Afternoon Messies.
Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly, jps, but enjoy the lazy day as much as possible!Don't think our bills are much higher yet. Or, at least, OH hasn't said anything about them. Mum's been in her bungalow for about 15 months, and we only realised (or I did - OH reckoned I was 'fussing', I think) that she's been on the wrong tariff, so her bulls were higher than they should have been, especially bearing in mind she has solar panels. We've now had the tariff changed and, of course, the energy prices have all gone up! Ho hum!
DD2 and bf are coming over tomorrow to stay for a couple of days :j, so I've some clearing up to do. Not really any cleaning, as the place isn't bad. They'd quite like some space to sleep, though, so I must clear this room and, so that I can make space for some boxes from here, we have to put away decoaration boxes that are currently in the conservatory, and put two dining chairs in the garage. downsizing is all very well until someone comes to visit.
What is going on with this forum this weekend? Three times over yesterday and today I've tried to get onto the forum, only to get 'bad gate' - whatever that is. Are there problems?0 -
I had problems getting on yesterday but put it down to the joys of "rural" internet service. Sounds like it was actually MSE that was having problems.
My perfect kitchen is back again :T Well almost... bought too much veg in aldi so had to remove veg for tonights dinner from the fridge to make room. I'll be going in there to prep it soon so not too worried. The kitchen will actually be better after dinner's been cleared away. OH took the recycling out so the "ignored" corner no longer needs to be ignored. I've rearranged it now so that there is nothing living on top of the recycling bins so he has no excuses for not putting stuff in them now.
I intended to do so much more this weekend but somehow, the weekend has completely passed me by. I honestly couldn't tell you where the time has gone. I spent some time yesterday decanting spices into jars and making up my "takeaway secret" hampers for christmas presents but I don't remember it taking all day :undecided Still, kitchen is lovely and christmas shopping is all done so that's something to celebrate. Off to prep veggies for dinner now...0 -
Hiya, sonastin. I'm glad you've got your kitchen back into a decent state again - it obviously really upset you. 'Too much' veg is rarely a bad thing, I find, because OH and I happily eat veggie meals - a 'habit' left over from when DD2 was living at home. I do love meat, but I'd easily exist on mainly veg if I had to - as long as I didn't have to eat most types of beans! I don't know where time goes, either.
I've washed the kitchen floor today. It should have been done yesterday when I did the bathroom floor but I left it too late. It wouldn't have dried before OH came in, and I could guarantee that there'd be mud trodden on it. I've cleaned the work surfaces and hob, cleaned the bathroom, cleared away most of the boxes from thsi room, where DD" and bf will sleep. I've also sorted fair trade boxes for tomorrow's drop-in centre - not that I'll be selling it, but I have to make sure that everything's there that should be there.0 -
Hi everyone Iv read some of the posts but looks as if Ill need a few weeks to get through them all.
Bearcub my kitchen floor needs doing every day due to the animals treading dirt in. Hopefully yours has stayed clean.
Iv been busy cleaning today as my mother arrives for a few days. Iv had a good tidy of each room over the last few days so a top up clean has kept them decent.
Still a few bits to do for christmas and then all done.
JPS get better soon.0 -
Hi Messies!
The forum was `closed for maintenance` this morning when I tried it earlier, so hopefully the problems are sorted.
JPS, hope you shake your cold off soon. I`ve got FOUR days off now - but then I`m working solid apart from Sunday and Christmas morning. Not grumbling, as I`ve got the shifts I volunteered for, and I always like to work at least part of my Christmas day. If Christmas means anything to folks other than the tinsel and eating and buying stuff, it`s about loving and giving, but not just in the material sense. Seems to me appropriate to be in there with my patients, especially the ones who can`t go home for a few hours `leave of absence` or haven`t got folks who visit them. I`ve got a couple of days off again after, we can relax and enjoy the seasonal gluttony a bit then!!
Bearcub, although I have a `spare` bedroom I still had to clear the LR sofa last night as a friend of DS`s visited and decided to `crash` here!! Enjoy your DD & BF`s visit.
Sonastin, well done on reclaiming your kitchen. I don`t want to tell you about mine. I WILL deal with the rest of it later. I made a huge pork curry last night, but OH & I had ours early-ish, went to bed & left DS & friend to it. Mistake, that was. I have already cleared & cleaned sink, scraped curry/rice/ salad bits off everything, washed pots & cleaned worktops, taken rubbish out to various bins, but the floor is still resembling a midden that got hit by a windmill. Me & Daftie-dog going in & out hasn`t improved matters (she follows me EVERYWHERE now, hoping for her next dose of pilchards!) Daftie-dog has licked at a few `interesting` patches of kitchen floor but it hasn`t even left little clean spots!
Snookey, Hi! Lovely to hear from you. Your post made me chuckle when I read `the animals`, I thought of my DS & his friend! I`m not far off `sorted` now, but have to do everything by Friday as work will take over after that. I THINK I`m on target, have time in next few days to finish what I need to get done....
OH has suggested the pub this evening, and I`m tempted....no, soddit, I`m convinced!
Drags self off to tackle the midden....0 -
Afternoon Messies. Just a quick call in as our visitors should be here soon. :j
Snookey, our cats don't make the kitchen floor dirty, because they come in via carpet, or window sills. So we end up having a very grubby carpet which, of course, is considerbaly more effort to clean.
Oh dear, Emms. Messy young men, huh? My OH is a great cook, and washes up, but he's also a very messy cook. Not sure if it's carelessness, or he can't see without his glasses. You're obviously a natural carer, and that shines through everything you write about your job, bless you. Oh, and about the fact that I organised instead of cooking for the church meal - I'm a pretty fair cook, just don't enjoy it. I've found that I'm not too keen on 'co-ordinating' people, either.0 -
Hi All.
Did I say that I thought I was on target? Daftie-me, I really thought... but today I`ve spent ages in transit (not far, but time-wise) just dropping off 2 pressies & the cards - a combination of crawling through traffic and staying for the `brief` seasonal chat...
got home feeling quite frustrated about where the time went, but my own fault because I hadn`t factored in the TIME that the bit of catching up takes.Time is a gift too, and it`s personal. OH has reminded me (not unkindly) that the folks I went to today would probably have rated the time I spent with them higher than the pressies/cards I dropped off, and that time should not be given grudgingly. I am now chastened and very glad I went. And glad OH is a wise old dear, Bless`im.
So I got into a better mood, and made a quiche (tired mushroom and sweaty cheddar, bit of mustard, eggs to use up) and a few chips & finished off the HM ham with it. We watched Nigella on i-player while eating, and I !!!!!ed & heckled, a safe way to let off steam!
And Daftie-dog has been Pilcharded again - I gave in! we had a bit of a chuckle trying to imagine Nigella in my little kitchen with an aged canine haunting her every step.
Upstairs is Chaos, and will remain so I suspect till Sunday at the earliest.
Tomorrow I`ll do a bit of caravan tetris, and get the Christmas tree up, try to get LR as clear as possible for the duration.
One day at a time, and all that. x0 -

HopefulMS - how MEAN to spring a flat inspection on folks so near Christmas! Still, it`s a good incentive to get things done, and lots of people not being inspected but having visitors are having to do pretty much the same. It`s de-messifying Under Pressure - different sort of pressure, but still there, the deadline.
My deadline is tomorrow evening, before work takes over again. Not for visitors, just for us. OH, DS, and DGD & me. OH is lurgied. Actually, so am I but I am telling the lurgy I don`t have time to wallow with it so Go Away....not sure if it`s working, but I made a `medicinal` roast chicken stew today, with a whole smoked garlic, big lumps of fresh ginger, and veg-leek/carrot/parsnip/sprouts/a few spuds all cooked slowly in the biggest vessel that fits the oven, and all nicely soggy & bread-dippy by this evening. I`ve had a small bowl & feel revived...
OH has had seconds and gone to bed, all going to plan so far!
NOW, I`ve phoned DD & got her list for FarmShop tomorrow, done my list too.
Need to gather a few more bits that I`ll drop off at hers tomorrow with fruit/veg/eggs.
Wrap a couple of things for OH while he`s out of the way & hide them!
Put tree up...might have another bowl of the `medicinal` chicken brew when I`m done....better get started!0 -
Emm-in-a-pickle Dead line it was too!, Still can't believe the attitude of the inspector though, OH has filed a complaint (she was extremely rude!) Chicken Stew is the best for a Lurgie!, Hope you're all feeling well again by Tuesday!:xmastree: My Mum made me a big bowl to take home (dumplings and all!) for the next week (the freezer in the fridge fits seven potion tubs, so that's a bonus!) And Me and OH have been Lurgie free for a couple of days at least (TOUCH WOOD):D1924 Sealed Pot Challenge 2013 Money at the moment-£64.30 :j:j
