My home is a mess

Hi Messies!
Welcome HowardWillard, I can totally identify with what you say there! Although Alec E is quite right, some tasks are `ongoing` therefore never completed & done with.
But other tasks (like when I started `Project Bedroom` a couple of weeks ago, and got halfway...) get left because you have to prioritise with the `basics`, and work, life events, etc. I think at least I made a decent start and got something done, the rest will keep till I get inspired/have time again!
DD & DGS went home yesterday afternoon, and came to my ward on their way out for my colleagues to have a peep at him. (only to the ward doors, not inside) . Even though we were very busy they all wanted to nip out and have a `coo` and gurgle at him! (I felt awful really because I don`t coo & gurgle at other people`s new additions!) I`m just glad they`re both safe and well.
Re crafts - most of my life I`ve loved messing with cloth and yarn. I learned to use mum`s old treadle sewing machine when I was 10, and for years I sewed , knitted, embroidered, made personalised rag dolls/teddies - everything bar crochet! Now my hands are not as agile and I haven`t the spare time, so don`t sew or knit.
I`ve had a hankering for some time to MAKE PAPER...I even have a starter kit & a couple of books on this craft. One of these days, when I have some spare time...
Have a good day, Messies. x0 -
OK I need new carpets and a furniture for the lounge and a new bed or beds, some curtains too...but I don't want to spend in case I have to move because I cannot afford the rent/council tax/bedroom tax depending on what happens in the future. I am dependent on the State mainly due to health problems and it changes from day to day so my budget is limited.
I can live with what may be seen as "Old" or second hand and there is no one to leave anything to when I leave this world/if I go into a home.
My home is a bit messy I guess but I am trying to do something about it.
So I am decluttering(I was anyhow but at my own pace)but as the HA want to visit I am having to move a bit quicker.
The good news is that if the rooms are less cluttered it is safer for me as mobility is a bit of a trouble, less clutter means I do not need to clean as often or it can be done quicker especially if there are not many ornaments that collect dust.
So cupboards are being emptied. Creating space.
And at the end of today the bedrooms will be tidy, the toilet and bathroom, the landing, hall, the lounge and dining room too.
But I need to sort out the kitchen badly.
However that is the house done...
Then a lick of paint on the outhouse walls and some major rubbish clearing there and it's sorted. As I buy very little for the home hopefully it won't bui;d up again.
I suppose if nothing else knowing someone wants to call it gives you a kick up the...and makes you do something about it.

Afternoon Messies and welcome Howardwillard. You sound so desperate but, as Emms says, life does get in the way. So, maybe, it's a case of starting small, something you know you can finish, as alec e said. Baby steps is the saying on here. Washing up and cleaning the bathroom are jobs which have an end to them - for that day, anyway. It's hard, but try not to look at the whole mess, but break it down into small pieces, even if it's just emptying the bin!
Alec e, I have a friend who took up making mosaics about 4 years ago. She sent me some photos, and she's produced some wonderful projects.
Emms, I sometimes wonder how you have time to breathe, never mind anything else! I have a pattern for rag dolls, always intended to make some, never did.
Warmer day here today, but showery. Garfy is bored, and I've thrown him outside once, because he kept attacking Star. Trouble is, because he's so big, it's easy to forget he's really still a kitten. He's a wicked cat! :rotfl:
I've sorted the dried washing, and cleaned the bathroom. I've put washing in the WM, but haven't turned it on yet, as OH is cooking, so I'll only get in his way. I have to dye my hair this afternoon - something I always dread doing, but is never as bad as I think it's going to be.0 -
I agree about breaking things down into more manageable tasks...a great idea."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Welcome Popperwell. I heartily agree that `old` stuff (or 2nd hand) is fine, if YOU like an item it doesn`t matter about newness. In fact, that`s part of my trouble, because I do actually LIKE some of the stuff I could do with de-cluttering. In my experience, getting rid of `old` stuff and creating a bit more space only means there`s space for more clutter! (usually DS`s) Nature abhors a vacuum, and all that!
Bearcub - my hair needs doing again soon, and I HATE it too!!
Bits done - 1 load in WM, bins filled, put out/emptied & brought back in, chicken & veg in casserole pot in oven for tonight, v.garlicky...not doing spuds, using Aldi part-baked rolls, so lots of broth & hot crusty bread! (can`t be @rsed with spud peeling today) Now have to take OH for appointment in town.
So glad I have tomorrow off, another little lie-in...0 -
Welcome Popperwell. As Emms says, if your home suits you, then so be it. I've got well past the age and stage where I want everything to be new: I leave all of that to my DD2's who, with her bf, has recently moved from a furnished rented flat into their own home. I'm not sure OH is so interested, but I love the bow-fronted chest of drawers that was my MiL's. Beautiful piece of furniture to my eyes, even if it does need some restoration.
Well, hair is dyed, and washing done. Also finished a sewing job that's been dragging on. All put way now!0 -

Thanks,
Being on my own I'm not sure(although it's nice to have a home you feel proud of)if you have no one to pass possessions onto why do you need a lot of stuff which when it has to go, as it will, it will either mean more heartache if there are memories associated with it or those who come to clear houses it will mean nothing to them.
I guess as long as I have a bed, my computer, kitchen gadgets, Sofa, CD's and a few books. I don't need much else. More important is that I have a roof over my head, can eat reasonably well, I would like to be warm in Winter that will do me.
An odd treat now and again...
I guess that worries most of us whatever our situation...
I hate being rushed because someone is coming...might have to stay up and try and catch up on the rubbish overnight otherwise i keep putting off and I know that will be a disaster.
It had to be done(I probably should have painted the whole radiator)but some of the paint came off along the top of the one in bathroom so I sandpapered the area affected and gave that part a few coats of radiator paint. It looks good enough for me and has stopped the rust and got rid of the bare metal.
I'll have to do likewise in what was Mum's bedroom too. So I hope it will be ok when they call.
That sounds so sad but it's not meant to be..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Will do, danetastic. Could it be that shortage of money makes you feel down, so you can't make yourself do much? A sort of "why should I care?" Of course, IF you make the effort, you will eventually end up feelign better, but it's making the effort that's so hard. <hugs>
Popperwell, it's not sad at all, just common sense. My OH is very laid-back about visitors - he says they're coming to see us, not the state of the house. Of course, in your situation, maybe that's different. I have to say, since moving here, surrounded by countryside, and having animals, it's almost impossible to keep the floors clean, but it really doesn't matter anymore. The bungalow is very small, easily vacuumed, but it's also easily cluttered, and that has to be cleared away when we have visitors to stay. Still, it was a lifestyle we chose, very different to life in suburban Surrey.0 -
Well since yesterday I've done 4 loads of washing and can now see the kitchen floor . I've got the throw hanging over a door and the rest is on driers that go over the bath . Dogs are disappointed tho cos they were using the washing piles for beds .
I had been given a king size duvet that was no longer wanted . Spent an evening chopping it into 4 and stitching the edges eh voila 4 lap quilts/dog beds . Just to make covers for them at some point . Am thinking of patchwork ones . As they are smaller I'm now able to wash them in my machine too . BONUSDate restarted DFW 30/04/16
