Unfortunately, I am not overreacting to a single D. The other young people with her grades have been thrown out of school. Thrown out. Not even allowed to resit Year 12. All that saved her was that she opted for General Studies as an extra (as a means of avoiding PE). And she did get a B in that...
Sorry if I sound a bit ranty. I'm trying so hard to be positive for her. But to get onto a course she wants, she has pretty much to resit the whole of this year (improving by an average of three grades per subject), while keeping up with Year 13. It's a tall order given she hasn't managed to keep up with Year 12 when she only had that to do. And, yes, she has every possible physical and moral support, and every coursebook/revision guide money can buy.
Anyway...got to keep smiling...
*de lurking* Does your DD really want to do Alevels and go onto Higher Ed? Is it what she needs for her chosen career path? I only ask as my DD1 has just graduated with an excellent degree and cannot find work in her chosen field without now doing further study ( Masters Degree) She cannot find work in any closely related field either despite being told she has 'transferable skills' and has done all the employability courses that where offered at her university. She changed her ideas about what she wanted to do when she was persuaded by school and an inept careers advisor to follow an academic route - bright child with stellar GCSE results = good stats for school = more good results for school at A level. So with good Alevels she went to university and had a fab time and We supported her in her decision - emotionally practically and financially. She is now completely disillusioned with the whole thing and is going back to college following a more practical apprenticeship type course with work experience built in.........which is what she wanted to do in the first placeBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Morning messies, I am still clearing out carp from the spare room of doom, so painting did not commence yesterday and probably won't today, but we'll see! I am just about to go and start again.
When I've got rid of all the course paperwork it should be plain sailing - I just have to go through it to make sure anything sensitive in admin terms is shredded and not put in the recycling. Then it's just heaps of bed linen, rugs, duvets and clothes to sort!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

I start my new exercise regime today, after I've procrastinated for a little longer! Today I finally got round to framing the pictures I bought frames for last week. When they'll make it up onto the walls is another question though. The house is looking surprisingly good considering it's been holiday time for the past 2 weeks. We've brought a fair bit of stuff into the house, especially clothing and books but I think everything has a home so not too bad.
Have a good weekend everyoen.0 -
Keep up the good work alec! I reckon my demessying is good exercise - I'm certainly working up a sweat!
The first of four giant rag rugs that I use for carpeting upstairs is soaking in the bath! I haven't washed them for ages, because it always seems such a faff. Once they're in the bath though, it's pretty easy.
Just takes a few days to dry them, as they're too heavy to go on a washing line and even to go on clothes horses until they're nearly dry. They just have to drain and dry over the bath as much as possible, then I put them next to a radiator to air.
Back to sorting carp! Have a great Saturday everyone.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Hi messies
Laurel - sorry to hear your DD's newsThat school sounds harsh! Is a D a pass at AS level?? It's not for Scottish Highers, which are generally regarded as a little harder than AS levels. I definitely trace my real descent into depression and making bad life choices to my Higher results, BBBD which doesn't sound bad but I was expected to get AAAC (I dropped Chemistry halfway through the year). She sounds a lot more sensible than me though, and I'm sure she'll make the most of Upper Sixth or whatever it is called now she's had a wake up call. And if she doesn't, it's not the end of the world. I really hope she's ok (((Hugs))). My DDs both left after Intermediate 2 (harder than GCSE - I know, I'm cheerleading for Scottish education lol) despite getting mostly As. I was devastated when DD1 left, calmer when DD2 did it as I was expecting it. I soon realised I had been wanting them to follow the paths I wish I'd followed at that age, big mistake! Now they're BOTH off to college to do vocational courses in the next 10 days and I couldn't be happier that DD1 especially is doing something!
tata, fingers crossed for good news!
jps very well done decluttering that coursework!!:T
Not much demessying to report. Been doing some dishes, and cooked a proper meal last night, but that's about it.

eta just spilt half a box of bran flakes on the kitchen floor *sigh*. On the upside, it forced me to sweep the floor0 -
Cat, I feel totally wiped out today, as I've not slept well for the last 4 nights. I don't function well without a decent amount of sleep, and I find it impossible to sleep during the day, unless I'm ill.
M-O-T-I-V-A-T-I-O-N >>>>>>>> Buffy!
Well done for the sorting, jps :T. Cotton items are lovely, but such a pain to dry, aren't they?
Good luck with the exercise plans, alec eiffel. Don't leave it too long, though, huh?
Our DD2 got ABB, and was expected by her college tutors to go to uni, either to do psychology or English. She reckoned that she'd only be able to teach with a degree in English, so put the decision off for a year. As it was, depression caught up with her and, when she started to pick up, she went into the pub trade, then hotel work, then back to managing pubs. As a friend of mine said, even pubs need intelligent people. Now, she's working at a conference centre, where all the skills she learned in the pubs and hotel are being used, plus some she's learned whilst there. She loves it! I firmly believe that these things happen for a reason.
Today, I've done some gardening, picked fruit, and have part dusted our bedroom.0 -
Bearcub - DD1 is doing Event Management at college, it looks really interesting and hopefully she'll pick up some of the skills your DD2 has! They have to do quite a bit of "work" though, during the first block she'll be working in the cafeteria 4 mornings a week, this will be quite a culture shock:D0

Hi Messies. Just a quick catch-up again.
I`ve just been shopping & put stuff away. Too wellied to think straight, probably forgot stuff I wanted but past caring!! I`ve bought some Aldi `red thunder` drink...sipping a can as I type. Doesn`t say it contains motivation, but I`m desperate. Will tell you if it`s worked...
Re exams AND interviews:
Neither is really a clear way to judge candidates` abilities or suitability for a course or a job. OK, there has to be some kind of `sifting` system, and despite being flawed ( as evidenced by the number of Success Stories that started out as failures, AND the number of `square pegs in round holes`!) these are the systems we seem to be stuck with. I`m just sorry for the candidates (and their folks) who are stressed & distressed, and all I can say is hang in there - if it`s meant to be then it will be - eventually.
Messy-wise...
I`ve taken down the failed sticky fly-pads and put up a good old-fashioned fly-paper.
Can anyone explain WHY OH`s head is more attracted to it than the flies are???
I have removed a large congregation of snails from my 2 tubs of runner bean plants.
Cooked a leg of lamb last night, so just veg & gravy to do with it tonight.
Kitchen - twenty minutes in there will suffice when I eventually get going.
LR - flat surfaces cluttered, floor could do with a Henrying as the dust buffaloes are forming herds in all corners....
Laundry - I`ve a stack of uniforms that need doing, plus at least another load - it would help if I wasn`t such a messy eater, I seem to miss my mouth at least once every meal!
Bedroom - would be a lot tidier if I sorted stuff for washing...
Well, I`ve finished the second can of `red thunder`, (I was thirsty) and nothing`s happening. It`s sunny outside, and I even feel too CBA to go and sit in the garden!
The lavender bed survived the torrential rain the other day, and as for the nasturtiums, they are like triffids now! I WILL go outside and look at them again...
As for the messy stuff - buggritt!
Hope you`re all having a reasonable Saturdayxx0
