    Evening Messies.

I can confirm that Lidl's own choc (bellarom) is excellent, although I've now moved on to their 74% plain one,as my tastes have changed. As donna says, it tastes nothing like cheap chocolate, and I'd guess it's because continentals don't tolerate cheap choc.

Impressive that you've made your own washing powder, donna. Dove products always smell nice, I think. Do let us know how it goes. I really couldn't be bothered tbh, but then I was a chemist, and mixing things together is now well and truly out of my system - even cooking! ;)

Mrs Hoppy, I'm pleased you've found some encouragement on this thread. Take it as easy as possible, though, won't you?

FA, lovely to see you again. Shame about having to move your desk, and having to put everything in boxes. will you be able to find what you need now?

Today, I've folded clean towels, and put them away, sorted and put away dried washing, and done another load. Dried and put away washing-up. Also - ta dah! - washed my car! :j it was long overdue, considering I promised myself I'd look after it when we bought it. Even more amazing, was that OH washed his car, too, and it's still in one piece! And there was me thinking that it was only the dirt that was holding it together. ;)

I've printed and trimmed all the invitations to the church Christmas lunch - they have to be addressed on Sunday, and started trimming the inserts for the cards we deliver to the local houses. I'm planning on having a really good go at card making tomorrow, both afternoon and evening, as the other paper stuff had to be done today. I'm getting worried that the cards just won't get done. Then again, I worry about that every year, and every year, it works out fine.

    HM Washing Powder

Right so I did a load of blacks - got to say I am impressed, they are clean, they don't smell as nice as Arial or Daz but that's prob because I fell asleep and forgot to add the Fabric Conditioner  (I always add mine towards the end of the cycle before final rinse)

Doing whites today so will report back!

I'm going shopping tomorrow I HATE SHOPPING and try to do as much online as i can, but it's middle childs b'day next Tues so i need a few bits and bobs. I'm also hoping to get a couple of xmas presents too - i have A LIST and everything!! :rotfl:

  • Morning everyone

Hi Donna and Mrs H, welcome along. Donna your post made me smile because my son was the master of tantrums. I became an expert in ignoring him no matter how much he screamed!

Have had a strange week. Major trauma yesterday because DS1 thought his hamster had died. I put the poor thing in a shoebox ready to be buried and then he came round but was kind of staggering about and falling over. Couple of hours later he was back to normal and skipping about his cage. I have to say though I think we are on borrowed time because we have had him for over 2 years. Poor DS has not been very well all week so I am hoping little hammie can just hold on a bit longer. He seems fine this morning.

Well not too much de-messying done this week but I have big plans to sort some clothes out. Got one of those charity shop bags for MIND which is a charity close to my heart so I am going to fill that today. I am also hoping I might find a few things to sell on ebay as I could do with some extra cash.

I also have to find some way of storing all the work files and paperwork that are sitting in a big box on the office floor. Our office really isnt big enough to accommodate a big cardboard box in the middle of it!

Good luck with the shopping FW. I have got birthdays to buy for too then I really need to start thinking about Christmas but just cant get my head around that at the moment.

Right, breakfast, shower then into the wardrobe!!!! Have a good day everyone x

Afternoon Messies - nearly said 'Bunnies', which is another forum entirely. :)

Sounds like you have a good recipe for the washing powder, donna, and pretty economical, too, given the price of borax and soda. I don't have children to buy prezzies for, but you've found some good offers. Sadly, I can no longer eat Cadbury's choc, or I maight have taken advantage of the offer myself! ;)

I have to say that I've never disliked shopping, but that could be because OH doesn't mind it, either.

What a shame about the hamster, YL, but they are short-lived, aren't they? Two years is about average, I think, although my DDs never had them. All children have to learn about the relatively short life of any pet, but it's a hard lesson, and particularly so for your DS, bless him. Another 'unfair' situation. :( So you support MIND? I already support a number of charities, but I've been looking at MIND, because of the mental health problems DD2 has had. I'm still considering it atm.

Today, I've cleaned the bathroom (which OH is about to mess up cos he's decided he needs a shave!), sorted dried washing, swept the conservatory floor, and potted on some plants that desperately needed it. Also, planted some fritillaria corms which a kind elderly neighbour gave me a couple of days ago. He'd obviously been talking to my Mum, cos he called me by my full name, and Mum's the only one now who calls me that. The conservatory floor, although it has needed sweeping for a while, had to be done because I knocked a plant over last night, just before going to bed, and really couldn't be bothered to do anything about it then. Still, all done now.

We're awaiting a man who's coming round to give us an estimate for taking out our very thin and messy hedge, and replace the fence between us and our new neighbours. Once that's done, we can plant a wildlife friendly hedge instead. :)
  • Thanks Bearcub. We have had a few different furry creatures over the years and its when they die that you wish you hadnt got them in the first place!! But as you say its a lesson kids need to learn. I caught DS looking at bearded dragons on the internet last night. I gently suggested that when the hamster does go we maybe need to leave it a while before we replace him.

And yes like you I am so aware of the effects of mental illness so MIND is a charity I try to support. They work with younger people too, although my son isnt really in a place where anyone can reach him at the moment.

Sounds exciting getting the new fence done and a wildlife hedge is a great idea.

Well 4 bin bags full of clothes for MIND to collect, one bag only fit for rags and one bag for ebay. I have had enough now although I might go through the shoes in the cupboard in the hall because no-one can actually put anything away in there. I suspect its full of kids trainers that dont fit anymore!

But before I do that I am going to have a quick sweep up of leaves outside before it gets dark!
  • Afternoon Messies!
FA - WOW, it`s great to hear from you again! I too have a desk, but I haven`t seen the surface of it for many months, it`s under a pile of carp about a metre high in the bedroom. I expect to find it soon during Project Bedroom....but I`m not rushing as I`m determined to sort the room out properly, in stages....

Donna, the soup sounds lovely, I have soupy phases too, especially this time of year. Re the laundry gloop, where did you find the Borax? I looked for some a while ago, and all I could get was something called `borax substitute`. It didn`t dissolve properly, so I stashed it somewhere in the caravan of Doom...

Yorkshirelass - when our kids were young we had several hamsters over the years - they sometimes try to go into a kind of false hibernation, so never give up & bury them till you`re really sure. Warm them (gently!) Your little `hamster coffin` probably did just that. I used to wrap ours in toilet roll and sit with them up my jumper (body heat) till they started to fidget. Of course, one day they really do die, and I`ve told this story on here before - sitting there with a dead hamster at my bosom, not wanting to give up because it always revived before, and crying like a big kid...

Bearcub, your wildlife friendly hedge plan sounds great. Our messy wild garden could do with a bit of time spent on it, but I`m concentrating on upstairs & just the `basics` for now.

Chez-Emm - Progress upstairs!! The clothes-rail thingy is now assembled (that was a hoot!) with only very mildy frayed tempers...and the bedroom still looks bigger than before because of all the clearing out I did the other day.
I`ve also done more Daftie-dog bedding washing, been to Mr.M`s, and got a shoulder of lamb in the oven. Sorted the fridge out before I went shopping (inspired by Nigel Slater!) and shaken LR rugs outside (very hairy) and emptied ashes..
Next today I`m about to Henry LR and hearth, then make a fire.
I`ll also put the heating on, I`m putting a couple of fleece blankets I `found` upstairs in the WM, so they can dry in the doorways upstairs this evening & finish off airing in LR overnight.
Early night, as work in the morning but only till 1pm. Lovely!
Hope you`re all having a good weekend.
Drags self off to play with Henry...

Not much going on here today tidying wise. We went to the town and ended up buying some gifts. I've decided to try to get a lap quilt made for my mum, but 6-7 weeks doesn't seem like a very long time. We shall see. Bout a couple of FQs and some binding so it's all down to me just cracking on with it. We bought some decorative logs for the fireplace so will sort them tomorrow and that's one more step towards being "finished".

    Have a good weekend.

That's a lovely story, Emms. Well done on the bedroom clearing, and I'm not sure whether to hope that Henry wanted to play or not. ;) Borax shouldn't be hard to find, either at a good 'ironmongers' (or whatever they call them nowadays) or a chemist.

Sadly, the gardening man didn't turn up, or return OH's phone messages, which is very unusual for him.

YL, our DD2 didn't want to be reached for a long time. It was only when she got very involved with her partner, that she realised that her mental state might scare him away. It didn't, bless him, he was quite prepared to stay with her, but just didn't know how, or if he should try, to help. Mm, maybe I'll look into the charity a little more, thanks.

All this shopping! I must admit I've looked up some possible prezzies online, and I've got some ideas for others. I seem to be totally uninspired this year.

Have done a WM load, fed friend's dog, and dusted the lounge. That's about it.
