Good to see everyone, hope the weekend is going well.

Yeah, tree is up and probably very early but it's my house and I like shiny things so why not? It's very 60's and I love it. No idea what I'm going to buy for my mum now the quilt is toast will have to have a poke about next week and see what there is.

Today we need to put the decoration boxes away, I need to iron a shirt and collect tons of laundry up and shove it in the bag. DH has done the washing up and the floors and is currently wrapping Christmas gifts. Nothing else is going to happen today other than coffee and watching ski jumping.
  • Hi Messies!
MetalMand - you sound better already, there`s something about being able to say a task is completed that`s quite uplifting. Hope lurgied child is soon full of beans again!
Bearcub - DGD is easy, it`s when the menfolk get `man-flu` that I would really rather be at work!
JPS, great to hear from you again - yes you DO miss folks when they haven`t posted for a while, but it`s quite understandable if they`re on the Monday to Friday grind. And I love that "tidy LR & pretend the rest is tidy too" idea!
Buffy, great to have you back too. Happy Messy Anniversary!! I don`t feel medal-worthy, but you & JPS - and anyone else whose work is with other folks` kids week in/week out certainly deserves medals and more! Most (though not all) of my patients are elderly, and some do have child-like needs and behaviours, but mostly this is very endearing rather than stressful.
YL, you`re a loving mum but you are a person too - it sounds like you`ve had some good advice there, and you`ve recognised the fact. Easier said than done, but it makes sense.
Alec E - your post made me smile `you like shiny things, so why not?` I like Yellow things, and in my recent domestic rummaging I found a huge piece of yellow fabric that I bought ages ago...I think it might be sari material, the colour of old-fashioned egg-yolk, and it`s quite shiny too. I`m going to use it in the bedroom when I finally get the room sorted properly! And well done on ditching the quilt you didn`t like too.

    Messy Status Report -
Had a message from log-man, he can deliver a load early next week.
DGD is all showered/shampoo`d/brushed & un-dagged (a lurgied child resists hairbrushing!!) her bedroom is ready for Henrying, and the hall is full of carp from her room that needs disposing of. Some to skip/recycle, some to DD`s some to CS. I`ll do that tomorrow.
The rest of the house is draped with dry laundry that needs putting away, and today I`ll put another WM load on, just towels. SC smoked ham, chips, and HM tomato sauce (tired tomatoes, need using!) & `frilly` fried eggs for tonight, so need to peel the spuds, get that out of the way early.
I`m going to get on with sorting the stuff for the kids` `stationery hampers` this afternoon, as soon as DGD has been collected by her mama.
Have a nice Sunday All! xx
  • Am painting the bathroom.

I used to enjoy DIY. but I have literally lost count of the amount of times I have painted the bloody thing.

and I LOATHE painting bloody cellings. even small ones!

Still I guess it won't take that long once I start on the colour.

(and lets not start on the !!!! I found in the bathroom.)

nor the fact that I have to go out and get money for the dog groomer and petrol. nuts.

    xx
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • I hate painting.

nearly done had to stop cos I was hungry.

    ugh.

and the piggies need cleaning out.

  • ugh.

and the piggies need cleaning out.

    same here!
it'll wait a few days for me, though, as have got tendonitis!:o:o
  • Buffy - I hate painting, but I found I didn`t makes as much mess (drips, runs, etc) with one of those little sets of pads rather than brushes or rollers. I still got paint in my hair though... Your weekend away sounds good. Nice to have something to look forward to.

    I`ve been in a Time-Warp.
I`ve been looking at my rota so much, needing to double-check with OH about his shifts/lifts to work, and with DGD`s mama about when I`m here, and with DD about when I`m not here....think I developed a rota-blindness! I LOST A WEEK!
I`ve got a `marathon stretch` from the Friday before Christmas, but I`d overlooked the week before that somehow. That`s the week with 4 consecutive days off.
Thought I was running out of time to get stuff done, but I`m SO chuffed now I`ve realised my goof!!
Spuds done, DGD has left the building (without trashing her room again in the throes of departure), all dry laundry put away, more wet stuff hung around to dry, bins out for tomorrow. fire just lit. Haven`t done the stationery sorting, but I`m going to stop and take it easy now, enough done today.
Taking OH in to work in the morning, so I`ll be up early and then get cracking again tomorrow. Hope I`m still on a roll...

Emm, the medals definitely go to nursing and caring staff - stroppy teenagers are a constant challenge but at least I don't have them round the clock!

Kids (even other people's!) also have those endearing qualities though. A naughty group I've done a lot of work with for the last couple of years made me well up the other day - they got their music teacher to call me in to listen to them play a whole piece in perfect time without a single bum note! Co-operation isn't their strong point, to say the least, but I'll treasure that moment forever - they were so proud of themselves and so wanted me to see what they had achieved.

I've had a lovely day here, took Mum over to see my very elderly aunt, and did a fair bit of Christmas shopping too.

I caved in and bought a little tree for £10, a live one in a pot. It'll sit on the table next to the telly, and hopefully I'll be able to use it for the next few years before it gets too big to bring inside. I haven't put a tree up for years - and, not only that, but I got some lovely violet curtain lights that look gorgeous (I'll probably leave them up all year, they're so nice). I feel all Christmassy now!
I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

    Evening Messies.

Jps, I often found teens scary in school, not because of their behaviour as such (although it was starting to get that way when I left), but because of their height! That must have been a wonderful moment for you, showed how much they respect you, and confirming that you're where you should be. Ah, baby tree! :) Our artificial one is looking a bit pathetic. It really needs to go on top of a cupboard, but we daren't this year. :(

Quite a happy moment, then, Emms, finding that you have an extra week. The rest of us just have to put up with real time! ;) No, really, I'm pleased for you that you won't feel so rushed. Will you be off-duty for Christmas? I don't have a man who's never suffeed with man flu. He may catch a bug that has him in bed for a day (but I don't think he's done that since we moved here), but that's all.

    Buffy, just <hugs>

Today, I've finished writing cards to be posted, and letters to go in some of them. I suddenly noticed that there was quite a lot of mould growth round the patio door in here, and this is the room where DD2 and bf will sleep. Stardrops to the rescue! :):) I had to drive over to a friend's to pick up fair trade goods for the stall at the drop-in centre tomorrow. I'm pleased to say that OH has packed all the boxes into the car for me, bless him. Oh, and I've done a WM load. Not bad for a Sunday, but tomorrow could be a problem. I'm at the centre in the morning, meeting up with a friend for lunch - that's not a problem, in itself, I hasten to add - then I'm supposed to be pushing leaflets through doors in the afternoon. Think the latter may have to be postponed until Tuesday.
  • THE BATHROOM IS FINISHED and tidied and I had a bath.

am exhausted. and hate painting, even tho it was nice to tick it off my list!

hope everyone is ok. am dreading work tomorrow.

    xx
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Morning Messies!
I wonder where that roll I was on yesterday went....? It ain`t around here today!
I`ve been up since early, dropped OH off at work, nipped into town & got another pressie off my list, and filled up with petrol on the way back, I`ve put away the dry laundry again, and then just run out of steam!
Feels like I`m wading through treacle this morning, so taking a caffeine break...

JPS, that`s a lovely tale about your `naughty` group, Bless`em - no wonder you welled up!
Buffy, well done on completing the bathroom job. Hope you & JPS both have a decent week at school.

Bearcub, the relief I felt when I discovered my rota goof has evaporated this morning. I think I need to make a realistic to-do list now and stick to it.
I`m on long-days the Fri/Sat before Christmas, Sunday off, then long-day Christmas Eve and a late Christmas day. So everything has to be done & sorted early... I do at least have more time off before that than I`d thought, so SHOULD be able to do it all if I space things out right.
    Must get going again...
