Gilly, did you want to go and lurk over on Flylady for a bit? Read the first post which explains it. Might help, might not.:D

why is when trying so hard to clear and declutter , all I end up doing is making more mess. It's nearly time for DH to arrive home and the house now looks worse than when he left this morning....he is never going to believ me when I say I have been clearing.....
  • Hello again... hadn`t finished..
BB- re keeping the loft empty - 10 years ago we had our loft insulation upgraded, which meant clearing the whole lot. Over 20 years` worth of `stuff` shoved up there and just forgotten. Most of it got chucked, as we reasoned that if we`d done without it that long we`d not miss it. The only thing I insisted on keeping was DS`s potty. Not that he needs it now as he`s 40!!! I`ve never put anything up there since, mainly because it`s so full of insulation stuff there`s hardly any room, and if ever the loft hatch has to be opened there are always bits that fall on the landing - yuck!
Laurel - love that article, thanks!
Gillybean, welcome back! What did you have? (Btw, whatever cleaning rota you have to work around your new baby, I found it less demanding cleaning around my DS 40 years ago than now!!)
Cat - focus on what you have managed to do, the rest will follow - eventually. Re the manky hob...at least you know what`s on yours! Mine is baaad...every time I get it clean-ish I think `I WILL keep on top of this`, but then I lapse, and think `I`ll wait till the next time something boils over, to soften it a bit..` after a while it seems to reach a sort of equilibrium where it doesn`t seem to get any worse though.
I`m so glad you`re finally getting your new washer/drier, after the last fiasco!
Viv, welcome aboard. At least you`ve got the CS stuff bagged ready for when the rain stops.
JPS - good idea getting the other jobs done at the same time. Glad you`re sorted!

    Messy status -
Yesterday after work I managed to get the 2 carpets out of caravan of Doom, managed to fit them into the car, and dropped them off for DD ready for her house-move (date still unknown). Haven`t tetris`d the caravan of Doom yet but there has to be more space in there now...
Put damp LR rugs (launderetted days ago!) out for a bit but not long enough...
Then I broke my alarm clock trying to put a new battery in, so had to go out & buy a new one. Local shops closed as it was Weds., so had to go into town, could have done without that clarting about! By the time I`d cooked & we`d eaten I was too tired to care, early night & up at dawn this am.
Now - LR rugs outside again. (sunny, might be ok by tonight)
Last night`s leftovers for supper. Did washing up this am before work. I just put one load of `smalls` in WM (I mean LOAD! as in backlog...)
And I`m going to IGNORE any mess indoors, go sit outside and IGNORE any mess there... I`m on a late shift tomorrow, and there`s a winebox with my name on it! I`m going to watch the second bee hotel (first one fully occupied by mason bees, second one harder to tell as the leafcutters don`t seem to stop up the ends of the tubes, but the last couple of times I`ve been out there in the evening I`ve seen plenty of coming and going, I`m a bit obsessed..very relaxing though. We reckon it`s probably about half occupied, if not more by now. My babies!)
Sorry if I`ve missed anyone...my head ids still on the ward! Wine & bee-watching is the only cure!

Viv, it's always the way, mess becomes piles (of things that previously weren't mess) becomes put away. The mess you have now is better than the mess you had before and tomorrow it won't be as messy.

Emm, the pie was a variation of a thanksgiving pie from the thrifty veggie mama blog. Nothing complex just green lentils and assorted veg with soy sauce and herbs but I just didn't put any love into it at first.

Frustratingly I have run out of masking tape but I have still done a bit of painting this afternoon so I only have a bit of window frame, door frame and two lengths of skirting board to do then the room is painted! I can't believe I've nearly done it. Can't wait to get everything back to normal now though. Normal mess is one thing, decorating mess is another!

    Congratulations Gilly.

Viv, I think nearly all of us on here have said that at one time or another! There's always a decluttering stage when you wish you hadn't flipping started because it looks so much worse than before! alec is right, it'll be better tomorrow :) Once things actually start going out the house it really makes a difference, hence why I love trips to the dump!

Emm enjoy your wine! If anyone deserves it it's you, you never seem to stop!!

jps glad all your plumbing woes are sorted - good thing you had that leak really!!

alec - you're so nearly there!!:T Very annoying about the masking tape though, just when you were on a roll!

Gilly I too want DETAILS - when you get a chance of course! I do like that bit at the beginning of Fly Lady which short_bird posted, good advice!

Just made tea for myself and DS, DDs out with their dad and grandparents. Made myself wholemeal pasta (yuk) with tomato and grated carrot sauce, same as the sausagemeat and carrot pasta I made last week but minus the sausage. It was vile this time :(. Think I overdid the balsamic and hugely underdid the cooking time, that'll serve me right for being greedy and impatient! It's now in the bin!!

Tonight I plan to do a little in my bedroom, and move the kitchen laundry mountain into there. I could say I might even do some ironing but that would be an outrageous lie :) I'm hoping that with the new washer dryer and it's reduced creasing option I might finally be able to become like Emm and not do ironing at all!!:j

Re form filling - I'm a bit weird with forms I think. I NEVER fill them in in order, from start to finish. Instead I go through them picking out the easiest bits and do them first, or if not the easiest bits, whichever bits I fancy doing at that time!:o Even the first bit - name, address, phone number etc - I don't do that in order! Very unmethodical, story of my life really!:D
  • Well I had a beautiful little girl, weighing 7lbs 15 3/4 ounces on 7th August, had 24 hours of normal labour and then little lady got stuck at the last push so ended up being taken to theatre for a section. Her name is Mia and is an absolute star

Oh Mia is a lovely name :)

Emm enjoy your bees! The trick is to see only the lovely things in your garden... the wine should help with that!

Well plumbing woes are back to haunt me... the loo pipe is leaking a bit after the flush system was changed. I think he may have been expecting that as he checked twice for it before he left. The company said he'd be popping back this evening (sigh - I just wanted to slob out without being seen!)

Now, I really, really need tomorrow to be a full day at home without distractions so I can get things back in order. What's the betting something will crop up? :p
