same here,me and boyfriend are mentally ill (him more so than me) , so keeping up with housework is hard. Bit of hoarding of rubbish on his part and lack of motivation on my part. But I've only just recently been allowed in the kitchen (I moved in with him about 8 months ago, and he wouldn't let me in any of the rooms because of rubbish build up) so here's what I've done to the flat in the last 8 months.

cleared all the rubbish in the kitchen (Came half way up my calves) out, done the dishes and scrubbed the counters to an inch of their lives, and also bleached all the appliances as they had grease built up on them.
Cleared the bathroom, and toilet of rubbish and cleaned floors and walls and basins and toilet bowls.
Cleared the hallway out of rugs and magazines and empty envelopes, Added two litter trays for the cats (THEY LOVE IT!)

    What i have to do:
Clear the main room of rubbish, clothes, unneeded furniture (It's a studio flat)
    Clean the windows
    wash the curtains
    organise the main room!!!

It's a big task cleaning a flat on your own at the age of 18 (I ws 17 when i moved in) But i'm on my way, and we can actually walk about the flat with out worrying about tripping on anything (except the main room..i'm working on it!!)

HopefulMS - Welcome aboard! You`ve done brilliantly already, well on your way!

I`m off to work in a few minutes, but only till 1pm. Quite a novelty, that I`m not staying till 9! (Love my new rota!) I`m quite pleased that I came downstairs to find LR & kitchen pretty much tidy as I left them at 9.30 last night. (Had an early night) DD & DGD were still up, and haven`t trashed the place, I think they are beginning to get the message...
Have a nice Sunday all x

Hi Donna and Mrs H, welcome along. Donna your post made me smile because my son was the master of tantrums. I became an expert in ignoring him no matter how much he screamed!

Have had a strange week. Major trauma yesterday because DS1 thought his hamster had died. I put the poor thing in a shoebox ready to be buried and then he came round but was kind of staggering about and falling over. Couple of hours later he was back to normal and skipping about his cage. I have to say though I think we are on borrowed time because we have had him for over 2 years. Poor DS has not been very well all week so I am hoping little hammie can just hold on a bit longer. He seems fine this morning.

I also have to find some way of storing all the work files and paperwork that are sitting in a big box on the office floor. Our office really isnt big enough to accommodate a big cardboard box in the middle of it!x
Hi there YORKSHIRE LASS, thank you for a lovely welcome, why is it that a 5 min tantrum seems to last a million times longer than 7 hours of good behaviour lol!

Oh god I remember those hamster-dying moments only too well - I can remember the last of our furry friends my dad became obsessed with - the poor hamster was so poorly and my dad kept nursing him back to health - he would literally rush home during coffee bread etc to spoon fed this hamster milk - when he eventually died my dad was heartbroken and we were never bought a replacement!

Sounds like you have a good recipe for the washing powder, donna, and pretty economical, too, given the price of borax and soda.
    relatively

Today, I've cleaned the bathroom (which OH is about to mess up cos he's decided he needs a shave!), sorted dried washing, swept the conservatory floor, and potted on some plants that desperately needed it. Also, planted some fritillaria corms which a kind elderly neighbour gave me a couple of days ago. He'd obviously been talking to my Mum, cos he called me by my full name, and Mum's the only one now who calls me that. The conservatory floor, although it has needed sweeping for a while, had to be done because I knocked a plant over last night, just before going to bed, and really couldn't be bothered to do anything about it then. Still, all done now.

We're awaiting a man who's coming round to give us an estimate for taking out our very thin and messy hedge, and replace the fence between us and our new neighbours. Once that's done, we can plant a wildlife friendly hedge instead. :)
Hi Bearcub, got to say I am impressed with the results so far - my lovely mother in law bought me a plastic tupperware container and it has a little scoop on the lid from Asda - what a perfect gift

You had a busy day yesterday - hoping today is a restful day for you - how was your quote? I love wildlife friendly hedges - sadly our garden is the size of a postage stamp and with kids its impossible

  • Moring Messies,

I have been missing in action for a while now. Sorry about that. Work is !!!! and the house is a tip. I am on the sofa with the dogs and rather fed up.

I need to clean my room and move the fish tank.

This is quite scary. and possibly impossible but if I don't sort a desk out soon I am in serious trouble.

And right now I have a tummy ache. grrrr.

    Sending love and hugs

    Having a busy weekend

DS's GF has been admitted to hospital - no idea what is wrong so looks like in for a day or two. They haven't been together that long but he is very worried about her.

In the middle of decorating and the boiler decides to pack up - fortunately OH is a gas engineer so that was sorted very quickly but meant I had to unload the airing cupboard for him to get to it, at least he serviced it whilst it was all in bits.

Am spending today waxing the woodwork, I have to brush it on then leave for 10 minutes before I can buff it off so having a quick browse here.

Later today need to do a Costco shop, return stuff to B&Q and Maplins then visit son's GF if I have time. Limit is two visitors to the bed and having been on this ward I know they are really strict with it. At least for once I am the vistior and not the patient :j

Enjoy the sunshine all and welcome to Donna and HopefulMS

Donna, the soup sounds lovely, I have soupy phases too, especially this time of year. Re the laundry gloop, where did you find the Borax? I looked for some a while ago, and all I could get was something called `borax substitute`. It didn`t dissolve properly, so I stashed it somewhere in the caravan of Doom...

    Emm-in-a-pickle:
I am loving my washing powder. I have looked for borax for months and months I found it in a little independent chemist, so I bought two packs - they were rock hard when I got them home had to give them a good bash with a rolling pin to loosen up...my arms got a great workout what with bashing and grating
