My home is a mess

Still awful
And I appear to have scared everyone off with my link!
We are at the point of everything is dusty and in that moment mostly unwanted.
Discussing with Mum why we are in this mess - to be fair the main parts of the house are fine, it is just upstairs that is bad and only just liveable for me, my room is a nightmare. a real serious stupid stupid nightmare.
catch you later hopefully.Nevertheless she persisted.0 -
I did take a look at the link, but my eyes slid off the page and I couldn't take anything in! Those pre-printed checklists always make me feel sleepy.
I can understand how you feel about the nightmare. I used to go round in circles depressed at how bad things were but seemingly unable to do anything about it. It's the worst.
I've done some stuff today, tidied the spare bedroom - put all the decorating stuff away, put the new bedding on etc. Done a couple of loads of laundry and even some ironing which is a rare thing. Having a look for some recipes and doing some quilting now. Have a good day everyone.0 -
Hi folks - I`ve just had a quick read, and a quick look at that link Buffy - was all set to groan at the blogger when I came across the comments under the laundry bit - see, it IS possible to do away with ironing!
I do hope ALL those making the most of the `last day before school` have a good one.
I`ve prepped supper so we can just eat & get off to bed (early shift tomorrow) & cleared the kitchen tops, put bins out, and now dashing off to work...again. Weather is far too nice here today!
Have a good day Messies, catch up with you again tomorrow evening...xx0 -

Afternoon Messies.
Buffy, that link reminds greatly of 'Stepford Wives' - the perfect housewife, with everything in its place. Very worrying, I always feel, and it doesn't make a home; it makes an organised house. I'd rather have a home. At least you can share your concerns about the state of the house with your mum, Buffy. Is she able to help at all?
Gilly, do rest, and I hope you mend soon.
Had the CPL people here this morning, ensuring that we and our house is suitable for the new cats. So, we've been out and bought 'bits' for them, and just have to wait for Wednesday lunchtime to pick them up.
Before they came, I cleared up the newspapers that had collected - why does even the local weekly have so many supplements? My next task is to clear the paper out of the waste baskets into recycling, and clear up our bedroom. There are so many magazines waiting to be read, and papers etc sitting on top of the chest of drawers that I've been intending to put away for a month. Also drawer full of papers - receipts, statements etc - that must be filed before they start to fall over the abck of the drawer or start walking out! I ahve to say that paper, of one kind or another, is my worst de-messying enemy!0 -
Me too bearcub, I hate the huge amounts of paper that enter the house! I have never known a place to get so much junk as we do here. Every single flipping day we get leaflets, flyers, booklets about local stuff, religious literature, begging notes and all that stuff. That's before we have to deal with stuff that comes through the real proper post. Drives me bonkers.
I got rid of the bins anywhere other than the kitchen and bathroom years ago to help stop things building up, it means I have to shift stuff every day, sounds weird but it works for me. We keep a recycling bin under the worktop in the kitchen so I can just dump stuff straight in and some scissors nearby to chop personal bits of paper up (I never get round to shredding). DH is in charge of dealing with all recycling as it's a job I hate and it pretty much wouldn't get done were it left up to me.0 -
Hi alec. Have you tried registering with Mailing Preference? That should stop some of the rubbish, at least. Of course, another paper 'problem' I have is that I make greetings cards, and that generates a fair amount of little bits of paper and card, a lot of which is unusable.
I must go and vacuum and start the job of clearing, now OH has gone out. Bless him, he's just come back from helping set up a direct debit for Mum's water bills, and Mum started 'chatting'. Took rather longer than he'd anticipated.0 -
Hi,
Yes, I've joined that which does help, lots of the leaflets and stuff is just from local business doing a big drop in the street so it's not addressed to me or anything like that. The other stuff is just the general junk that comes in the same envelope as bank statements and things. I just hate dealing with it so much it is a big thing to me whereas it might not be to someone else!
When we moved I was organised enough to cancel all the catalogues I used to get, from Lakeland etc so at least I didn't bring that problem with me.0 -

No you didn't, I've been at work! I'm almost catatonic now so will just post to say :rotfl::rotfl: at the link... love the way everything is in her "online shop" and she says she starts decluttering at the front door... looks like no self respecting clutter would go anywhere near her front door, let alone actually IN the house!!
Don't despair Buffy... get ruthless and bin, CS and give away. Keep going in there for five or ten minutes with a collecting bag and deal with a little bit at a time.
And don't despair if it doesn't get done in one go - the next attempt is easier and it gets easier each time, as there's less and less of it. Reward yourself with a sit-down, surfing or watching tv and a cuppa.
And if that is too much for now, just clear a space to sleep and save it for another day - seriously, sod it. Life is too short to stress over mess.
My spare room of doom, the one that I promised myself would be cleared, cleaned, done up and gorgeous by the end of summer... worse than everbut slightly less in it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but it probably won't be touched until half term, unless some strange transformation comes over me and I get busy in there at a weekend. Nahh. :rotfl:
Hope you are soon up and about Gilly! Glad all went well.
Worky mcwork was not too bad, just an inset day. Madness resumes tomorrow! I really like all the kids I'm with, so am a happy bunny again this year really :cool:I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Hi everyone
Had a lovely day at the beach with the kids - very hot and sunny for once on the Yorkshire Coast! Sitting across from me on the beach was a lady on her own with two under 5s. I lay there on my own while my kids went off and did their own thing and this poor woman was up and down every two minutes with her littlies. I remember those times so well.
Bearcub, thanks for asking. I dont know how I feel at the moment. My biggest problem is being on my own so much - or own my own with DS. I now what is like to feel truly lonely and its not nice.
I still have the possibility of going back to my old job one day a week but it would be working from home and maybe this would just tie me to being in the house even more. What I would really like to do is some work, or even voluntary work that gets me out of the house but I cant do this until my son is in some kind of regular routine.
Ah well, there is always plenty of housework to keep me busy! Gotta go and walk the dog now. He has been cooped up in the house all day and is charging around like an overexcited toddler.0
