Hello Sonastin. :) Yes, we're in the western 'corner' of the diamond. I hope it's failry clear day, and I'll wave back. ;) Have a safe journey down.

You amaze me, Emms, that you don't totally collapse once you stop rushing about! I hope none of the shopping's frozen stuff, so you have to put it away, then take it all out again.

Hi all, can I join in, was diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) last week so have been decluttering and moving furniture around to make my home more light and airy. Have joined a couple of the other threads on here - and have found reading the backlog and joining in has made me feel a lot more positive

My house is my castle and I desperately want to get on top of the housework again (its not a tip just organised chaos lol!), as i have been at home for a couple of days due to SAD, i have done loads of decluttering and kitchen looks amazing, also on top of washing and ironing and everything is back in its normal place - just need to start cleaning now, thanks for listening x

Hi donnajt - welcome to the messies! If you've started from the point of organised chaos, you're one step ahead of most of us... I can only dream of organising our chaos.

I haven't been diagnosed with SAD but pretty sure I've suffered with it in the past. I currently have a desk by the window at work and insist on the blinds being open even if the sun is blinding me. Drives me boss mad but his desk is behind the pillar so its only when he comes to my desk that it affects him!
  • Bearcub - thanks for your kind words! I do a sort of visual collapse (ignoring the mess when I`m too pooped to do anything more about it!) DD`s wasn`t frozen stuff, but she`ll freeze some herself, justfresh veg etc & fridge stuff - wasn`t a problem, it was cold enough sat in the boot of the car. All safely delivered, just lit the fire & got another load of eggs boiling ready to pickle!

DonnaJT - I`m glad you`ve found the `Messies` thread helpful, and it sounds like you`re getting on well with things. I`ve always felt more lethargic and de-motivated when the days are all grey, so I`ve often wondered about SAD myself. Are there degrees of severity, I wonder. Anyway, good luck with dealing with it, and keep posting to let us share how you`re doing.

Tomorrow, I`ve decided I`m not going ANYWHERE, going to stay here & tackle at least a few hours` worth of sorting bedroom. I`ll use the `timer` idea, and time my breaks as well - see you all then!

I just resent spending money on anything I can't eat or play with really! It was pointed out to me that out of all the lights in the house only one has a lampshade...oops! I'll get on it eventually. In the meantime it's just less to dust and look shabby :P

Thanks Alec :) to be honest, once I've caught up with blogs etc on the internet I'm not too bad. It's just getting going in the mornings! Especially when I'm off work, I have so little motivation.

Well done for everyone's achievements today :)

  • Hey Messies,

I've been way off the radar of late, mainly because my laptop has readched the end of its days! I bought it in 2006 so I guess thats a good lifespan for an average laptop. Have borrowed on temporarily until I can find a new one to buy.

I am on holiday from work, I don't go back until 22nd Nov! Have lots of nice things planned but I have been slacking on the cleaning up. All I'm doing is covering the basics really! Today I have managed to go out and get the food shop doneand everything is packed away in its proper place!

MM I do like your timer idea - very disciplined!

Welcome DonnaJT, we're quite good in this thread. We'll try to motivate but we don't tell you off if you can't be a*sed one day! :rotfl:

Welcome, donnajt. SAD is awful, and I think more of us suffer with it, even a little, than we realise. With me, it takes the form of wanting hibernate on darker days, but I have to go out every day, to see to the horses, which helps give me a push start. I'm not recommending (in any way!) that you get yourself a horse or two, but something that you have to do, preferably outside can be useful.

I love it Messies really is a good label for me - head messy, house messy, doesn't help that I have flu either. I have suffered with depression for many years and taken anti-depressants since Winter 2009. I have been feeling really bad since September, the worst being falling asleep at a moments notice - most embarrassing was falling asleep in a training course with my manager and head of department, I even snored!!! it was funny). Husband forced me to doctors last week and basically I go to Doctors once a year between Sept-Nov when my depression gets worst, so there is an obvious SAD pattern.
    Key Symptoms of SAD
    • Depression
    • Sleep Problems
    • Lethargy
    • Over Eating
    • Loss of Concentration
    • Social Problems
    • Anxiety
    • Loss of Libido
    • Mood Changes
I have all of these and more lol! Its a liveable condition and I have to go to work, unfortunately I have just moved offices and I have no natural light - which is not making my life easy at all, but my manager is aware of my diagnosis and I will be making sure something is done about my working conditions

Most of us suffer with the winter blues - which most of us suffer with esp after xmas when the bills come in and payday is so far away, the best medicine for SAD/Depression/Blues - is being outdoors - bit of exercise and lots of fresh air

You are all lovely and I have at least four (maybe 7) days a week when I can't be a*sed lol!

Thank you bearcub - luckily for me I already suffer with depression and take anti-ds, so its not like I suddenly become very physically or mentally ill. I must admit I am l loving being home but I do need to get back outside or I will never leave the house again...am planning on doing my Avon deliveries tomorrow and then back to work on Tuesday (I only work a 3 day week Tues, Weds, Thurs) so got lots more time to un-messy myself...well a girl can dream!

I had given myself a list of jobs - esp as everyone was in bed by 7:30 - I have literally sat on the laptop ... off to put white wash in so its dry for morning

Left to me, donna, I'd be in a CBA frame of mind every day! :rotfl:
