My home is a mess

Danetastic, I have also chopped up old duvets to use up as dog-beds. Well done on the laundry front/finding kitchen floor! Mine needs a good mopping/scrubbing, it`s a bit of a thoroughfare from LR to back door/outside, so wet mucky weather makes it pointless!
I`ve been working this morning, shopping & visiting yesterday, so all I`ve really done in the house has been cooking and clearing up the consequences! Working all day tomorrow, so any real attempts at de-messifying will have to wait till Friday/weekend. And then I`ll tackle some Christmassy stuff....
Hope all Messies & Lurkers are well, we`ve gone all quiet again...0 -
Evening Messies.
Danestastic, well done for the conversion, you've a lot more patience than I have!
Not much done chez bearcub today, because OH and I have been out trying to get our Christmas shopping finished. And, we ahve apart from one prezzie that I had to order online when I came home.
Had the delight of a visit from our local PCSO - lovely man. I called the poloice yesterday, because our cul-de-sac is being pestered over and over again by a solar company. This PC, bless him, tried to ring the company today to ask them to leave us alone. Apparently, though, the manager wasn't in today, so he's going to try again tomorrow. Sadly, genuine companies are quite entitled to do this, despite the fact that there are quite a few elderly and vulnerable people in the road.0 -
Hi everyone, been feeling bleugh for the last couple of days. Fuzzy head, achy, sicky tummy, cant get warm type of thing. Not so bad that I need to be in bed or anything just feeling grotty. Of course because I am not in bed the rest of the family assume its business as usual!
Mind you I have managed to do some paid work today. Had something easy to do and thought I might as well be sitting in front of the laptop making a bit of money. The one thing I didnt manage was taking the poor dog for a walk so he is now a bit loopy! Just couldnt face the snow and the cold which is very unlike me.
So the housework is a bit neglected so far this week. Got a meeting with various people about DS in the morning and I know from past experience that I will feel completely drained afterwards. I find dealing with emotional stuff very tiring and it is all very emotional at the moment.
So I guess all I am aiming for is a quick swish round on Friday with the hoover and a bit of dusting here and there. I did notice that behind my bedside cabinet its looking a tiny bit (ahem) dusty so thats one to go on the list.
And as for having lots of new shiny furniture - its not going to happen here and I have long since stopped worrying about it. Our bedroom furniture was cheap flat pack stuff from Argos 16 years ago and is still doing the job!
Take care all - keep safe if its snowy/icy where you are.0 -
I am exactly the same when money is tight and i feel bad the house goes downhill . I have decided I need to sort out my house, breakdown last yr plus work and Uni as a single parent took a massive toll on the house.. and then I got laid off 3 weeks ago. I have sulked, !!!!!ed and moaned for 2 weeks and this week I have decided I need to sort myself out soooo I have started the long and sad task of undoing the clutter I have amassed over the last year or so.. Monday I started the bedrooms I've cleaned out the wardrobes as I piled on weight when I had the breakdown, after a year of therapy and some good friends I feel reasonably sane and the weight is coming off so I have got rid of my fat clothes. I've sorted out all the clothes that are too small for my DD and sent them to charity along with books and toys she's grown out of. I'm actually feeling like a weight is lifting from my shoulders which is great as I have a dissertation to write... hopefully I can maintain this momentum0

Hi YL. Sorry to hear you've been feeling awful, but I suspect that all the emotional turmoil doesn't help your levels of resistance to germs. Bedside tables are funny things from my experience. Lots of stuff gets dumped in a very small space and, when you move anything, you get a really nice pattern in the dust - the dust that hasn't made a nice cloud when disturbed.
And, hello, MetalMand. Not sure we've 'met' before, but I have to say I have huge respect for you. Some people (as you have) go through so much, but that sounds like fighting talk from you, so there's still 'you' in there! You go, girl! And please come back in here when you need encouragement, or a push.0 -
I do think it easy to fall into not bothering just as when alone it takes effort to feed yourself and avoid eating simple food such as say Beans on toast. Not there is anything wrong with such meals as often they are nutricious but when Mum was alive I had more of a reason to bother as I got pleasure out of giving pleasure to someone else who was special.
I do try on my limited budget to vary what I eat but as I eat less anyhow my meals are mainly cereal, fruit, vegetables, smaller amounts of meat and fish. Mainly salads or stews in the slow cooker and many could be seen as what we probably ate as children or in wartime. It's comfort food.
I do agree if you are fortunate to have friends or family that hopefully they come to see you otherwise they are not true friends I suppose.

Well done, Popperwell! :T
I sympathise with the food issue. My OH does all the cooking of meals (I only make the very rare treats of cakes and puds) - it's not that I can't cook, but I find cooking meals very boring. If I was on my own, I just know that I'd be very lazy about what I'd cook. I admire my Mum, who doesn't eat a great quantity, but she does eat well, despite saying that she rarely feels hungry. She's doing pretty well for 84!0 -
Bearcub,
We probably eat more than we need anyhow. Considering how I like food it seems strange eating less but no I am not hungry, I don't think that I am. My weight stays quite consistant and as I have medical issues I am sure if I was neglecting myself, it would show.
I don't have to stick to set times so eat as and when I wish and perhaps there is something about eating less but more often rather than sitting down to a big meal. I remember my father saying always leave the table feeling you could eat a little more.
It's funny so many of my meals now are usually one course and I seem to forget to have a dessert. I can bake and am quite good but being alone sometimes it seems easier to buy rather than use an oven even though home made means you know what is in it. Also, I am quite pushed for space in the freezer."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

All our meals are home cooked, with local produce, as much as we can manage. OH had BP problems (blood pressure that is, not the oil company, although we both worked for them! :rotfl:), and was advised to lose weight. We didn't really eat big meals but obviously more than we needed because now, if we go out to eat, we often find the meals too big. Mind you, we've found since moving here, that IW people do love to pile up the carbohydrates on their plates! Pud is usually fruit or, for me, occasionally a yoghurt, or ice cream in warm weather. We do live a fairly active lifestyle compared to many here.0

Morning..or so the clock says!
YL, hope you feel better soon x.
MetalMand - welcome, sounds like you`re getting somewhere now.
Popperwell - I go on about food a lot on here, I love cooking and using fresh foods, but I wouldn`t bother with half the stuff I do if it was just for myself.
Bearcub, I only do puds when DS`s GF visits, nobody else here likes a pud, so I don`t bother just for myself!
I`m off to work in a few mins, just running the engine to de-ice...brrr.
Keep warm All!0
