Buffy, rest assured that there can be an end to the plastic boxes and to the feeling that you're going round and round but not getting anywhere.

When I was first sorting the house I thought plastic boxes were the answer and I ended up with dozens of them filled with all manner of stuff. Now we have 3, one is a lidded Ikea recycling box with nothing in it and the other two have lego and toy cars in them. The rest were given to people and taken to the charity shop. It can happen, it just takes time.

I have to do a lot of little tasks today, mainly putting things away, so nothing major to report but things that put together will make a difference.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Wow thats some going Buffy well done. I know where you are coming from too Alec with the storage boxes. I went through a stage where I thought we needed more storage and bought wicker boxes to put stuff in. Then I realised I just fill them with junk so I got rid of them again.

Been for a session with the dog trainer this morning so I need to get on and do something productive this afternoon. Dont feel very motivated though!

Gettingready - those are beautiful cats!

Oh and Cat and Bearcub its nice having you to talk to on here even if we never meet. I dont have any friends. Thats a bit embarrassing and I am not sure how it happened but I used to juggle working very long hours with looking after the house and kids and somehow lost touch with everyone. Then my son became ill which makes it hard to socialise and now its easier to not even try.

I am not sleeping great either. Woke up last night worrying about DS2 starting secondary school tomorrow!

Right off to make some lunch and get some tidying up done.
  • So lovely to hear you've found a couple of friends here YorkshireLass. There's a lot to be said for online relationships like that - you can say what you really feel without the baggage of people you've known for ages because they have preconceptions about you that just don't exist online.

I just returned the ladders to the garage and realised what an utter junk hole it is, so I've worked through the shelves and chucked some stuff away and set up two piles - one for the tip (I can't drive so DH has said we'll go at the weekend) and one for the charity shop, the cs stuff is stuff I know has to go but it's tough to actually let it go... memories and remembering how much it cost. But it needs to go so it just has to leave.

    Afternoon Messies.

Now I understand why you feel lonely, YL, so big <hugs> to you and, yes, talk to us. Send a PM if you want!

    GD, re the photos :rotfl:

Buffy, that's really impressive de-messying! I agree, it's very easy to start packing things away, and think that's the way to clear the mess. Sadly, it's likely to be a very short-term solution, isn't it? Although obviously not the practical solution for most folk, we found the best, although the most expensive, way of cutting back on 'stuff' was to downsize. We moved from a large 3-bed semi with big garden, to a small 2-bed bungalow with small garden. We just had to clear our drastically, both before and after moving, although a lot of the extra had belonged to the DDs.

Cat, I've no idea what's making me wake up. I've had a few concerns about DD2, but that situation seems to be ok now. I lie there, quite comfortable, and just can't drop off. I thought it might have been messing around on the computet till late, and was turning it off earlier, but that made no difference. One thing's for sure, I won't be getting a milky drink - can't stand the stuff!

Must go and do the paper clearing I didn't do yesterday, and clear some breakables away, ready for the arrival of the two little 'uns tomorrow.

Think it's going to be a fairly early night for me tonight. My sleep's all over the place atm - one night, I sleep ok, the next, I sleep in fits and starts. Don't know what's going on.

Dont know how old you are but is it possible you are going through the change? I have good and bad nights too and think it might be the start of it :(
    Errrr...come back later ;)

    Hello messies :)

YL, I know I used to wail (inwardly) "I have no frieeeeends!! EVERYBODY else has frieeeeends!!" Since coming on MSE though, I've realised it's actually far more common than I thought! I know what you mean about it feeling like too much effort, I've only ever managed to retain a couple of friends, the ones who know I'm liable to disappear into my shell for months on end and don't get offended or fed up with it:o

Well done for just getting on and doing the garage as soon as you saw it needed doing alec, very impressive!

    Today I have -

been to Mr T and bought a SC. Ordered a new cooker (been living with one working burner and a completely knackered oven thermostat for over a year now so it really is needed!)

    done dishes

    WDx1

    hoovered hall and living room

brought big ironing pile/board/iron into living room in preparation - probably in preparation for saying "sod it" and ignoring it all night:p

    renewed electoral roll registration online

spent 20 minutes on the phone to Child Benefit because they've boggered things up and not paid me today:mad:

helped dad put my new bathroom cabinet up.

    started tea

    taken out rubbish

    To do:

get washing out of machine, hopefully not too crumpled

    finish making tea

possibly get ready to go to darts, but to be honest my nose is such a mess at the moment I really don't feel at all comfortable about going out, so will probably give it a miss again.

hugs all, hope everyone is ok xxx

Been there, done that about 10 years ago, Wesker. I now mostly need less sleep than I used to, but it's the waking up several times a night that drives me mad. Still, as long as I'm comfortable. :)

Finally got the paper and other waste bin rubbish sorted, and put in recycling bin. Just a couple of pieces that need to be shredded. Suddenly noticed, as I came in the door (our front door goes straight into the lounge) that the lounge radiator was filthy, so that's been cleaned.

Just seen 'our little girl' has won another gold at the Paralympics, and how!

Hi messies, very tired so just popping in to say hope everyone is ok, sorry I have only had time to skim through posts. Bearcub, they're secondary - stroppy teenagers R us!! But they were lovely today, it was so nice to see them all again. I forget sometimes how lucky I am to have a job I love, even if it pays very little.

Forgive me for semi-lurking everyone, hope you are all ok.

Oo, secondary, jps! I was support staff, and that was bad enough. I'm not surprised you're tired. Sleep well. ;)
