Ahhhhh.. Just home from my interview, I'm convinced it went badly however I don't know.. They said I would hear back next week so I'm just going to have to wait. I could see the list and by the looks of it there weren't many applicants for the roles.. Bums!

    Onwards and upwards...

Fingers crossed tata... I hate the waiting part!

Doing quite well in demessying spare room today - 2 bin bags of rubbish, one CS, one give away to friends/colleagues :T

I agree with everyone else about the exams. I was expected to hit all the high notes when I did my A levels at school and I didn't. I failed in an extreme and ridiculous way. Thought it was bad for about 5 hours then went and did something else. Went back to do A levels at college later on, passed, went to a very good university and all was well. School is so overrated, we're lead to think it's the be all and end all when it's not, it's just a means to an end and it's not the only time we get to pass exams to get to where we want to go. Sometimes not doing so well is the best thing that can happen.

Well done, jps, for the weight loss! :T

Did the job seem right, Tata? Would you take it if offered?

Quite, alec e. Our DD1 left school after her GCSEs, having been bullied for a lot of her time there, and went to FE college. It increased her confidence no end, then she started temping until she got a job - at a uni! DD2 left school after her GCSEs because she'd outgrown her friends, and did her A levels at a different FE college. Because she was ill, she never got to uni. Now, DD1 has just one more course to go with the OU to get her degree, and DD2 is on her first 'proper' course with the OU. DD1 is 32, DD2 is 28, and both are pretty settled into work now. DD2 said that schools only see most of their pupils as statistics anyway, unless you're spectacularly clever, or a potential criminal!

I've cleared out load of old course files... whew. I have no idea why I kept them for so long, I will never need them again. The recycling bin is nearly full just of paper from them!

I'm a bit shattered now but want to carry on - just having a coffee break.

Calluna, nope, the chimney breast isn't anywhere near our bedroom. Going to have to get a dehumidifier I thinks!

Other thing to check is any blocked downpipes/gutters on outside which means water runs down wall not gutter, but obviuosly unless you get up a ladder it will mean standing outside evertime it really tips it down and watching for overflows :rotfl:
Or any waterpipes inside the walls (and if you have an old house these might not be on any survey etc) try to increase the ventilation anyway if possible
That's enough building pathology from me ..

    Thanks, everybody.

Unfortunately, I am not overreacting to a single D :( . The other young people with her grades have been thrown out of school. Thrown out. Not even allowed to resit Year 12. All that saved her was that she opted for General Studies as an extra (as a means of avoiding PE). And she did get a B in that...

Sorry if I sound a bit ranty. I'm trying so hard to be positive for her. But to get onto a course she wants, she has pretty much to resit the whole of this year (improving by an average of three grades per subject), while keeping up with Year 13. It's a tall order given she hasn't managed to keep up with Year 12 when she only had that to do. And, yes, she has every possible physical and moral support, and every coursebook/revision guide money can buy.

    Anyway...got to keep smiling...

    Morning Messies.

Laurel, that is absolutely appalling! Is it a private school? Had your DD and the others been warned that this might happen? If not, then they have every right to make a HUGE fuss, especially as councils are struggling to get young people into their chosen schools in the first place. I think your last comment about your D's grades is very telling about the school. The school is being 'kind' enough to keep her on just because she got a B in General Studies. Sorry, but General Studies is a nothing subject; universities think it's laughable, and often turn down potential students if they've chosen that. If the school is keeping your D on just because of that, then, quite frankly, she'd be better off elsewhere. Sorry, but that's the truth of the matter.

Sadly, the relatively modern concept of taking AS levels then A-levels has caused a lot of problems, because they think they can cruise from GCSEs, where you're told what to remember. These days, GCSEs are so simple to get decent grades in, that A-levels, where you have to think for yourself a little more, come a huge shock. They do start to prepare you for uni, though. Your D may well find it tough for a while, but if she's wants it badly enough, this disappointment will do more good than you can imagine atm. <hugs> I worked in secondary education, and my DD2 works in a uni, in case you wonder.
