The rain is here - it's supposed to be very heavy today  Actually I quite like it, because it's that warm summer rain with a thundery smell. And it means I will have to stay indoors rather than being tempted to go out and do the garden instead!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Do it. Get the kitchen done and give yourself a set amount of time before you start another project. It will do you good! Sorry to hear about the trials with your daughter but wonderful news about the job. I am sticking my head in the sand a bit with regards DS1 and his education. I know Year 9 is a really important year and there are going be some tough decisions to be made but where do you start when he has hardly done any schooling for 3 years. The medical psychologist keeps telling us that some kids do better once they get to 16+ and they can make their own decisions. Cant help feeling it wont be as simple as that - but still.
FW - I feel your pain with the caravan. We have hardly been camping at all this year because other things have got in the way. I guess selling it and getting the cash makes sense though.
Going out this afternoon, meeting my parents for a long walk. Off to grab some lunch then enjoy the warm weather while it lasts. Actually its meant to pour down later but who cares. Have a good afternoon everyone x0 -
Hi Messies.
I think in certain cases I agree with Cat & Old Tractor about getting RID asap rather than taking ages sorting stuff you need to shift. Normally, I`m so meticulous about recycling that even an empty pack of cigarette papers (DS) or a banana peel (DGD) gets fished out of the kitchen bin to get recycled in the right bin/bag. Last time I took stuff to the skips at local amenity site, I noticed how the site attendants were actually sorting through the `general` skips and fishing items out to be recycled. So...if these chaps are paid to do it, and there`s a need for speedy riddance - no harm done!
JPS - well done on your room de-cluttering. Tidiness will surely follow!
Bearcub - My computer area is bad, everything filed under `m` for miscelaneous, then there`s a panic when I need something! Glad you found your papers in the end.
FW- shame about the caravan, but better to sell it now when you`re not using it. Ours has been stood too long to move, so now it`s just like a decent storage area, but then I don`t have a barn and useful outbuildings!
YL, I`m just plodding through fuddle too. ((HUGS))
Laurel - well done on your kitchen efforts, congratulations on your new contract & a decent pay at last - but most of all, how brilliant it is that you are able and willing to help your daughter study - and that she is willing to accept it.
Cat - don`t say things like that!! `I`ve been the worst role model` - you have a lot more common sense than many a mother, you prioritise your wishes for them as being `happy & fulfilled`, and despite your recent upsets with your daughters you are able to re-group and re-build. That makes you a pretty sound mum in my view!
Messy-wise -
I`ve done 2 wm loads, hung indoors. Long phone chat with DD (since starting this post) re-filled birdfeeders, and wiped around kitchen. I`m on another early tomorrow so early night & conserve energy...
Later `must do` stuff includes bins out for morning, and Henry & tidy LR before DS gets home or I`ll have NO chance!
Have a good Sunday, all!
ps - Flypaper has caught loads overnight - it works well when OH isn`t being drawn to it!0 -
Thanks Emm! I've almost conquered the box room carp now - I will probably run out of steam pretty soon so hopefully will start on getting it cleaned, sugar soap the paintwork, emulsion the walls and repainted tomorrow.
I have to go out tomorrow for some bits and pieces, though, and I always find it hard to get in the swing of major cleaning/redecoration when I don't get up and get straight at it somehow.
Never mind, as long as I've made real progress by Friday I will be happy.
Making MSE paella tonight... value savoury rice (27p a packet!), chicken, pepperami slices, peas and prawns. Must get a bit more done in the boxroom of doom first though!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

That sounds nice JP. I will have to try that because I really like the value savoury rice.0

Afternoon Messies, from a very hot island, although it's got very windy now.
Laurel, good luck with helping your DD, and I hope, in some way you'll both enjoy working together. Perhaps now that the others have moved away from the school, she'll concentrate better on the job in hand. I'm really glad thsoe days are over for our DDs, and their studying is now up to them, as they're paying for it!Great news about your job contract - they obviously value you.
:T Good news abut the tiling - what a luvverly dad!
Yes, do call in occasionally, footymadgal, then maybe we can give you a push.
YL, I can understand your worries about your DD1. Does he have any particular subject/s he's interested in, or is he too tired or down most of the time to care? If he has, maybe he/you can concentrate on those plus maths and English. Hope you enjoyed your walk.
Cat, I guess, if you have a serious hoarding 'thing', then just getting rid of stuff, in any way, has got to be a step in the right direction.
Don't totally wipe uyourself out in the Room of Doom, will you, jps? Although ..... good as extra exercise, maybe?
Day of Rest, so not much done. I hasten to add, the D of R is for no reason other than that I like to have a day of doing not very much. Well, not very much less than not very much is .... nothing, really! :rotfl: I have dusted the LR, including feather dusting away the spiders webs (they'll be back tomorrow), and giving the skirting board s a quick wipe. Mum's coming over for dinner this evening, and she made it clear this morning that she really, really doesn't like spiders or their webs. Sorry, spiders!0 -
Thanks for your support, everybody
YL-you know what? The people at my school who have done really impressive things are not the ones who went through the academic sausage machine in the normal way, but those who went back to education when they were ready, and fully committed in a way that 18 year olds rarely are. Your son will have lots of options xximport this0 -
Morning Messies! I`m off out in a min. I hope you`ll all have a happy and productive day whatever you`re doing. Let`s just get Monday out of the way, eh?0

I was so pleased with myself yesterday. I achieved: washing, ironing, mopped the kitchen floor, washed my car, put new shower curtain up (OH cleaned the bathroom
), cooked bran loaf, quick hoover of bedrooms, did several loads of washing up, cleaned water filter jug and kitchen drainer and removed tea stains from mugs. Also put last few things away that I'd taken with me on holiday taken at beginning of August.
Last night put a load of towels in wm and I will put them on line before I go to work today. Might do a bit of paperwork sorting tonight. Nothing much will get done on Tuesday as I'm out straight from work.0 -
Good morning. The holiday is officially over now and so for the first time in nearly 3 weeks here I am on my own. As we tend to do at the end of the holidays we have been planning for the next phase so today I am full of plans and with ideas flying all over. So I'm having a sit and a think about my next move rather than doing what I'd usually do which is start a bit of everything and finish none of it.
Today I want to make some bread, lift weights, dust the living room, deep clean at least the base units in the kitchen and change the sheets. That still leaves a ton of time for everything else doesn't it.
Have a good day.0
