Morning all
If you feel like procrastinating today, then this article made me laugh

We are not alone!!!:rotfl:import this0 -
Thanks BaileysBabe... I want him to check the radiators as they are ancient and I can't bleed them myself - they have a funny screw at the back which I can't work. Also need to get him to sort the loo flush out, so he will be going just about everywhere for the radiators (the loo was clean anyway).
Have done a panic clean, it wasn't as bad as I feared because I gutted the kitchen last year. The dust bunnies on the stairs took some beating but I have them contained now!
Where the piles of stuff are due to decorating, they can stay - it's a good enough excuse I reckon!
Now just have to wait... I would really like a nap now having been up since 3am but plumber can be anytime up to 5pm... sigh.
Re. the silver lining... hadn't thought of it that way! The only thing is that I overused electricity to get washing dry in the rotton weather, thinking I had saved the money on gas... oh well.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

JPS-have you pierced the ceiling with a knitting needle or skewer (to let the water drip out faster)? Some say it helps reduce the risk of the ceiling bowing, some say it doesn't. But I always have, and I've been OK...well...apart from the time it didn't drip at all and I found out about the broken tile when a chunk of the ceiling fell down...:oimport this0

Good idea laurel - I don't think that will help me now though, as the panel has cracked and bowed a bit already. It was already a bit cracked from a flood that the previous owner had over fifteen years ago, so no great stress over it really.
Plumber has been over an hour already! But at least the jobs that desperately needed doing for years are now getting done. He's a nice bloke and he isn't going slow, as I'm upstairs doing decorating as well.
I'll have to make more economies on groceries for a while, but I am glad this is getting done.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Hello everyone, long time no 'see'
Thought its about time I came back and got my bum in gear again.
I've been looking for some kind of household cleaning rota type thing that can be worked around having a newborn, does anyone know if one exists?0 -
congratulations Gillybean!! :j If I missed you posting about the birth of your new baby, I'm very sorry!
jps, glad you're getting things sorted out.
BB, good work!!:T
laurel that made me laugh. I was particularly taken with the Christmas tree one - I don't feel half so bad now about not taking the Christmas cards down until February!:D
DDs dad arrived this morning, DD1's half of living room still a tip but not my problem, my bedroom - well, it's sort of getting there - still a tip but I can see the wood for the trees now, enough to motivate me to get it done properly over the next week or so I think. Kitchen/bathroom/hall reasonably presentable apart from the laundry mountain in the kitchen. And the manky microwave. And hob. And ice-bound freezer. Ah, it all sounded so good until I started to think about it! I did try to clean the hob yesterday with biological washing powder and hot water. Lesson learned - when chip pan overflows (:o) clean it up as soon as it's safe to do so. Do not leave until there is half an inch of accumulated congealed muck. This will not shift, at least, not without MAJOR effort.
New washer dryer coming tomorrow - from C*met, no problems with them delivering!
Little done today apart from the dishes, stayed up watching tennis till stupid o'clock last night, got DD1 to sleep in my room (cue slamming of doors and MUCH moaning - you'd think she'd be happy to have a proper bed for once but noooooo!)0 -
You didn't miss it, I haven't had chance to come on lol
Thank you though -:)0 -
The fridge has been done and now time for the cupboards......wanted to put the charity shop stuff I have collected together in the car but the heavens have opened and I don't intend to get soaked......0

Great to see you again Gilly! Congratulations and welcome to the world mini Gilly!
Hi Viv, you're unlucky there with the rain, we have a glorious day here for a change.
Must attempt to put stuff away now, although very tempted to have a nap. Plumber was a really good guy, charged me for half an hour less than he should have and fixed all my problems.
I now have a loo that flushes without having to pump the handle like fury and the leaky thingy in the loft no longer leaks. The radiators are sorted and I'm glad that's done before winter. I must sort out some window quilts this year as well.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Hello again Messies! Managed to get away on time after a v. hectic early shift today.
Now I`ll try to catch up...
BB - well done, you`ve done loads (& I`ve done nearly nowt!)
Wilf - welcome back, you`ve been busy there!
FW - hope you enjoy the training day, I`m sure you will.
GR - good luck with the job applications. I SO hate form`filling when it`s about me (though the amount of this that`s about patients is just par for the course at work!) maybe that`s why I`ve stayed in the one place so long! (and because I love it really.. except for all the paperwork we have now.)
Laurel, good luck to your DD for Friday. I`ve no experience of the theory test, but it doesn`t sound good!
JPS - you`re so right about the Blessing counting. ((HUGS)) for your plumbing troubles, I do so HATE it when there`s stuff like that needing to call in a plumber or electrician, I go into a brief panic mode too. My last ones were blocked drains, and a faulty gas meter, both got quickly sorted but I got into a flap arranging things. It`s all left to me now by OH & DS. My late Hubby used to always deal with these things, and very calmly, so why can`t I? Just get it sorted asap anyway, and whatever the messy status - they will have seen worse!
Alec Eiffel - what sort of pie was it?
Buffy - re the carp summer - I didn`t even appreciate the olympics!! (sorry!) All it meant here was that there was nothing else on telly! Surely there`s enough wetness around without your planned fish pond?! Relax, that`s good!
Posting now in case I lose this post...0
