Here's a picture of my quilt in case any of you are interested. Hope it works, isn't too big and all that stuff!
  • Wow! That's amazing, alec eiffel. A huge well done to you!!
  • Hi Messies!
Alec E, that`s a beautiful quilt! I love the colours & how you`ve mixed them. I`m sure your guests will enjoy their stay with you.
McCulloch, well done on your small victory, but I`d have used an old nail-brush (quicker than tooth-brush but not as harsh as the wire brush.)
Gilly, half-term dates vary across the country but I hope we`ll be hearing from Buffy & JPS when they`re off.
Bailey`sBabe - I do so agree about keeping your list `manageable`, I think unrealistic `to do` lists have been part of my problem in the past.
FW - hope your day at the market goes well.
YL - sympathies for the muddy paws...our muddy paws days are over now as Daftie-dog won`t go on very wet or muddy ground like she used to!

Well, 3 days off now, a long shift on Saturday, then new rota starts Sunday. Lovely! Just dropping 7 & a half hours a week means no marathon stretches, and I feel so optimistic about getting on top of things properly at home. Taking OH to another meeting this pm, then a cosy fire and a chicken stew (leftovers from the chicken dinner with loads more veg.)
I`ve changed LR rugs, we`re now officially in `winter` mode as the woolly rugs are back, cotton ones stashed in caravan of Doom till next year!
Drags self off to shower/change etc...

I have a confession... I have just stashed and dashed something instead of finding a proper home for it as I just can't think of anywhere for it to live.

 welcome back to the dark side :rotfl:

I've been in an odd mood all week. It sort of feels like demessying isn't happening because I don't feel like it but somehow, the house hasn't turned into a complete sh!thole. I'm not sure how its happening. Work is all scr*wy at the moment too which isn't helping my mood. I've booked a days holiday on friday because I just don't want to go to work :rotfl:

I think we might be in a semi-messy state because OH has been doing something about his mess. He had one of his periodic rants at the weekend about the build up of paperwork - he pointed at the pile in front of the TV that was my stuff and demanded I do something about 'all this mess'. Later when I took him a cup of tea in the garage & he asked about it, I demurely replied that I'd filed my paperwork and I'd help him with his later. So when he came in and the pile in front of the TV was gone and everything else was still there, the penny might finally have dropped. His paperwork is still all round the LR but he's tidied the utility room and the bedroom :D and somehow they seem to be staying that way.

    Tomorrow I plan to:
    -do the dw hokey cokey
    -laundry
    -clear draining board
    -tidy & sweep hall floor
I realise that isn't much of a list but I thought it better I make it manageable and do it instead of listing everything that needs doing and do none of it because it looks to daunting.
    Evening
I managed 3/4, the draining board is a priority for tomorrow, but in addition to today's list I also:
    - swept the kitchen floor
    - cleaned the bathroom
    - a few hours administration for local group

Tomorrows list is going to be very short as we are out most of the day, I plan
    to:
    - clear draining board
    - laundry
    - dw
Alec E I love your quilt, the design is fantastic.

Thanks for you nice words about the quilt.

The stash and dash has been dealt with, the place I stashed it to is now where it lives! I don't know if anyone else has anything in their house that they know they need to keep but it just doesn't quite fit anywhere. This is my issue, we have 3 programmes from gigs DH went to and they are flipping HUGE, I have no idea why, they don't fit on any shelves and don't fit in the place where we keep all the other stuff like that so now they live at the bottom of the mini airing cupboard under the out of season duvet. Not ideal but at least I'll only see them twice a year!

Deep clean continues today, we went grocery shopping last night and it cost a fortune considering it's only for a weekend but it all looks yummy! Have a good day everyone.
  • Morning Messies!
Sonastin, your OH may be getting the message!
Alec E - your post made me chuckle! Glad you `found` a home for the stuff.
BB - short lists are definitely better! I`ve got a VERY short one for today, that is -
    1) washing towels, hang outside -Done!
    2) Pickling eggs (another lot, these are for DD)
    3) clothes sorting, maybe another couple of WM loads.
(tomorrow`s forecast is sunny & dry and I`m off)
    4) do a quick `tetris` in caravan of Doom.
    5) roast a duck (YS!) later.
I intend to try to do more than this today, but sort of `sneak up` on stuff!!

Last night`s chicken stew was yummy, I`d washed up after it but there was still a fair bit left in the pan. I was pondering whether I had enough freezer space for it but when I got up this morning I found DS was having it for breakfast! Sorted!

Emm - can I ask how you go about pickling eggs? To me they are vile and disgusting things and I've gone as far as leaving the room if a jar is being opened. But OH loves them - and frequently uses the threat of them to torture me! Seeing your post made me think that it could be a cheap xmas present for him if I made up a jar - to be kept in his garage obviously! But as I've never gone near the things I wouldn't know where to start on making them!
  • Hi Sonastin - pickled eggs very simple to do - hard-boil the eggs, cool, peel, put in a jar, fill jar to top with pickling vinegar. Ready to eat in 2 weeks, keep for months (unless they all get eaten!!) Hardest thing is finding a good jar & estimating how many eggs you can fit in to fill it! You can fit more in after they`re cooked & shelled, so a `dry run` with the raw eggs doesn`t help!! Also it varies according to the size of the eggs, you can get more in if you use small eggs, but the big ones are SO much nicer.... Some folks like the white vinegar but we like them `brown` in the proper stuff. I get a large (2.5 litre) plastic flagon of the pickling spirit from our farm shop -£2. Most greencgrocers etc sell the stuff this time of year, probably supermarkets too but I`ve not looked.
Once the eggs are all eaten you can use the same vinegar again, and put another lot in. Give it a go, your OH will love you for it!
