My home is a mess

  • Hi all

Have read all your posts, my brain hasnt absorbed everything but I have read them I promise.

Welcome newbies. AM, you go easy. The pregnant with toddler bit I remember even though its a while back. Decide what really matters to you in the house and do that - slowly, a bit at a time. I am like you, the mess really irritates me so its no good saying ignore it. If things get really tricky is there anyone who could come and help you for an afternoon? Or a nice granny who would take the toddler out for a bit. Anyway you just take care and try not to do too much.

This weather is dreadful - still raining here. Hope everyone is OK and not affected by the flooding. I have been inside all day working on my laptop and didnt get even get out with the dog because DH took him.

And Alec I sympathise with the money stuff. DH cant get on with the job he is meant to be doing because of the weather so no work means no money coming in. Just what we need right now. We do save for winter so I am not too worried but its still a pain.

Oh and Xmas shopping - I spent nearly all day yesterday shopping online. My sister thinks this is cheating and is somehow not "proper Christmas shopping" but I spent hours finding things for people which I dont think is lazy at all! Anyway a good chunk of the present buying is done which is good.

Off to go and update my Xmas budget spreadsheet and I should really make some meal plans and food shopping lists but that is very boring and I am lacking the inspiration to do it.

    (corners, JPS, what corners?)

Ahhh I knew I could count on my fellow messies! Thanks everyone for the support and kind thoughts about the impending cold - I feel better tonight. Still a little achey, but started sneezing so I think it is coming out as it were.

I'll be getting an early night with a hot water bottle or two... eeh, can you keep up with my antics?

Hope everyone is well, and floods stay at bay.

Evening messies, and welcome new folk!

Back to work already, Emms? That's gone quickly!

AM, as YL said, do take care, although I can remember how different the situation is when you're expecting the second child. MiL fussed terribly over me when I was expecting our first, but when I was expecting the second, I had to just get on with it. Mind you, I wasn't working, and DD1 was 3, so not the pressure you have. Do what you can do, and try to rest when you can, but I bet it's almost inpossible.

Jps, you just have the snuffly bit to go, then, but I hope it doesn't get too bad.

YL and Bexterregga, are either of you in a risky area? I know that Worcestershire has been hard hit in places - seen the pics, and I know Yorkshire has suffered greatly in the apst from flooding. Keep safe.

Considering the SW, Dorset and the New Forest (just across the water from our end of the island) have had such problems with flooding in the last week or so, we've come off quite lightly. The horses are sinking into the mud in the paddocks, but they do have hard standing by the gate and the water trough. I donned my boots, and went out into the back garden to put out some new fat balls for the birds, and found that the lawn is now a pond. :( Still, compared what others are having to deal with, it's bone dry!

Have had a busy day today - swept the kitchen floor, washed that and the bathroom floor, cleaned the hob and work surfaces, sorted dried washing, and folded/put away as appropriate, cleared away all dried washing-up, dusted the lounge, made a list for shopping on Wednesday, and mended three pairs of riding gloves that had small holes in them, and have been sitting on my chest of drawers for months. they are now whole (as opposed to hole) again, and put away.

Lots of parcels arrived today, some courtesy of a survey company - a new single duvet for when the DDs come over. DD1 always sleeps on the sofa, as does DD2 if she comes over without bf. Also, C prezzie for OH (wellies), which I've found a clever hiding place for - not a lot of those in this house. Other prezzies have been delivered to Mum's house across the road, so OH doesn't even know about it. :)
  • I have two too, an English and a German Lop, they live in the house all the time. They're out and about whenever I'm at home but we have an 8ft x 4ft pen in the living room where they sleep and sulk. The Lop can be pretty aggressive but we're finally (after 3 years) making some headway with her.

I couldnt even tell you what breeds mine are! One is a lop, the other is a half lop - his ear sticks up. I might as well mention their names just for a extra giggle - the one with the ear sticking up, he's Milka (affectionately referred to as Milky or Radar due to the ear) and his little friend (the snipped one) is Oreo.

    :rotfl:

On the subject of gender with bunnies - we always found we had less trouble with males then females. Females can be very protective as is their nature. Oreo is the only male we've ever had to get neutered in the 17 or so years we've kept wabbits. :o
  • This is our first time with buns other than Rex buns (the velvet looking ones). We've had males and females before. we ended up with this pair for no reason other than they'd been in the rescue longest. They'd been dumped and nearly starved to death so had been through a load of trauma and Big Grey (Rooney) has blocked tear ducts so she looks a mess half the time and it looks like an expensive thing to care for, even though it isn't. So it's no surprise she's a grump, she's a happy bun binkying about and all that but just isn't fond of people. The other one (Bundy) has a lovely nature and enjoys being stroked sometimes but most of the time they're just happy to be with each other.

Had a lovely lie in today as DH went to work early, it gave me plenty of time to mull over who I think should win Sports Personality of the Year as that's what the topic of conversation was on the radio. Quilting and general puttering for me today nothing major I don't think. Have a good day all.
  • Hi All!
Back in the old routine again -Bearcub, the week off did gofast, but I had a lovely shift yesterday. Busy but very satisfying, and good to see my colleagues and a few of the same patients again. I don`t start till 3 today so had a lie in this am. Nice, because getting up early yesterday was the hardest thing...

AM, I remember only too well several Solid Months of nausea, and the way it was glibly referred to as `morning sickness`!! I do hope it soon passes for you, but in the meantime rest as much as you can, and as YL says, try to enlist a bit of help in any way you can. People are kind, if you let them be.

JPS, now is the best time to have a cold as you`ll be over it before Christmas!
Well done those who`ve got ahead with the Christmas shopping. My big puzzle is what to get for DS`s GF, and he announced this morning that she`s coming over for a few days on Saturday. I could try to fish for clues while she`s here, but that never worked before...

Have a decent day all. x

I got so bored of OH's TV choices last night that I decided to try to clean the microwave. Not sure if this is because I've decided its unlikely OH will treat me to a new one for xmas or because I'm trying to show him he should! After over an hour of scrubbing (and 2 goes at microwaving a bowl of water as recommended on this thread!) I've downgraded its status from "utterly revolting" to merely "pretty disgusting" - which is progress. Might tackle it again tomorrow night - tonight is pub quiz night so no dreadful TV tonight!
  • Hello Everybody!

Just a quick post before I head to work....

Bearcub, the flooding has been worse near the place that I work. The golf club and surrounding fields were flooded! No golf for the rich and famous for a few days!

Just had the landlady round to inspect the fence. We had a really good clean inside the house, but she didn't come in! Ah well at least things look clean. She is ordering a new fence and panel, hoping that the fence will be repaired by the weekend; next door have 2 dogs so don't reall want them coming over to poo in the garden!

Hope you are all doing ok, will catch up with you tomorrow
  • Sonastin, your microwave description made me go and look in mine (I don`t use it much, DS is the main user) and mine is pretty grim! I`m going to do the bowl of water thing/wipe with microfibre cloth next, before I go off to work.
    Today I`ve done loads already:
    Dog-bed cushions in WM
Thorough cleaning of both upstairs & downstairs loos.
Chicken (thighs) with harrissa casserole in SC for tonight.
    Cut toenails (!)
Dead-headed my lavender patch (didn`t know I should do this till a colleague told me yesterday!)
    Poo-picked.
Re-filled birdfeeders. Saw 4 Brambling out there today!

DD phoned - saw her consultant this am, she`s going in in the morning to be `started off`. At last!!
Drags self off to get ready to go to work....

It's super sunny today so I've done quite a lot of laundry, first load is dry and ready to be put away already! Also cleaned out the buns, fed the birds, swept downstairs, tidied a few bits and bobs away and am still endlessly working on this flipping quilt. Have a good day.
