Well done, everyone and welcome newbies :j

Bearcub, I noticed a couple of guys in T shirts saying "Gay for Grohl", so I think you'd be in considerable company.;) The Green Day set was at Reading-so DD was there, but not, alas, DS and me. I'm so jealous :p...I saw Green Day on their American Idiot tour in 2005, and our Christmas treat this year is to see the West End show-but it's a poor substitute for the Broadway version that had Green Day in the cast :)

Jps and Buffy-be good to yourselves. There's so much pressure to get everything done by the end of the holidays, but you also need to REST.

    Gettingready-your animals are GORGEOUS :D

Glad it went well, Cat xx

Sorry to anyone I've missed xx

Spent a lot of today "helping" DD get ready for her driving theory test on Friday. Oh my goodness, the hazard awareness thing is hard. I thought I'd sail through it...twenty-odd years of driving experience etc etc, but you have to be so quick on the button and the pictures are so poor...in the end we went out to Sainsburys and hazard-spotted on the way. :rotfl:

And she asked about my theory test, poor girl...WHAT theory test??? :D

    Great news FW!

OK disaster has struck Cloudy Acres. I got up to go to the loo just now and heard the disturbing sound of DRIP...Drip...Drip...

Off I go drip hunting and find water coming through the ceiling of the spare room of doom.

Luckily I had put a load of plastic storage boxes in there and they were just under the drip - and it made a loud noise hitting them so I caught it before it wet through into the floor. If it had dripped over the mountain of clean linen waiting to go back in the boxroom, goodness knows how long it would have taken to notice it.

After sticking a bucket under the drip, and a few minutes of running around breathlessly squeaking in horror, I calmed down enough to go and turn off the water supply (I only learned where that was a couple of years ago!)

It's hopefully not as bad as it sounds - the water is coming from the cold water storage tank in the loft, and I knew I'd have to have the plumber out soon to replace the valve on the ballcock
which has been leaking and overflowing through the expansion tank and out of the outlet pipe under the eaves.

For some reason the pipe going from the expansion tank to the eaves is now leaking (it's plastic so not an old winter split or anything) and dripping through the loft. Looks like that will have to be fixed as well as the valve but at least I know what it is and where it is coming from. Now the water is turned off it has stopped.

But now messies, the true horror dawns on me. A strange person is going to come into my house and see the mess!!!

I will have to hoover the stairs - this is my hang up, they have dust drifts in the corners. Like the plumber is going to be impressed at a hoovered stair carpet, when the rest of the house looks like a dump! :rotfl:

OK well I will have to look up a plumber and make a call first thing tomorrow. I don't think I can sleep now so I may actually finish the boxroom of doom and try to move stuff back in there while the plumber is here, so it looks like I actually do care about my crappy mess, and am doing something about it!

    Then there's the cost...

It's been the summer from hell here - the weather's been crap, I haven't done the things I promised myself I would do (at the very least I wanted to take a day trip or two) and the money I saved by not using the gas boiler to heat up water has now been taken up by having to have a plumber out.

Time for some blessing counting. There are many in my life so I will NOT feel sorry for myself - ok I will feel sorry for myself for a bit then give myself a shake and get on with it!

Hope you are doing ok on those shifts Emm - hope everyone else is doing ok - hang in there GR, hope things improve for you work wise as well.

Yikes, dripping water always strikes fear into my heart!

Had a bit of a rubbish day yesterday, I was meant to be decorating but after about 20 seconds I thought better of it. So then I made a pie using a new recipe and somehow it went horribly wrong even the pastry went wrong! So I had a 15 minute blitz round the house and made it look better, gave the pie another go with good results and complained to DH about how I hate sanding woodwork!

On the good side, the house is tidier than before and DH said the pie and roasties was the nicest meal he'd had all year. Now I write that I think maybe he was saying that to make me feel better...

But today is a new day and I've got over myself. Have a good day everyone.
  • morning,

Oh JpsCloud, I know what you mean this summer has been a mare. from my point of view apart from the Olympics which were brilliant the jobs I wanted done aren't done, work isn't done and the only outings i had were pointless dates with strange men.

Should have painted the bathroom and built a fish pond.

oh and room is still a mess. conservatory is still a mess. paperwork is still a mess. Am out tomorrow and Saturday.

Good things - my friends, some sorting painted hutch, I have relaxed (positive spin on being lazy, am typing this in bed!! )

    !!!!!!!
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Good for you buffy! As soon as the plumber has been and left me about £150 lighter (I am going to get him to do two other jobs that I am not strong enough to do - bleed my ancient radiators and change the flush system on the loo - so that will be at least an hour at £60 per half hour plus vat) THEN I shall...

REEEELAAAAAXXXXXXXXXX! It leaves me Friday to put things back in some kind of order, Saturday to possibly tame some of the temperate rainforest that passes for my garden and Sunday to sulk about going back to work.

Alec that sounds like an average day for me too! I seem to be so disaster prone and feel really helpless at the moment. It will pass, I too shall get over myself!

My advice clear the areas the plumbers going to need to go in and then shut all the other doors, note I didn't mention cleaning, just making it safe to walk through r work in and to stop the plumber going  and running away

The silver lining surely is you buy not putting the gas boiler to heat the water you have the money for the plumber

Morning everyone it is grey and very wet here, again.

Yesterday I managed lots of bits that just keep the house ticking over nicely.
DW unloaded, reloaded and set to run over night
    WM the same
Kitchen floor thoroughly swept and a quick sweep straight after dinner
    Hall swept
    Sundays laundry off the airers
    Clean clothes put away
Swimming bag packed (so its ready to just grab n go)
Household linen(tea towels, towels, bedding, cushion covers ) put away, some off this has piled up for a few months
    Washing on airers
    Cleaned the kitchen sink
Tidied the computer room pack to how we left it on Tuesday, didn't take much but I'm trying to keep on top off any area we have made in
    More admin
    recycling bin emptied
    porridge soaking

I'm not feeling motivated to do anything today, so far I have
    got out of bed
aired the bed (I do this everyday)
    eaten breakfast

    and that maybe it

My Mum rang earlier, my parents are sorting out their loft  some of the things in it I know for sure moved from their previous loft 25 years ago without being looked at. They plan in the future to only store suitcases (they go on lots of holidays) and Christmas decorations in the loft, I will be impressed if they manage it especially if they keep it up. I can't imagine every getting to a state where we didn't need to store things in the loft. They do have a garage I wonder if everything will just move to there :rotfl:

jpscloudI hope you don't have too wait long for the plumber, I useless at waiting for people to arrive I can't settle to anything.
