thanks for link - but I couldn't see the quilt

I did a little bit of research and realised you have changed your user name - I found a link to the website Jean something - is that the pic you are referring to? its gorgeous - what a fantastic idea!

Nooooo, I haven't changed my username! Never to worry about the pic, it's just a striped quilt, not an exciting pattern or anything!

The new one is coming slowly, you know how it is - I know it has to be done by a certain date so everything else in the world is more interesting!
  • Well so far hung up one load of washing and white load on .
Got email asking for meter readings - got electric ones easily but I can't find the gas box key . Tried alsorts and nope it won't open phoned Scottish power and no joy there either .
Post arrived and got cat mag delivered - quick read and it's now in recycle bin . Phoned the company and cancelled my subscription .
    Date restarted DFW 30/04/16
    Money owed :-
    Vet £700
DMP too much ( need to find out how much )
    That's it
  • The key thing to remember is creating space.

People tend to ram things into empty cupboards or drawers to the point where they become so full that things start piling up on top of other units, or other places, which is impossible to work around and clean effectively so the house is never able to be fully clean with so much in the way

    1) As much as it goes against what you'd want - Get rid of all the stuff you don't need, but hang on to. Throw clothes out you don't wear regularly. throw old expired letters, and old energy statements and other paperwork you don't need, books you don't read, bed sheets and towels no longer used. Really gut the house. It's hard to part with things you feel with a use at some point in the near future but afterwards you won't even notice they're gone. (Stick to one room, or one cupboard at a time, don't over do it)

    2) With the empty space, is there any flat-pack furniture, or any other units or tables that can now be removed? If so, get rid of them. This only creates a storage place to put things down on and clutter up again.

    3) Under the sink is good for seeing what's empty and out of date. Go through it, get rid of things out of date.

    4) With more room, cleaning now becomes easier
  • Hi Messies!
Welcome Danetastic (I love the word `de-lurking!), Fitnessfan3, and Mickaveli.
Bearub, we`ll be watching `the Paradise` tonight on I-player. Been prioritising keeping up with Prof & Junior Masterchefs!!
Danetastic, how lovely to have a houseful of dogs! (I only have my one old Daftie-dog now, and she is messy enough for 6) They aren`t Great Danes, by any chance? - I just wondered, with your user name...

I`ve got cracking on Project Bedroom again today, but ground to a halt/break for coffee... seriously thinking of moving furniture around while I`m at it.....
Timer in use for this break, 10 mins left. Need more caffeine...

Afternoon Messies, and welcome to fitnessfan3 and mickaveli - where do people get their board names from? It would make an interesting topic. :)

Bit of a blow abut the meter reading, danetastic. What do you try next?

The Paradise was good, Emms, just love the supercilious sneer on Katherine Glendenning's face! Did the caffeine work?

I have tidied this room, by putting away papers, folders and other sundries that I'm not going to use in the next week. This is really because DD1 is coming over for a couple of days and, although she'll be sleeping in the lounge (she doesn't like the futon we have in here) there is some family history stuff I want to show her, and it would be difficult with the room being so full.

Part of yesterday's WM load has dried, so that's been dealt with. Did the ironing last night, and I've vaccumed through our mansion ;), and been out in the garden, re-potting. The cats loved having us outside, and are now fast asleep on the sofas. I've put the washing-up away, and now must clean the disgusting draining board and sinks. :( Most people hate ironing, I hate cleaning sinks.

Evening all - back at work , managed to keep the house tidy - although when I got home from work tonight it is full of toys, DH has left his washing up for me and DD is refusing to tidy her bedroom even tho her Nanny is coming to stay

Mother in law staying tomorrow as I will be counting the Police Election votes tomorrow night and Friday - even though the turnout prediction here is low - but it's £160 for a 2 hr training course, 9:30pm-1am (latest) tomorrow and 10-4 (Friday)...DH birthday next week so that will cover his pressie and a night out for us

Bearcub - I will do your sinks if you do my hoovering - I detest hoovering!

  • Hi Messies!
Project Bedroom continues... I DID decide to move the furniture around (extreme Tetris!) and I`m very pleased with the outcome. Had to stop eventually and do food, still lots more needs doing up there.
Bearcub, the caffeine helped me carry on, but I`m just topping up my caffeine levels again now to get back up there & do some more! I`m aching all over, so this morning I`ve just pottered quietly downstairs at the `basics`.
Donna, I used to hate hoovering too - when we had an upright hoover (had various ones over the years) I found it a struggle changing the bags and sometimes the brush roller would disengage and it was a struggle to get the little belt hooked up again properly - and the henry-shaped thing (not a proper henry) didn`t suck hard enough and used to get blocked. Now I`ve got a proper Henry it`s a doddle!
In fact, that`s where I`m going to start off today, doing the newly-exposed bits of bedroom carpet where dog-hair seeped under things...
I`ve got a couple of foldy storage boxes full of cluttery bits that will need sorting, and
a pile of trousers to hang (trouser coat-hanger stash in caravan of Doom, it was too dark to go and find them yesterday pm)
Then I`ll have to tackle the bedroom windowsill, and re-hang a mirror.
I managed to collect together & sort my frighteningly large collection of story-tapes, there was a small wall of them beside the bed as I`d put off doing this for ages, and the `wall` just grew!
Chicken stew tonight, most of it cooked last night while we were eating (chicken curry & chips) all festered nicely, leeks/celery & carrots nice & soggy together, so just need to fish the bones out and add a few spuds.
Have a nice day all - Henry and I are heading upstairs...

OH is going through another messy phase again so I can see us heading towards another tantrum. Must make sure *my* stuff is tidy so he has no ammunition to hurl at me! I'm not sure how it happens - the clutter just sort of builds up without either of us really noticing until suddenly its unbearable (for him - having been a student, I can bear any amount of someone else's mess as long as I don't have to clear it!) and the (metaphorical) toys come out of the pram. We're going away this weekend so I can't do anything about it then but I'm off work Tuesday so should hopefully be able to sort it before its an issue.
