they've started to level out a little.
Got to put a cheque in the post tomorrow to finish paying for my wedding ring, couldn't push that to one side for much longer!
Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time0 -
I'm so pleased that your DS enjoyed his special day, YL. It must be tough for him (and you, his dad and brother, too), but how lovely that he enjoyed his cousin staying over.
:):)
MM, good to see you. Wow, you're putting us all to shame!I'm glad that you're feeling more settled atm. Here's hoping it stays that way.
Have just about finished making a birthday card for a friend, whose wife died in January. Difficult time, 'occasions' in the first year particularly. At least he's going off to Oz for Christmas, to visit his brother.0 -

No, I mean wonky! It's a modern quilting thing where instead of cutting the fabric exactly so the blocks are uniform you cut strips thicker for some pieces, don't centre the centre pieces, mess about with scale and things. Erm that doesn't explain very well...
So this is a log cabin block -

Morning All!
Moonjelly, welcome! I sympathise about `stuff in boxes`, though I don`t have an answer. My spare bedroom is badly cluttered with my son`s stuff in boxes, and he has no inclination to sort the contents or put stuff into something less unsightly like nice folding storage crates...nor will he give me the go-ahead to do it. It just causes rows if I go on about it, so I`ve sort of given up. For now...
Messy Mare, you sound better, well done on getting things under control. It`s always a good mood-lifter, I find, if you can really see the results of your effort! Then it`s maintaining that that`s my usual problem!!
YL - your nephew sounds a real star! Glad your DS enjoyed his visit and had a good birthday.
Alec - Nice one on getting that coat! I don`t mind charity shops charging a bit more for good items, if that item is exactly what you want. I would have paid shop price for my favourite tweed jacket, but there weren`t any in the shops - till I spotted just what I`d been wanting in a charity shop, a few years ago, and it`s still a big favourite both for `best` & casual. BTW, that `wonky` quilt would do my head in!!!
Bearcub, your cards sound lovely, and as far away from the mass-produced stuff as you can get.
Re Christmas markets, I`m generally not a fan, though there are a couple held near here that are very popular. I DO love having a browse in Lidl and Aldi this time of year though, for things like Lubecker marzipan, venison steaks, and proper German mustard (I bought a tray of this at Aldi because you can`t get it any other time of year!)
I`m on annual leave now, plus with next days off I`m `free` till a week on Tuesday.
Yesterday had a nice lazy day with OH, pub for an hour in the afternoon, cooked him stuffed hearts for tea, and an early night. Today it`s grey and dull and I can`t get going. Thinking about Christmas shopping while I have some free time, but lacking inspiration on what to look for & where to start. I`m usually well into it by now, so trying not to panic...
My `plan` for the week is to eat out of the freezer as much as possible, mainly to make some space/avoid wasting stuff that needs using before it`s frost-damaged...
Try to get as much de-cluttering & cleaning done as I can, and keep up with the `basics`. Doesn`t sound much? Only because I`m trying to set realistic goals!
So far today I`ve filled the bin & put it out, refilled birdfeeders,(spent far loo long watching squirrel delicately eating from the back sunflower seed feeder) and done `basics` in kitchen, now nipping out to take a bag of stuff to Barnardo`s, and bread/milk/sugar from Iceland on the way back.

Afternoon messies :hello:
I'm not very good at keeping up with this thread but know most of you from reading and the occasional post!
However, I am very good at being a messy!
I want the house straight by Christmas  and that is going to be no easy task with 2 small girls, a PT job, SAD and possibly CFS...
But... <drumroll> today, I have...
Swept kitchen floor
Cleaned whole of bathroom :j (which was disgusting)
Filled a black sack of junk
Done 2 loads of washing
Done 1 dishwasher load
That is a huge achievement for me and I still have some energy for some more so I will...
Finish the kitchen
Do some more washing (I could be at it a week and it wouldn't be finished)
Attempt to fill a second black sack
Possibly take black sacks to tip if I have time before school run
Going to have a little break now and read the last few pages of posts for some inspiration
Good luck de-messying today everyone x0 -

Take lots of breaks, make sure you've got your evening meal sorted before you burn out. Binge cleaning isn't healthy!0 -

Ah, yes! I've seen those before, alec e, but didn't know that's what they were called. I once, for a very short while, thought about learning how to quilt, but I don't have the patience - for fabric, that is. Working with small pieces of paper, and occasionally with dolls houses, I DO have patience with some things.
Emms, I'm so pleased that you now have a decent amount of time off, so deserved. I can't get my head around prezzies, either, really, although we don't have many to buy. Oo, and stuffed hearts! Must get some more of those - I just love them! Thanks for reminding me, will go and raid the butchers at some point.
Hi ..... and bye, donna. :rotfl: You go, girl!
Hi Fruball. You've done remarkably well, and still have energy? I don't have SAD in any obvious form, but I do find that continual dull days sap me a bit. Not that I have children about now, but I did go through a time when I had two young children and was working part-time, so I can sympathise.
I have cleaned the bathroom, including wiping down the shower to take off limescale marks, have done a WM load (soaked duvet cover and some other bits), put away dried washing, put away last night's washing up, changed the kitchen towels, and cleaned the hob and work surfaces.0
