I am exactly the same when money is tight and i feel bad the house goes downhill . I have decided I need to sort out my house, breakdown last yr plus work and Uni as a single parent took a massive toll on the house.. and then I got laid off 3 weeks ago. I have sulked, !!!!!ed and moaned for 2 weeks and this week I have decided I need to sort myself out soooo I have started the long and sad task of undoing the clutter I have amassed over the last year or so.. Monday I started the bedrooms I've cleaned out the wardrobes as I piled on weight when I had the breakdown, after a year of therapy and some good friends I feel reasonably sane and the weight is coming off so I have got rid of my fat clothes. I've sorted out all the clothes that are too small for my DD and sent them to charity along with books and toys she's grown out of. I'm actually feeling like a weight is lifting from my shoulders which is great as I have a dissertation to write... hopefully I can maintain this momentum
Hi MetalMand. Your story is not dissimilar to mine. I'm not a parent thankfully but I recognise the breakdown, weightgain and all that stuff. You can do it and thrive. Sounds like you're off to a good start :j0 -

Bearcub, I only do puds when DS`s GF visits, nobody else here likes a pud, so I don`t bother just for myself!
That's the problem here, I quite like cooking but when doing for yourself...I'm determined to have a traditional Christmas Lunch even if on the small size. I was invited by my remaining auntie and uncle but they live so far away taxi costs £25 each way and the buses are not good at any time but at Christmas I doubt there are any.
TBH the taxi's will probably be more expensive. It will be a one spent on my own. Like so many.Thank you Bearcub and Emm... I feel like im getting somewhere albeit slowly. Today i'm going to tackle the landing and hallway... wish me luck, I may need it!
I am making some headway. Rightly or wrongly I dragged all the rubbish out of the small bedroom where I could hide it away onto the landing and it is so untidy I have to make myself clear it away because it is difficult to get passed it all.
If I had not been receiving a visit from the LL soon I would have done this job at my pace and left it where it was but I assume he will want to go into every room. So it is the landing that I am working on too.
That will be sorted today even if I stay up all night!
I am about to get the shredder out so I can get rid of old documents."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I didn't used to mind the winter but now it seems a pretty miserable time. Perhaps I associate it with all the bad news and difficult times with Mum in the last few years. And if it wasn't for people trying to brighten the dark days with cosy times with family and friends(if you have any)and Christmas etc...it's pretty sad.
Well, I have dug out the paper shredder so we'll see what I can dispose of.
Think I'll try and get enthusiastic and cook a meal in the early evening instead of just having sandwiches. The plan is simple, oven chips, ham, mushrooms and eggs and perhaps follow it with rice pudding.
The stew and dumplings sounds rather nice though.;)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I've done the vaccuming today (not that it takes long in our tiny bungalow), and cleaned the bathroom. I found out that, depsite me thiking that the new loo was all nice and clean, limescale has been building up big time under the rim, so I had a really nice time cleaning that. <rolls eyes>
I had to go and feed a friend's dog, as said friend has gone out straight from work. Came in, switched the kitchen light on, and the lights all blew, because of the dodgy light fitting in the kitchen, which OH has been 'going to do' something about for nearly a week. Ho hum.0 -
I may be the only Messy posting today, but my place is messy enough for 10!!!
DGD is in residence since yesterday, (off school with a foul throat) & DS has been `cooking` soft foods for her....trashed the kitchen, needless to say. I can`t describe how it looked when I got back from a long shift yesterday. I was tired & naggy, so I chose to rise above it as I didn`t have the energy to explode! Just cleared what I needed to to do supper, then relaxed...sort of.
Had a quick tidy in LR this morning, no point doing a full strike in here as DS has a couple of mates coming soon, (so it`ll get worse before it gets better!) and OH & I are going out soon. Escaping to the pub! (We think we both deserve it).
I`ve been shopping to Aldi, bought some gingerbread houses (£4.99) as nice little presents for folks with kids, along with my `stationery hampers`.
Have to change trousers, got wet & soggy legs again!0 -
DH is off work today so we've been out and about. Decided to stop wasting my time with the quilt for my mum as I just don't like it and it was making me hate quilting!
Not done much about the house today, I need to clear up after the stinky buns and I think we're going to put the Christmas tree up tonight, eat stollen and watch Scrooged. Fingers crossed I don't find any tinsel from last year under the sofa!0 -
Afternoon Messies.
Shaem about the quilt, alec e. I did get the feeling that it wasn't going particularly well. What are you going to give her instead?
I don't blame you, Emms, for not wanting to tidy up when your DS is having friends around, as it's likely to be a total waste of time and energy and, let's face it, you don't have a lot of either. I don't blame you either for going to the pub. Spoil yourself!
Neve been in an Aldi, but OH and I were in Lidl on Wednesday, where they had lots of lovely little bits and pieces for kids, at very reasonable prices. I almost felt it was a shame I don't know any children.
Have sang my first carols of the season this afternoon - at a residential home close to here. Never been in there before. there was one lady who was convinced that 'sing a song of sixpence' was a Christmas carol. :rotfl:0 -
Wanted to do so much today but I can't seem to pull myself out of the downer I'm currently in...plus DD has the lurgy and we are both tired. Maybe tomorrow will be better.0
