    Hi all,

Just having a catch up, just skimming posts, to see how everyone is. I'm worn out after the weekend but we had a great time with our visitors. Look forward to jumping back in on Tuesday!
  • Hello!

Just sat down, been at tennis comp today, got home earlier than expected so I DID THE IRONING!!! I can now confess that i haven't done any for the past week...........or two........:o!! All sorted and put away now though!!

Emm, tatie pot is basically stewing steak with onions, carrots etc, black pudding, stock and then peeled chunky potatoes on top. Cook until the potatoes are cooked through and crispy on the edges! It's a really easy one pot supper for us, the kids aren't too keen on the black pudding but they enjoy the rest! It's probably called something else in other parts of the country!!

Back into the school routine tomorrow!! Yippee!!

    Jxx

I'm feeling all super-smug just now... I am cleaning the oven as I type! OH had a self-cleaning oven in his old house so he brought that with him when he moved and fitted it into the new kitchen in this house. (OK this is the confession bit) - it hasn't been cleaned since it was fitted around easter time! But we've set it to clean mode now and I'm all excited at the thought of having a clean oven!

OK so there's some smelly fumes around at the moment and the electric meter is pretty much freewheeling at the moment but should soon have a beautifully clean oven for nothing more than a wipe with a cloth so its all worth it. I hate cleaning the oven (hence getting ready to throw away my microwave so I don't have to clean it!)

Re Cleaning Microwave. If you put a bowl of water in and set on high for a while the steam will loosen all the muck. Sorry if i'm teaching yoiu to suck eggs!

Not at all - didn't know that one ;) I'm still holding out for a new microwave because this one is REALLY minging but I'll keep that tip stored away to help me keep the new one clean :D
(because I know for a fact that I'll only be diligent at keeping stuff covered and wiping up spills immediately for a couple of months!)

I think I've mentioned it before but there is a crack on the door of this. I tried to use the safety argument to make OH agree that we needed a new one but he pointed out the main door is fine & the crack is just in the cosmetic covering. So now I'm working on the "its nearly christmas" argument. And eventually it'll be in such a state that it'll walk off the counter on its own and into the bin :rotfl:

    Afternoon Messies.

Oh dear, the thread is getting a bit hit or miss, isn't it? So sorry I've not been around. Lots of 'stuff' going on, some of it wonderful, some of it just indifferent, and one very unpleasant situation Ive had to deal with, that's ongoing, but no longer my responsibility - someone causing a lot of trouble with others, and I was there to witness it. :(

FW, well done on the tatie pot - wonderful name! Wish I liked anything like that but, since I was very young, I've really disliked stewed beef and lamb. We won 4 mini bottles of wine in a quiz a while ago - 2 red, 2 white - and OH made a lovely coq au vin on Sunday. Very scrummy, and works wonders on supermarket chicken thighs. :)

Sonastin, I'd still worry about the microwave. The waves themselves can do some nasty damage, so take care!

Sadly, Emms, we've had to stop feeding the birds atm, until we get a collar on Star. We've half worked out an idea for the tree feeder, but will have to rig up a pulley system to re-fill it. OH has also come up with an idea to fit a tray onto the trellis for the ground feeders. Star does climb on the trellis, but she can't do it without making a lot of effort and vibration, so the birds can't be taken by surprise.

Great news that our local Co-op has started selling Island milk! :T Until now, 80% of island milk goes off the island, then mainland milk gets brought in. No wonder we've so few dairy farmers left.

Chez Bear - much the same, really. Bathroom being cleaned nearly every morning, vacuuming done today. Just about managing to keep the washing under control, but the kitchen could do with a clean-up. C cards are coming along very slowly, not helped by me being out quite a lot recently. Still, I'm getting there, but not quite sure where 'there' is! ;)

It all sounds like progress to bearcub. Sorry to hear you had to witness the bad thing, never good to be dragged into something that's not really your business.

Things are going ok here. The house was in a pretty good state after the weekend so instead of doing my normal routine I've worked on getting everything back to normal. So instead of doing my priority laundry and leaving the spare room until I have time I sorted out the spare room first. So now everything's the same level of tidy if that makes sense. Now I can forget about the spare room until next time someone wants to stay!

Hope everyone else is having a decent week even if it is a bit chilly.

I think I've got the idea, alec e. Sometimes our priorities change, don't they? Just as well, really, as life can get very humdrum (lovely word! ;)) Thanks for you sympathies. In a way, it was my responsibility, in that the person concerned was representing the same group as I was, and the group as a whole got a lot of flack.

    Hello, MM! How are you?
  • Hi all,

glad you are ok bearcub! Nice to hear about the milk, we are dairy farmers and i love to hear that milk is being produced and sold locally!!

Took my mum shopping this morning (always very stressful!!) then did jobs round the house this aft. Had a meeting at school about the congestion on the road at home time, the man from the highways agency was no help whatsoever!!!

Not sure what i'm doing tomorrow.......................
