  • Hi Messies!
A belated welcome to Procrastinator. This may sound silly, but - try to enjoy your holiday preparations, they might be less stressy then.
Buffy - how did the date go?
Laurel - Fair do`s, you made a start in the kitchen AND got to the party!
Footymadgal & Dinx - welcome back, & well done on the de-messying.
Bearcub - hope today`s service goes well - I`m sure it will!
Re chainsaws/power tools etc...not a gender thing, but generally not my thing. I feel I can handle an axe or a hammer, but not something that might run away with me!!
Re hairy pets - I had a friend many years ago who ran a kennels. One day she remarked that the shedding was getting out of hand, and that she`d have to get the flame-thower out! (we were at a dog-rescue fundraiser coffee am, I spilt my coffee!)
She explained that she`d use it on the pens, not the actual dogs..
Re chenille throws - you have my sympathy JPS. I had a couple of burnt orange ones ages ago, they did the same thing. Huge nasty mess! Never again!

Messy status - heavy rain this am, drying now but ground still wet, so don`t feel `out-doorsy` yet.
Indoors - just a quick wipe & tidy in the kitchen, last night`s curry dishes washed.
Might do a couple of 10-minute potters upstairs & maybe one in caravan of doom later. I`m feeling a bit low as I`m back to work in the morning & the rota is SO carp for foreseeable future..

    Have a nice Sunday Messies.xx
ps - re the `thanks` thing - I generally use it to acknowledge that I`ve read a post too, I find it`s a good way for me to keep up and as I generally enjoy all the posts here I think it`s appropriate. I can`t imagine anyone on here taking offence if I missed one though, we`re Messies, not Petties!!
  • Good afternoon!

I've just ironed all the washing i got dry yesterday, have another couple of loads on the line now as it's supposed to start raining again tomorrow! We've sheeted the silage, so that's the feed for the cows over winter all done, it's a great feeling and mr farmer and my dad are both smiling today as that's one of the biggest stresses of the year out of the way.

I'm just doing some paperwork now and then i'm going to sew for half an hour. The girls are going away with my mum for 2 nights on Tuesday so i'll have to pack their bags tomorrow. I'm planning on doing loads of de-messying while they are away......:rotfl:

    Take care all,

    Jx
    It's a farmers life for me......:j

    Afternoon Messies.

Jps, you do make me :rotfl:Obviously a bit of walking nightmare today, so don't you dare touch that chainsaw! ;) How horrible to have all that green gunge, as if a WM flood isn't bad enough.

Footymadgal, it strikes me that doing the washing, cleaning the bathroom and making a trifle IS making progress - don't knock it. :)

Emms, you said recently that the new rota wasn't good, but I hope you get some really lovley patients and some 'miracle mending' to make up for it.

Snookey, have you found out yet what was going on in your neighbourhood?

FW, lots of cutting going on here, too - silage, haylage, hay and barley. The rapeseed was done first, some weeks ago, and the beans and wheat yet to go. It's so wonderful that the ggod weather, in most places, has come at the best time. Let's hope it's good for the rest, too. I hope you enjoy your two days of peace - well, relative, anyway.

The service went very well, with everyone just getting up and doing their bit without me asking. :):)

Started very grey here, but it's now sunny and breezy. I have no intention of doing any de-messing today, except wiping down the work surfaces. I will, though, go and pick some fruit. :)

 Luckily it's rained me off today so chainsaw massacre averted!

Possibly just as well, jps. ;)

I've been doing a bit of de-messing in the garden, and then got caught up in watching the women's pentathlon show jumping. Oh dear, I thought these young women were supposed to have some capability at jumping before they took part. Apart from half a dozen or so, I thought "poor horse".
  • Bearcub - I`m so glad it went well, I`m sure it was lovely.
FW- It must be great to have the cows` feed sorted for winter AND the menfolk smiling. Well done all!
JPS - OH was reading over my shoulder earlier, and then went & sharpened the axe & cut up some kindling (leftover bits of pallet from the lavender box). He was probably getting worried in case I did it!
I haven`t done much, just a quick LR tidy and a bit of pottering in caravan of doom. My DD says it`s like a supermarket! Handy storage, but it gets chaotic at times.
I keep sacks of birdfood & dogfood there, have refilled all the feeders, plus the indoor containers refilled. Moved some stuff around and did a bit of a stocktake.
Found some sticky fly-trap pads, so put a couple up ....score so far Flies nil, OH 4 times!!!

Not sure what I've done today, though I spent a couple of hours shopping for tiles.

And after all that effort, the winner is...bumpy whites :rotfl:

I've had a long, hard look at the kitchen, and realised that raising that worktop would involve moving two thirds of the kitchen units by the time I got everything else back into line .

No. Just...no. For that much work, I'd want a new kitchen. I sort of could afford a new kitchen now, but I'd rather save up for longer than spend a lot of money on something not quite right. And if I were gutting the kitchen, I'd start at the beginning of the holidays, not halfway through!

So the plan is to knock off all the tiles, make good the walls and replace the splashbacks/windowsills only with some neat, bright tiles that are easy to cut and lay and that I won't mind knocking off again in a couple of years. All useful learning, because I've repaired tiling before, but this is the first time I've started from scratch.

(I spent a good couple of hours this morning not managing to scrape off all the adhesive from the tiles I levered off yesterday, but I'll keep at it. If it's truly un DIY-able, I'll get in a plasterer, but that'll take a week or two to organise and a week to dry and really I'd like to crack on and finish.)

Right. Back to the chisel and hammer. I deserve a fun bit :D

:rotfl: I managed to keep my hands off anything delicate or expensive for the rest of the day!

Me too, I doubt the wisdom of making the pentathletes ride one they haven't even sat on before. Those were all very highly tuned animals and it must have been very confusing for them to have an unfamiliar rider aboard in that setting, however competent they may be.

I think it would be much better to get the riders to do a very simple dressage test, not as exciting for the crowd (but then how boring is watching someone shoot a laser pistol?) but far calmer and in my view a better test of a rider's ability to settle and get a tune out of a horse. Kinder on their legs too (the horses I mean :rotfl:)

OK, I have some sweeties and pistachio nuts and coffee, and am settling myself in front of the TV for the closing ceremony... have a lovely evening all!

Edit: Good on you laurel! I am going to start painting upstairs this week, hopefully. You've inspired me!

    My day got better...

    The phone went...why wasn't I at my nephew's 18th birthday party?

Er..because I honestly believed the party was tomorrow...:o

So...flew out, stopping only to buy a very non-MSE bottle of I-owe-you-an-apology champagne. Arrived a deeply [STRIKE]impolite[/STRIKE] fashionable two hours late, to discover that champagne really can buy me out of any bother with my sister. :p

And, after a really lovely afternoon with family, I'm just home.

I guess the rest of the tiles will have to wait.:rotfl:

that is SO what I would do!

I have decided to paint my room. Nothing fancy, in fact I am painting it white. EVERYTHING! walls, celling, shelves, chest of drawers, hutch(!) wardrobe.

In light of this decision I am obviously going to have chuck stuff either in the bin or to the charity shop.

So that is the plan for this week. I am just going to have my tea but will work a more detailed approach. End of the Olympics, a new start for me!
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Brilliant Buffy! I am doing the white thing too with my colour scheme - you can't argue with white, can you? My adventures with colour have always been a bit dodgy so I'm going for simplicity this time.
