I had a really productive Sunday but then OH's computer had a meltdown which meant OH had a meltdown which a) stopped me from posting my triumph last night and b) took the shine off the day.

    So the good news...
kitchen cleaned to within an inch of its life - almost all worktops clear and homes found for loads of the bits of stuff that were hanging around. Just the corner with the recycling bins to tackle but until OH learns how to lift the lid and put stuff INTO the bin instead of on top of it, I'm going to be blind to that corner!
bathroom is now sparkling. I shouldn't really think "that's a job I don't need to do for another *ahem* weeks" - if I did it every week, it wouldn't be nearly so bad!
got 4 loads of laundry done dried and put away
made roast dinner for mum & OH with pudding. from scratch

but then spent the latter part of the evening trying to work out what was wrong with OH's computer. I think the conclusion is that it is terminal. Luckily my Gran has very generously given us each £200 for xmas so that will fund a new one but we had both earmarked it for bits and pieces of treats that'll have to go by the wayside. I hate technology - it used to be so much easier when you could fix stuff by tapping it with a hammer!

Work this morning isn't helping either - I've got that wading through treacle feeling too
  • Evening Messies!

Sonastin - sympathies re the computer dysfunction. Mine was a PIG of a thing till the warranty ran out, then I could allow DS to open it up & deal with it, and he quite cheaply replaced all the troubled bits, re-programnmed it, and now it`s trouble-=free better than ever. OK, he`s a messy, un-domesticated, disorganised, hoarding,self-opinionated, kitchen-trashing etc, etc, but my lad DOES know what he`s doing with computers! Everyone has their saving graces.

Phew, what a day!! Freezing fog all day, and I think I`ve spent more time in the car either de-frosting or waiting at long-winded temporary traffic lights than actually driving! Even though I nipped out to my car for my break (that I didn`t get till 2pm!) & ran the engine, I still had to defrost it again by 5pm. OFF again now for 3 days, and dear OH, Bless`im, has insisted I DON`T take him in tomorrow & has booked a taxi.
Had a strange shift, busy but very bitty, but quite nice really.
I got home, slowly, just before 6pm.
Discovered that log-man has been today, when I took Daftie-dog outside (against her better judgement!) saw log-shelter is now full to capacity & that`s a lovely sight in weather like this.
Made a fire, a veg soup (potato/leek/celery, blitzed) & roasted some chicken thighs, put the juices into the soup & grated some parmesan in as well. Went down great.
OH fed & off to bed early, gave me breathing space to do a list, for tomorrow.
(One of the items on it is a list for the next few days. Baby steps, list-wise!)
FIRST job on list for morning is check & re-fill all the bird-feeders. It`s fearsome cold out there and they need folks who feed regularly to keep it up now.

    Goodnight all, keep warm.x
  • I`ve been SUCH a busy Messy today folks!
Washed 3 fleece blankets & DGD`s fleecy underblanket. Don`t know what she`d spilt on them but it had set like concrete! I left the CH on last night in fear of frost damage, so fleeces hanging around upstairs all day nearly dry now.
Posted Best Friend`s card & pressie,
Bought last 2 Christmas pressies, and a huge ham-on-the-bone for DD.
Fed the birds (first job today) and now need to re-fill the black sunflower seed-feeder again cos they`ve HAMMERED the stuff today!
I`ve collected all the crafty/colouring/stationery stuff from various hideyholes and got it all spread out on the bed ready to parcel up for the various young recipients - got loads more than I thought, as I`ve been bargain-buying since September.
Supper sorted - chicken/ham & leek in HM sauces with herby dumplings.
Still need to bring in some coal & logs, and take out ashes while it`s daylight - I was going to do that before, but got distracted studying the beautiful frosted-up cobwebs outside till I got too cold so came in here for a coffee and a warm! Then get fire lit before I go pick OH up from work.

Drags self off to fill coal-bucket....

I was shamed into cleaning today....
I heard that my friend who doesn't clean (seriously, she has between 2 and 12 dogs in her house at any one time - breeder - and her house is ALWAYS 6+ inches deep in dog fur) was vacuuming her house for some visitors
I blew off work today - outside? teaching? in minus 6°C? jog on! - and decided to blitz the house.
    Today I have:
put new bag in Henry and put full one in green recycling bin
cleaned and descaled the loo (it was minging) :o
cleaned the bath with the biological washing powder trick
    cleaned sink with same
changed the beds x 3 - put on underblankets and flanelette sheets for warmth
tidied and sorted bedrooms x 3 (DS#1 room was a tip ) put loads of stuff away elsewhere in house - WHY can't they take stuff and put it back?
vacuumed all the carpets (LR, porch, office, DS#1 room, DS#2 room, our room, top landing, stairs, both half landings, dogs bit, dining room, bathroom)
cleared off dining table, we can now sit to it and eat from it.:j
    washed the bedstuff x 3
dusted the fireplace/mantelpiece/surround (with the vacuum attachment :rotfl:)
straightened out my desk after HWTHMBO jigged it to reach the radiator controls (yes THAT long ago)
cleared off my desk into a large carrier bag and started dealing with the paperwork from the bag
    walk dogs twice
been to another friend's house to fix her printer (needs another go tomorrow)
collect DS#1 from school (26 mile round trip)
collect DS#2 from x-country (10 mile round trip)
make quick tea for both (omelette) ready for Cubs/Scouts
ferry DS#2 to cubs - got there, no meeting
    feed dogs
boot up PC to see why no meeting, download emithers, deal with emithers, read subscribed posts etc

To do tomorrow - cuz i'm too Knack'd to do any more:
kitchen - [STRIKE]clear up newspaper and sweep/vaccum floor, wipe surfaces, clean cooker[/STRIKE], make banana muffins & carrot cake, clean kitchen again, think of something for tea (may involve bacon).
utility room - [STRIKE]clear up newspaper and sweep/vacuum floor put down cardboard instead[/STRIKE], dib out bacon in 8 rasher packs from bulk pack.
[STRIKE]put Henry away[/STRIKE] - think he needs a rest after all this cleaning he's not used to it.
[STRIKE]fix friend's printer again[/STRIKE] it's the cable, need to tell her to buy new one
[STRIKE]walk dogs three times[/STRIKE] - one more walk to go
sort out paperwork from carrier bag
    sort out garden magazines
contact agency re interview last week (should know outcome by now)
    [STRIKE]look at job boards[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]look on MSE[/STRIKE]
taxi children to/from assorted after school places

I had no idea how much I'd done, or how much there was left to do....

OK i'm off for a shower (in my nice clean bath) and then bed (snuggle in my nice clean bed with warm bedcovers).
    Night all
    FA
    xx
just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
    DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son
  • WOW, FA!! That`s an awful lot you got done the other day. And I thought I`d been busy! Nice to hear from you again. Your friend with all the dogs/hairy house - sounds like my kind of person!

I`ve washed more rugs & dog-bedding, mainly to make the most of having to keep the heating on 24/7, while it was freezing. but now it`s just raining again the heating`s off till late afternoon as normal.
Little headway made yesterday, but lots to do today, before I go back to work at the weekend.

Hope all absent Messies are well. x

I've been all smug and angelic all week but today it went to rat-!!!!!!!! After rendering the kitchen spotless at the weekend, I've been really diligent about clearing the dishes every night after dinner, running DW every night, unloading it every morning. OH has been doing his part by putting his lunch pots in so the kitchen surfaces have stayed clear all week. Floor is getting a bit mucky but nothing that a quick sweep/mop won't take care of.

Anyway, today was our office christmas "do" so we were going out for lunch. So I didn't get around to emptying the DW as I wanted to leave early this morning. OH emptied it but left stuff out coz he didn't know where to put it. Somehow managed to put some of his lunch pots in DW and left some out - male logic I think! And because I had a big lunch, I didn't want dinner and made OH make his own while I baked a cake. He put a couple of his dishes and then said "I'll leave it for you to do the rest" I went to follow him out of the kitchen saying I'll do it later and he called me a slob  I might be less of a mind to kill him had there been mostly the cake stuff left but it was 80% his dinner pots

He "finished" off the DW, and then I had to rearrange his efforts to put the rest of the stuff in that he either couldn't see or couldn't fit. There's still a baking tray which couldn't fit in - I'd have washed it if I wasn't so bloody ANGRY with him.

So now my perfect kitchen is back to normal. :(

But the cake is nearly ready. Yes it is the chocolate beetroot cake that I promised to make about 3 weeks ago - only just got around to it:rotfl:

    Evening Messies.

Wow, some of you have been SO busy!

FA, can anyone really do all that you've done? You'll meet yourself coming back again, if you make this a habit! ;)

<Hugs> Sonastin. Not sure I could put up with your man, who seems to blame everything on you if he's even the teensiest criticised. I don't blame you at all for being angry - so would I be! Enjoy your cake, at least and don't give him any.

I've had a week that's been pretty busy by my standards (bear in mind that we're retired, and to a place that moves very slowly), but not really much de-messying. I was organising the church Christmas lunch. I'd rather organise paperwork than people, tbh, but the truth was that, if I organised people, then I didn't have to do any of the cooking, which is fine by me! It was all very different to how we've done things in the past, but all was very successful.

De-messying - over the past 3 days, I've done a number of WM loads and, since it's been very cold outside, the heating has been on a lot and the washing's dried pretty quickly. The bathroom's been cleaned every other day, the house has been vacuumed, the C tree decorated has been finished (despite 'help' from the cats), half the prezzies have been wrapped, and cards and letters all posted. I must change our bed tomorrow if possible, but I have to be in a couple of places sometime in the afternoon, so we'll see. DD2 and bf are coming over on Monday for a couple of days, so I can safely write off those days for getting anything other than cleaning the bathroom.
  • Sonastin - sympathies for your kitchen, your OH sounds SO like my DS!!! That cake sounds strange but hope you enjoyed it. Actually, I was intrigued by the Masterchef final - green olive and pistachio cake...sounded weird too, but they loved it.

Bearcub, glad your church lunch went well. You sound like a good organiser, and it makes more sense to use the skills you have rather than muddle in with all the others cooking!

I`m off to work in a few minutes, but at least I don`t have to defrost the car today.
OH helped me colour my hair yesterday as the lass who normally does it wasn`t available till weekend, and I`m working when she`s free. It was getting pretty desperate. So I slapped the stuff on myself, OH just helped with the rinsing really, as that`s something I can`t manage without completely trashing the bathroom, and it`s turned out ok.
Messy-wise,,, not too bad here YET - but I``l be out all day and DGD, DS, and Daftie-dog will be here to trash the place by the time I get home!

Have a good weekend all x.

    Afternoon Messies.

How lovely that your OH helps with your hair colouring, Emms. Since we had our bathroom refurbed, I daren't colour my hair in there. Instead, I put an old towel or two on the end of the bed, prop the mirror against the wall, and colour my hair there. Trouble last time, was that one of thr cats was rather too interested in what I was doing. I always rinse my hair in the shower: don't actually have a choice as we don't have a bath or a big enough kitchen sink.

Very mixed weather here, but much milder. I'd like to put a load in the WM, but it won't dry before Monday, and the only place I could put it is in this spare bedroom.

    Morning messies!

I know what you mean about teenagers' height bearcub... since when did 12 and 13 year olds get to 6 foot and over?! When they're taller I have to make them sit down before I can tell them off!

I'm poorly with a bit of a cold, but not too serious - I think I'll live. I am however embracing the excuse to loaf about eating whatever I fancy instead of proper food, hug hot water bottles and generally feel sorry for myself

I'm appalled at how much the gas and electricity is costing me now. This time last year it was about £30 cheaper for the month, and I've used much less.

How are your shifts over Christmas Emm? I've just got one week left, after which it'll be a bit of a dash to get at least downstairs tidy for Christmas day. After that, I might get some more stuff done around the house, we'll see.

More coffee needed now, then a few chores. Happy Sunday everyone!
