    I love my Henry.

I hate making my current quilt so much I did some exercise today. I haven't used my exercise bike for months but the pain of climbing a big hill seemed better than carrying on with the piecing!

Hope everyone's having a good day, gorgeously sunny here so the last of the laundry is flapping about outside.

    Evening messies.

Well done for the furniture tetris, Emms. Are you satisfied with the way it's turned out? A pain, isn't it, when you have parts of the floor/carpet newly exposed, and you find loads of pet hair/human hair/dust/cobwebs? Most of them need a good working over, too, to remove them.

Henries are great - we have one at church, and Mum has one. If our Hoover dies on us, then I'd have no hesitation in getting a Henry.

Sonastin, it wasn't your weekend away that 's started his temper tantrums, was it? Did it go ok? I did give a small wave.

Oh dear, that's not good that the quilt is driving you away to do extra exercise, alec e!

It's been an incredibly dark and dull day here, weatherwise, after a beautiful day yesterday. Have done NO de-messying to day, as we saw to the stables this morning, collected DD1 from the hover, had lunch, rushed home to wish Mum a Happy Birthday (she says she's now 48. ;)) . Then all 4 of us went out for dinner, so no time for any h/w, except folding and putting away some dried washing.
  • The exercise was good, I needed to stop being in one place! The fact that I hate the quilt is just a bonus! While I was on the bike I ha an idea to make the quilt less boring so I worked on that last night and will carry on with it today.

DH went to work early today as he has a consultation to go to later further away so needed to get a good start. So I had a lovely lie in. It was gorgeous! Got up two 1/2 hours later than usual! So I haven't done much, just put some laundry away and done the washing up. At some point today I have to have a two minute tidy in the living and dining areas, make the bed, do a bit of ironing, make a pie, sweep the floor and henry upstairs. Think that's it. enjoy your day.
  • Hello

Sneaking in quietly hopefully whilst no one is looking. I have done sfa since my last post, a week or two ago, and am now feeling the guilt in spades. All my good intentions blown. Have a day off today and am still in bed as not been sleeping well, have spent far too long playing games on the pc rather than getting up and getting on. Kitchen is clean and loo has been cleaned everyday. Need to vacuum I too have a Henry but he is past his best. Oh well up and at em.

  • If the kitchen is clean and you've cleaned the loo every day then you haven't done nothing.

My advice for today is to do something but don't have a massive blow out, do loads then crash and not want to do anything for another few weeks - it's a killer cycle to get into. Pick a couple of easy things, one more involved/more boring/harder task and you'll have achieved a lot. And you'll still have tons of time to enjoy your day off.
  • Hi Messies!
Sonastin - good luck with your OH, if only you can show him it`s HIS stuff that`s the main culprit for the clutter you may get through to him! Enjoy the weekend away.

Procrastinator - don`t go feeling guilty about stuff, it`s just an ingrained habit in most of us that needs kicking out!! So you had a lie-in, but you have a clean kitchen and that`s always a boost. (I can`t always say that!)

Alec E, well done on your creative re-think on the quilting. And you`re so right about the `killer cycle` of housework binges - I think that`s been a big part of my problem here, but now I`m tackling things the way you suggest it`s taking longer to complete a big project but I am getting somewhere, as well as keeping up with the basics.

Bearcub, I`m very pleased with the bedroom changes, but still a lot of work to do. The sorting of small clutter will take time as I don`t want to just stash it all as I have before...
Today I`ve been to farm shop, but still have a bit to do before getting a bit more done upstairs. I`ve got stuff to drop off for DD in a bit (boot looks like Harvest Festival!) as she was out this morning. Then home via Mr T to get petrol.
I didn`t get as far as doing bedroom windowsill yesterday, so that`s where I`ll start when I get back.
    Laters....

Bearcub - I gave a small wave too when we went for breakfast in the bluebird cafe on Lee-on-Solent seafront. Had to sit with my back to the sea though so that OH could get his fix of looking at the water! I think being away from Hampshire is part of the tantrums - he is basically just homesick. We experienced all the things he moans about as being "the trouble with the north" while we were down there (rubbish service in shops, godawful traffic & worse driving, etc) but he didn't notice ANY of it down there because he felt at home. I just hope he can find a way to settle up here because I know I'd suffer the same problem if I moved south but more so - he appreciates a 250 mile gap between him& his family but I wouldn't ;)

Emms - At the moment, I don't think it would help if OH noticed it was his doing. He's getting really down about the whole lifestyle we're living & blames himself for not achieving enough on the house to give us more space. We're trying to fit 2 houses worth of stuff into a 2-bed "flat" at the moment until he gets more of the house renovated. He's likely to overreact and take important stuff to the tip to get rid of the "clutter". I feel like I'm treading on eggshells at the moment :(

Worst of it is he doesn't want to accept that some of his behaviour is pointing towards depression because he doesn't see himself as "mentally ill". He agrees that tantrums over things not being perfect and feeling rushed because he's being "forced" to take a day off aren't normal but he doesn't link that with signs of illness. I don't think he has reached a point where he needs medical intervention yet but I wish he'd learn to relax before he gets to that point.

Oh well, moan over. Neither of us really want to go away this weekend but its one we have to do. Hopefully he'll enjoy it when he gets there because its something that should suit him better.

Have a good weekend folks
  • Hi everyone,

hope you are all well. Not got anything much done for the past couple of days :(. Partly because i'm so tired after being woken by the police at 2.45am on Thursday!!
My husbands ven had been stolen from our front yard, right underneath our bedroom window which was open and we didn't hear a thing!! The thieves had also emptied our diesel tank into barrels, taken a load of tools and stuff and a generator from in the farm buildings. Then they'd driven the van half a mile away and stolen a motorbike from a neighbouring farm. A passing police car had tried to pull the van over (big white van in the back of beyond at 2am is always suspicious!) and they had driven off and ditched the van in a field along the road. The driver etc had run off by the time the police got there :(. The van has gone to forensics, poor mr farmer is itching to see how much of his stuff has been taken :(. So we're all feeling a bit on edge at the moment, especially with the thought of people creeping around the buildings and yards at night while we are asleep.
To cheer myself up i've made some mini christmas cakes this morning which are now in the oven and smelling very nice, cooking always takes my mind off things, i wish cleaning had the same effect! haha!!

    Take care all,

    Jxxx
    It's a farmers life for me......:j

Afternoon/evening, Messies. Not sure which it is when it's relatively earlyl but it's dark outside.

Alec e, your exercise and boredom/frustration was obviously meant to be then if you were re-inspired. Exercise and inspiration at the same time - I think a lot of artists/writers work that way. :)

Good to see you again, Procrastinator. As alec e says, you're doing the essentials, so you ARE achieving, however much you feel otherwise. You'll get there.

Sonastin, what a very awkward situation with your OH. Treading on eggshells is just it when someone is getting depressed - whatever you say is mis-intepreted, and is seen as criticism. All you can do, very difficult though it is, is to keep comment to a minimum, because he's already feeling 'guilty', I'd guess. <Hugs> to you. 250 miles from your family is an awfully long way!

FW, I'm so sorry to hear about the thefts from your farm. So much of it going on these days; it's been featured on tv a number of times this year. :( Must make you feel very unsettled. I hope some of the stuff gets back to you eventually and, meanwhile, <hugs> to you, too.

DD1 is staying with us atm, but goes home tomorrow. We've been out a lot, so not much has been done, except the cleaning of the bathroom. I must go and sort out some washing for the WM for tomorrow, because the basket is starting to get very full.
  • Sonastin, at least your OH will have something to show for his efforts when the renovation is done - it`s very rare to hear of any building stuff being completed `on schedule` anyway. Is he doing it all by himself? Hope you`ll both enjoy the weekend.
FW - how horrible for you! I hope the thieves are caught and you get your stuff back soon.

Chez-Emm - very little bedroom progress today, as I ended up staying longer at DD`s than planned, plus the route home via Mr T`s and that side of town is dotted with so many minor roadworks/temporary traffic lights, many of which had no actual work going on - the companies who do temp lights and the ones that make the road cones must be coining it!!
I got home (eventually) and concentrated on downstairs first - emptied ashes, cleaned hearth, wooly rugs shaken outside (v. hairy) Henry`d hall, LR and kitchen,
washed a load of DGD`s stuff & hung it. Now going to do her tea and make fire then go for a shower. Phew! I think that`ll do for today.
Long day tomorrow, so an early supper (pork shoulder I cooked last night, sprouts & `apache` spuds in steamer. Tomorrow after work it`s leftovers!)
Have a good weekend all. x
