Prescription for jps - you've worked hard for most of the holiday so you've earned a bit of time off now. Time to put your feet up until term starts. That's the trouble with teachers I reckon... you get so much time off work that you feel obliged to "do something" with it, and you forget that you're actually entitled to a couple of weeks of holiday doing nothing each year too. If memory serves, half term is usually about 8 weeks away isn't it? How about you break down what needs to be done to prep the spare room of doom into 8 chunks and do a bit each week until half term. And then blitz the decorating in one quick hit and then the whole thing is finished
Massively impressed that you've managed to do bedroom and boxroom in a single summer holiday though. My parents were both teachers and it generally took the full academic year to get a single room done. Decorating their house was a bit like painting the forth bridge :rotfl:
Spent the weekend with OH at the friend's house he's currently lodging in. Unusually for me, probably as a result of this thread, I couldn't help noticing all the bits of muck and grime tucked away in an immaculately tidy house. And my reaction? "thank god its not just me - these people are normal too"Although OH has asked me to bring the vacuum cleaner with me next week as his host has lent his to his g/f atm! Of course that means that there has been no demessying chez sonastin this weekend but at least it hasn't gotten any worse.

Hi folks!
I`ve only got the one day off today but at least the marathon stretch is over! Was wide awake early today (? habit now!) but I so wanted a lie-in! Those who can just sleep when they need to are so lucky, those with disrupted sleep patterns here have all my sympathy!
FA#1 - that is BRILLIANT! You`ve certainly put your time & efforts to good use, you must be SO chuffed! Well done youxx
JPS - cheer up hun, you have achieved loads, but I`m thinking maybe you had set yourself a bit too much to do - I always do that too, before a bit of time off. Be a bit gentler on yourself, think `desiderata`! And you`re right, the lack of sunshine has a lot to answer for, but I keep hoping for more...
Alec E - I`m glad that visit went ok. Your bunny home sounds lovely!
GR - I use a rubber broom as well, but nowhere near as often as you do! Lovely footage of your pets, thanks. We used to have a (male!) dog & kitten that behaved like that - then when the dog was very old & the kitten grown up the roles reversed.
Buffy- hope you feel better & enjoyed the cinema.
HUGS(()) to all & thanks for last few days posts if I`ve not mentioned them.
Messy status -
Grim again. I`ve been busy since early, LR rugs shaken & dumped at launderette, then out shopping & a few errands, swept LR and put shopping away. Off now to collect rugs to hang outside.

I read the last few pages of this thread last night, and it totally inspired me! I was listing things on ebay, and while the pictures were uploading I actually put away some washing, and tidied up the top of my chest of drawers. Usually I just waste time online! And then so far today (it's my day off) I've done two loads of washing, cleaned the bathroom, tidied the living room and sorted out some more ebay stuff. I feel quite proud! So thanks0

hi lucy, welcome to the messies! Glad you've been inspired!:T:TI'm going to be inspired by you now - got a day and half to get this pigsty semi-presentable, and have done er, nothing. So I'm going to go and clean my bathroom!
Emm poor you! I wish you were able to relax on your day offWhen do you next get two days in a row? x

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I will have a bit of that pls... Sleep apnea, on my second CPAP machine, 3rd mask and still feel like... most of the time (yawnnn)0 -
Buffy - our posts must`ve crossed. Sounds like you had fun!
Sonastin - You`ve been asked to bring the vacuum cleaner next week...hope it`s not you who`s expected to use it!
Lucy L - well done you! A bit of inspiration goes a long way...
Cat - good luck with your de-messying deadline! I don`t get TWO days off together till 6th/7th September! But I do get a week off later in Sept. I`ll just have to plod on till then, hoping for a bit of late summer sunshine....
LR rugs are on the line outside, clean ones down & looking better already!
Next `to do`-
hang towels out of WM,
enter Caravan of Doom to refill birdfeeder & dogfood containers in kitchen,
prep for green thai curry tonight
try to squeeze some YS chicken breasts into Freezer of Doom,
Then I`ll take another break & maybe play with my New Toy...if there`s any more flies by then...
(Cat - this is more fun than shredding!) I bought a fly-zapper from poundland, it`s like a tennis racquet with batteries in, you just stand there and wave it around till you can`t see any more flies! OH thinks it is wonderful because his head hasn`t come into contact with it (yet!) and he was getting a bit fed up of getting caught on the fly-papers!0 -
Hi all
Been away for a few days visiting family which was very nice but we spent a fortune which we dont really have. Our garden is like a jungle and todays plan was to sort it out. Unfortunately the dog was not keen on the idea of me leaving him in the house while I went out the front and has been driving DS2 mad whining so I had to come in. I did manage to do a quick plough through the weeds and cut the grass so thats something. I am kind of hoping that if I leave the back lawn OH might help me with it later.
I am now half-heartedly sorting out some bits of paper but its more fun reading stuff on here!
Cat, glad you are getting on well with your psychologist, it all sounds really positive and you have been lucky to get someone so understanding.
Jps, take care, maybe as Sonastin says you are a bit run down?
Gettingready, you are so brave posting your photos and I can assure you my floors suffer from paw prints and dog hairs most of the time. Its an ongoing battle.
Looks like its going to pour down - might get the washing in. DS1 is out somewhere on his bike and I could just do with him to pop home so I know he is OK!
Right, on with this paperwork ...0 -
Hello Messies.
Jps, just try and take things easy for what's left of the hols, huh? You've done so well - just try and stand back and see how much you've achieved. <Hugs> just because you're feeling fragile.
Welcome, Lucy L (my girls loved the Munch Bunch books many years ago), and I'm so pleased the thread has inspired you.
Sonastin, as Emms says, hope you're not expected to clean up the palce when you visit!
Emms, we do miss you. It's awful that you don't get two days off together for so long, and you must feel so often that things at home are getting out of control. Dreadful trying to balance out rest with de-messying.The zapper sounds like fun!
YL, gardens have a habit of growing as soon as your back's turned, don't they? Shame your dog can't manage without you for a little while, without whining.
Buffy, glad you had a good time, plus some!
Well done, FA, for all you raised! :T
Have done very little today, as I was expecting a call from DD2, who has a day off work today, but had several places to go - doc, dentist and bank. I did one WM load, which has mostly dried, and had my hair cut. That's about it, really.0 -

Nah.. just needed a kick in the backside - and it worked
Did clean that fridge today as went shopping so had to - uffff Good that the freezer is frost free
Made soup, from scratch of course, 5 nice size portions.
Sorted the shopping, into portions, fridge/freezer so all lasts nicely.
Just about to vacuum (floors terrible) and mop and then will be off to bed for an early night - kind of.
Took a day off today to organise the shopping but back to work tomorrow...
How is everyone else doing?0 -
Emm I love the sound of that electrified tennis racquet! I want one now
Welcome Lucy, glad you are getting in demessy mode!
Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone. I feel a bit better tonight, but of course my sleep pattern and energy levels are a bit disrupted. Never mind, if you're going to do that it might as well be when you're on holiday, right?
Although feeling very fatigued I have managed to do a fair bit... I picked up prescriptions, and found a small rattan shelf stack that matches the unit thing I painted, for a fiver in the CS. It will be useful in the boxroom so I'm going to paint that soon as well.
I also picked up a few weeks' supply of cat litter - even the so-called lightweight stuff is so heavy that I usually don't want to get it when I do a quick run to the supermarket.
Tomorrow I have to MOT the car, so it will be another day of not getting much done in the house but by the end of Thursday I hope to have some kind of order restored.
Ok, I'm off to start upstairs again. Funny how I feel like doing this stuff in the evenings at the moment, that's not like me at all - usually I like to get things done early and then collapse at night.
Hope everyone is well in messyland... see you in a bit!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
